Winter Soldier excellently dis-assembled! This is what I needed, as I love the comic/movie character but was not doing justice to him in Unmatched. Thanks!
Winter Soldier seems really strong, BUT I think I found his weakness. He's the slowest character in the game! He has no movement cards (except the ones that let your opponent move). Only other character without movement cards is Robin Hood that has ability for that. Movement can be pretty underrated so I think that balances things out. Though running away from him might not be a good idea since he will never exhaust himself, kinda like Terminator.
Might be the first hero I don't love on sight. Can't be cancelled wrecks a lot of the fun - he's just a ton of barely-interactive, huge, ranged attacks. No exhaustion, can draw 5, and the downside is he might (if he doesn't scheme) give his opponent a freebie they didn't ask for. If they wanted to make it interesting they should at least have given the opponent choices on star cards: Draw a card or heal 1. Move 2 or move Winter Soldier 2. Shuffle a card from discard into your deck or deal 1 to Winter Soldier. Of course, he might feel much better in play. But on paper? He's a pass.
In my opinion, Winter Soldier can easily be an S-tier fighter. His only weakness is his low health pool, actually. If looking theoretically at his matchups into S-tier fighters: ×Smashes Electra - better exhaustion, Wily fighting itself cancels resurrection combo, a lot of damage output. ×Great into Sherlock - Eliminates don't work, 3/5 value defenses into 3/5 value Sherlock's attacks, I just don't see how Sherlock can deal enough damage. Heals might also trigger. An easy exhaustion win. ×Slightly favored into Medusa I guess. The same reason as for Bigfoot - Medusa just can't soak that much damage, she has to deal more herself which is kinda difficult. I'd be scared about a pin although. Only Wily Fighting might help in such a situation. ×Great into Yennenga - can always trigger heals and even shuffle them into the deck, deals a lot of damage, might kill Archers with 6s, doesn't have problems with any of Yen's offensive threat ×Would probably struggle into Bigfoot. He just deals too much damage into Winter Soldier. Although this matchup can definitely go sideways. ×Probably struggles a lot into T-Rex. Giving her additional card drawing is deadly in this matchup. And overall, I guess WS has a great matchup spread and I believe that he might be even in the top-3.
My new main!! I love hero's that are hard to pilot, have a lot of benefits for the opponent, BUT, if you give them time, they will come strong later and get you in the end!! Looove that restoration didn't shy away from infinite recursion!! Brilliant idea! This game SHOULD have a balance between quick fast games, and long lasting playstyle of grinding it out. Also, the first ranged fighter I actually enjoy!! Ranged is my opinion too easy,...so I have often avoided...until now. This character design is genius!!! S tier!! But bloody hard to pilot!! Brilliant. Also...i think born in the barracks is a perfect card in this deck...and should be viewed as a lategame card only,...until then, probs just a blank 3 or boost.
You mention a couple of times that WS’s opponent is likely to defend/attack with a 3+ - but the other consequence of Brainwashed is that this character that’s amazing at exhaustion has made feint a blank 2. Having to play that against those hits will be painful… I am a bit worried that WS will be too powerful or, worse, that he can win without attacking. I am keeping faith in Restoration though!
Hey ! Nice video ! First impressions are great and fun :) What do you think about the three characters with few testing ? Will you upload the black widow video soon ? Thanks for your videos :D Take care !
All of these strong recursion effects makes me wonder if they’re trying to push the game away from the Exhaustion method of play. I remember reading that many design elements in Tales to Amaze actively discouraged the playstyle, and honestly I think it would be super interesting to see how that would affect the meta. Winter Soldier almost seems designed to run out of health before he would EVER run out of cards, and that’s kinda cool!
Might be crazy but Programmed To Kill could be a good mind game depending on the matchup. Since he has so many strong attacks, you could try and bait out a big defense like even a Skirmish. That way you don't win the combat and pull that strong defense out of the opponent.
I’m keen to see how his matchup goes against black panther, since black panther has the chance to rip cards out of his deck, if he gets his recursion, that could be a huge advantage. Not that it matters because black panther will be well through his deck before winter soldier reaches the point where recursion is necessary
A character with an infinite deck and healing, and at the same time has a good defense. And the character's ability is an absolute copy of SH. Have the developers gone crazy in this set?
I do feel like hes probably the most overpowered character in the game so far. Great attacks, great defenses, great draw, and he can go infinite. he doesnt have a lot of weaknesses.
I wonder why effects are marked with a star. Yes, it is clear that they are negative for the Winter Soldier, but perhaps the brainwashing is not about all effects, but only about the star effects? Otherwise it's a very strong character. Wow!
You're 100% right about complete the mission that card is insanely good. Also glad to see at least one other person likes WS

Jil Trent also has versa printed five, and also it is an any card… it seems strong
Looks so fun! This whole set looks so fun! But I’m also getting Daredevil flashbacks…

The Bionic Arm/Marksman combo is insane! 6 dmg, move the opponent's fighter 5 spaces, deal 5 dmg...
👍🏼 thanks Baked

Winter Soldier looks quite impressive. I saw a lot of debate about it on the Discord
It's a baked good!
They gave Reprogam Chemical X

Winter Soldier sounds absolutely busted.
