Japan: 9.2 Earthquake Scenario in Real Time (Nankai)
- Here's a hypothetical scenario simulation of a magnitude 9.2 earthquake on the Nankai Subduction Zone in Japan.
----------------
These simulations along with my piano music (Spotify/RUclips: @pardonmypiano) are part of my lifelong project called "In Terra Pax" that aims to bring financial and emotional support to victims affected by earthquakes around the world.
------------------------
I hope that my simulations will educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards and create more curiosity about Earth Science in general. I do also hope that my videos will inspire a future generation of amazing architects, engineers and scientists! We all need to peacefully work together to make this world a better place. :)

@@peacekeepers_error 7.1 foreshock... An advisory for this disaster scenario has been issued. I have no idea this thing is coming closer than what we're expected. Even somewhere far in the Asia, i was extremely scared.
Who else came here after that eerie "megaquake" warning for Nankai Trough in Japan on august 9th 2024?
@@hugodesrosiers-plaisance3156 i did come back here to my own video after this eerie warning
fukuoka will be dangerous too?
@@userhihihiwn I live in Miyazaki, I think Fukuoka is fine, so I want to go to Fukuoka, because my city will probably fall
@@MitsuTayakashi well the most dangerous part is the tsunami, and of course old structures. So living near the sea level is always a bad idea.
Japan will probably survive another 200 to 300 years of 9+ earthquakes before sinking, we won't be here to witness it
@@yakistolfo sinking? Is it predicted that Japan would sink in a few centuries?
For those who don't know, the future Nankai Earthquake is considered Japan's own 'Big One', in much the same way the San Andreas Fault's future Big One is treated for San Francisco. A lot of effort, research and engineering work has gone into preparing for and mitigating the effects of this earthquake, so that when it eventually does happen, hopefully the preparations will have paid off.
The Nankai Trough earthquake will possibly be one of the most powerful and scary earthquakes on Earth
Probably not. It's extremely unlikely to be 9.0+. Probably in the low 8s at most. The last time it happened in the 1700s, it killed about 10000+ people. Not that bad.
@@ALeaud The last time in 1946s.

@@Demi-to-fu I'm aware but the entire thing didn't move at that time. The last time the entire plate moved was in 1703 I think during the Hoei Earthquake.

@@omarcat5868 Nope. I'm being realistic. Also, what do you mean "no heart"? I'm telling you that it's unlikely to be a 9.1+ because in all of recorded history the Nankai Trough has never produced a 9.0+ earthquake.
Earthquakes are very common in Japan. However, this has positive aspects.
In many countries, an earthquake of magnitude 6-7 can be devastating. In Japan, people go about their daily lives without worrying about earthquakes of that magnitude. Buildings are also built with earthquakes in mind, so they are not damaged by that level of earthquake.
Even in Japan, an earthquake of magnitude 8 to 9 on the Richter scale causes a big commotion. However, people help each other and riots do not occur. Some buildings are damaged, but most buildings are still safe.
i live in Japan and i felt the 1/1/2024 earthquake... it was the most SCARY thing ive ever experienced.

You should note of the regional seismic intensity scale being the JMA intensisty scale "Shindo" scale ranging from Shindo 1-4. 5-/5+, 6-/6+, to 7
The movement of epicenter shows how the entire trough is snapping into place. Crazy.
Reminds me of how a few years back there come out this paper about how the subduction zone south of Java have potential for an 9.0+ eq which freaked everyone out for about a week
A simulation of how that would go down would be an interesting one to watch i think
I live in Japan. I was very scared by this earthquake, and the epicenter was close to where I am.
I just experienced, so I know how scary it could be, bless you all!
Yup, went right through my city too 🙃 No use worrying I guess.
I like the details like aftershocks and triggered earthquakes happening in real-time before the main earthquake is even over. Perhaps a similar video could be done for Cascadia, though it would be interesting to experiment with partial ruptures of the Cascadia megathrust in the range of magnitude 8.0-8.8, or perhaps different epicenters rather than just sticking to Northern California, as that hasn't really been done before on RUclips.
This is frightening because it could be reality soon. And it s even noticable in Korea. And X intensity is crazy
I don't think it will happen soon (this one specifically)
But there might be other 9+ happening on another fault. Like the 2011 one.
Nankai will probably not happen before another 50 years
Well the last Nankai Trough megaquake was 78 years ago, so it's just a matter of time before another happens.
If Japan got hit by another earthquake which effects the already stressed area...
@@MultiQweqweqw yes. This will happen somehow. Only question is when
Earthquakes themselves aren't much of a threat in Japan because most modern buildings are resistant to high intensity shakings. But the real danger is what follows after such intense earthquakes like Tsunamis which results in major death tolls.

Thank you for making a video like this!
The Nankai Trough mega-earthquake is a really big earthquake, and we know it best.
However, this is not widely known overseas. That's why videos like this are so important.
However, due to the periodic nature of Nankai Trough mega-earthquakes, it is said that there are about 30 years left until they occur. What is most urgent right now is a major earthquake directly hitting our nation's capital.
Please pray that the number of victims of a major earthquake will be reduced as much as possible.

Also, since Yokohama is a larger city than Kamakura, the damage is likely to be greater. However, Kamakura is an area with 800 years of history and heritage.
By the way, Yokohama began to be developed around 300 years ago, the same time as Tokyo.

Hey bro, even though I'm of course a little late to the party, would you like to do a real time simulation of a hypothetical magnitude 11 mega-earthquake caused by the combined rupture of the Japan Trench and Kuril-Kamchatka Trench one day? 😀
Because I, and perhaps many others as well, would love to see how that one might play out, and if the planet of Earth itself as a whole might even be affected by such a quake. 😁 😉
how did you simulate this?

This is interesting becose it seems that Japan is kind of in a Atlantis vibe.

Japan is the most dangerous country with earthquakes.

What will it be like if (God forbid) magnitude 9.0 hits Tokyo like it did in1930 ?
the estimates for a nankai earthquake are horrific, upwards of 250 000 dead mostly from the tsunami which, in a worst case will hit some places before the shaking is even done, there will be a lot of fires, building collapses, it'll be a hell similar to Tokyo in 23 but just not as physically devastating due to modern building standards

Sometimes, strategies link circular-dispersion of osaka-busan and busan-osaka. Some countries have munitions others don't. Others merely redirect forces to convenient-epi-centers and techtonic-teutonic terminology-geography. Discredit of results by stories is entertained by similar IQ social-groupings.

This doesn't seem right, that's not how the earthquakes happen. I can only assume you are trying to scare people and spear panic. Why would you do that?
This simulation shows how long it would take for a large quake to rupture the subduction zone :) all I did was to use publicly available scenario/ shake map data generated by official agencies, information which is well known and studied.
