  • Georgetown on the island of Penang (Pulau Pinang) is a tourist favourite in Malaysia. As the second largest city in Malaysia and the old town being a UNESCO World Heritage Site Georgetown features a large number of eating places and several colonial-era buildings.
We start the walk with some birthday karaoke :-) on Love Lane. The area around Chulia Street has some of the nightlife and is more quiet during the day. We walk around and somewhat into the direction of the picturesque Armenia street.
On the way to the old core city we see the Kapitan Keling Mosque, and check some of the famous street art around the popular Armenia street. We finally go further to down to the sea and the Clan Jetties which are the old Chinese water villages.
A hot day with a final cool breeze near the ocean.

Thank you for sharing. May I suggest that you take a shot of the street sign so we know which street you are walking through each time.😀

Good suggestion. I'll keep that in mind. I record often the walk on a fitness app so I can trace back from the path there where I was walking. When there is time I'll add Closed Captioning with additional info yet I haven't tested how much work and popular that will be

Again, the concept of walking through the space, without comments, proves to pay.
In a world where the majority of people spend their time in filming themselves, there is not much to learn, to feel, to discover through their documents. They produce very poor memories.
On the opposite, turn your cameras forward, forget yourself, dont talk, give space to space, pay some attention to time, record the life of the local people, the sounds and the vibrations of a city : then you turn the switch and the magic on.
My last stay in Georgetown was in 2016. Apart of giving me the chance of virtually returning to one of my favorite cities in Asia, your video shows me variations that took place meanwhile, between then and now.
That is also where your production has to offer me much more than the average pre-digest and narcissist videos seen on RUclips.
Thanks again for your Post. I guess that you filmed on a Sunday morning, starting about 9-10 AM ?
    Best regards.

Great video..showcasing some of the lovely 'colonial style' architecture..and the amusing street Art. Just wondering, as Malaysia is a predominately muslim Country, can you get a beer in the cafes here?
I think I saw a Carlsberg sign at one of the cafes 🤔

Beer and cocktails are surely available in bars in Malaysia and certainly Penang which is a tourist favourite. There are different ethnic groups in Penang [1] and different religions which can be practised as the constitution says “Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony.”
Also check out my other Gergetown walks from that day: ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=poptravel+penang

Hey do you have the route you walked on a map? Going there next month and would like to do the same walk

      @poptravelorg  5 лет назад +2

I didn't record the route yet in Georgetown it's easy to get around. Here are two more walks that I'll release at a later point: ruclips.net/video/db8yZClNmqc/видео.html walking back from the Jetty to Armenia Street and at night around Little India ruclips.net/video/j6HF1fvWgPk/видео.html
All these walks give a good impression of the distance and what you can expect. It's great to get lost in the city as many back alleys also have some charming details.

TBH, I hated all those graffiti and vibrant colours on those historical buildings, it ruined the characteristic of being a heritage architecture, should've restore those buildings back to their original form rather than throwing bunch of graffiti on the wall that will eventually wash out by rain and what's left will be some mess that made the building looks dirty.

The murals are actually a big draw for tourism in Penang. Postcards and posters feature these wall paintings mixed with real objects like the bicycle one. Over the years they have washed out though I'd expect them to be restored as they are special to this place
