Good choice on strings. I have used trumpet bore oil for years, like 20 or more years. Both for cleaning and reconditioning the fret board. Brings out the beauty of the fretboard better than anything else I have tried. I would be a bit concerned the solvent power of lighter fluid could leach out the waxes which I want to remain in the wood. Just my opinion.
don't use lighter fluid, use ajax window cleaner. it's cheaper and just as effective and less likely to dissolve anything. it also foams lightly when you scrub with the toothbrush lifting the dirt away from the board and into your towel. then linseed oil.
lighter fluid is extremely cheap and it’s used by pretty much every well-established luthier. many window cleaners use ammonia which is not a chemical you want anywhere near your guitar. same goes for anything with isopropyl alcohol. lighter fluid/naphtha is tried and true and it’s been used for decades for cleaning guitars for a good reason.
Hi. I have used a lemon oil that i buy at the Pharmacy to moisturize my fretboards for a good 20 years, and this includes guitars from the 60s and 70s. It's called "Limonis Aetheroleum", Is that a bad option to use that stuff?
It’s whole shit-tins better than lighter fluid. GC point is good, it does help condition the wood, just keep it way from any finish, and any wood that could conceivably need a refinish. Best ever is twice a year with linseed oil. Just make sure you clean off all the excess or it’ll go all gummy on yah.
Lighter fluid contains Naptha which is an excellent solvent for cleaning fret boards. Today's lighter fluids(except for generic lighter fluids) have additives which can harm fret boards. DO NOT USE THEM FOR CLEANING FRET BOARDS!!! Lighter fluids from years past used PURE Naptha. Hardware stores sell PURE Naptha( except in California where it has been BANNED!), if Home Depot or Lowe's doesn't have it, an old style hardware store usually will. Some paint stores carry PURE Naptha as well.
What is the "instrument food? A Great wax? Then he applies it after the lighter fluid cleaning. I know what a tooth brush and lighter fluid is, but makes this video useless not explaining what the product is. SOS!!!! Anyone know?
I always find it funny how often those online apostles don't even try to refference anything to the video, but randomly come to the comment section and write their messages... For Christ's sake, at least try to pour in some love and sincerity into the message and not type like a bot...
Crazy, first video I came to and it’s a Tanglewood in similar condition that I’m cleaning right now… good video.

This was very satisfying to watch 😍

I too agree. It really works.
Does It have to be Ajax brand exactly?
If that thing contains alcohol, you will melt any nitrocellulose finish on your neck. The safest to use is lighter fluid

Havent cleaned fret bord in 7 years think i should do it now
What is the conditioner you are using?
can I use ketamine?
You can, and you'll end up re-stringing yourself.
Boof it
darkness my old friend
I have a strange suspicion that he isn’t kidding
Is there a way to clean/brighten the inlays on the fretboard?
WHAT did you use AFTER the lighter fuel????
can we use nail polish remover instead of the lighter fluid?

I think lemon oil actually is good since it rehydrates your fretboard

Have any effect if i use zippo oil to other wood...
Try to wipe along/with the grain of the fretboard. Not that important, but if you really want to be extra careful, then that's the way to go.
Great tips!
Is rubber alcohol a good substitute to lighter fluid?
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodglut designs.
Did I miss the part where you say what you used to rehydrate the fretboard? Yes. I did.
Can i use olive or coconut oil?????
I always have and have never had problems.
No! Never use food based oils, it will start to rot and it will rot your whole fretboard.
I have used coconut oil and despite its very neutral its not good, it starts a creat some mold with the time
On utube a guy used olive oil on his les Paul, polished with it over years and it got ruined
Your brother’s t-shirt... 😂😹
I am glad I am bot yers 😛
The harder part to clean is around the fret and the fretboard binding..
Can i use kerosine?
No! Don’t do that. Use linseed oil, or better yet take it to a luthier.

@@ricardorojas5045 is zippo brand safe?
Better is to clean the fretboard with lemon oil very easy

The advice is sound, but this suppose to be instructional. Half the filming hides what he's actually doing.
Christ died for you choose him today he loves you
Err, ok?! I don’t think that Christ would make a very good fret board cleaner though.
@@timcotterill3952 But wasn’t Jesus a Rockstar? 😂🤘🏻
Then how come he never calls?

Does Christ use lemon oil to clean his fretboard?
