What would you do to fix the Grand Trashional?
Stick some stamps & my address on the bumper 😄
Why not build a small block Buick 350 that will even fit on the v6 motor mounts for this thing? Molnar makes aftermarket connecting rods for the sbb 350 now so that is no longer a weak link. And TA Performance makes aluminum heads for the 350 as well. The sbb 350s love boost as much if not more than the Buick v6 too. The factory cranks hold up very well and so do the blocks. As a matter of fact the blocks hold up better than the BBBs without the jock strap(girdle).
drop a Hellcat engine in it 😁
Put a Garret variable geometry turbo & a larger intercooler (with a diverted AC line). Maybe a GNX modchip.
fix the oil leak . my son says put a LS in it
Dudes’ wrenching with his Rolex. Respect.
Doesn’t do him any good not on his wrist
@@drewroehm3292 it’s expensive though, is the point
@@thermalrider it's a Rolex, they're designed for THIS. They're designed to be used to the extreme and keep ticking, that's what makes a Rolex a Rolex.
Tells time about like a Timex. I guess why not?
Great chemistry between Lucky and Alex. Also thankful that as a non-US resident, I actually get to see some content for once.
Love the witty banter dynamic between Lucky & Alex - fun times :D
Lucky always cracks me up. Wish I had an uncle or grandpa like him when I was a kid. 😂
Made 748 hp to the wheels & high 9's with my modded V6 GN. Other builders made more. But I realize this is a video channel, I still enjoy watching. The GN was and is a special car. Think back to 1987, how fast were other cars?
They did a lot and put a lot of money into that car to go very slow... My stock engine turbo regal with bolt-ons goes bottom 11's....
SO HAPPY to see Alex on a major TV show! She is, in my opinion, a modern day pioneer for female drag and drive contestants. Plus, plus, she's a modern day icon for other young ladies who'd like to enter the drag and drive world if not drag racing itself. Awesome!
Meh.. here for the cars not some girl power nonsense, too much simpin in these comments.
@davidgalea6113
She's like Jesse Combs. Grew up in the industry at her dad's side. The girl is legit and not just some DEI, token box ticker. Girl power is fine if there's actually something behind it like in this case.
This last season with Alex and Lucky was awesome. Great team!
🔧🔧
Tony is better
@@josephohara6588 Tony was waay better.. she only got the job because the viewers are mostly men and she's a bit of eye candy = more views.
you must be lost ...she killed the show
She is doing fine. Tony is gone and moved on. Alex has done more in her short life span then all the alphabet whiners combined.
@@Hanzyscure no
I love seeing Alex and Lucky working together. Match made in heaven.
love this combo of hosts, keep up great work
These two together are content gold.
Absolute gems!
My 87 T Type did 13.8 STOCK. 13.2 with gutted converter cone K&N and higher boost still on stock chip. Stock headers work well into 10 sec range. If Don Cruz donated headers you need to show y’all how to tune it too!
These old V6 Buicks ain’t no LS!
I won't lie, I miss Tony and Lucky together. Their combined sense of humor was hilarious...BUT I am starting to enjoy Lucky and Alex on the show! They are a good combination. Keep up the great work!
If you don't know, Tony is over at Hagerty, now.
Tony has no mechanical sympathy and Lucky the opposite so ya it worked. If Alex don't have a computer controlling timing to keep tires from spinning she can't do it !
Look at the Camaro runs she didn't have a clue and blamed electronics for her non ability to feather a gas pedal or slowly engage. Love them all and computers are better but I'm old-school I'd rather watch Freiburger pedal accelerator instead of a keyboard for speed.
@@NarwahlGaming thank you... Oh ya he is all over RUclips & Finnegan etc...
I love watching them all but prefer old-school like Freiburger or Steve that can pedal a car and not pedal a computer. Obviously the computers better and faster I know I'm just old school.
Hey thanks for replying & happy 4th
Please Trade Alex and some cash for Tony and watch the rating improve!
Really think that this is an awesome team just go together so well
In the 90's you could get low 12's for under $2000 without touching the motor...
Fuel Pump and hotwire kit
Race chip
K&N Filter
3" Downpipe and cat back exhaust
Spark plugs and maybe valve springs depending on mileage
I cut my hotrod teeth on an 86 T-Type and ran 11.82 in highschool with the above mods, plus a TA49 turbo and bigger injectors, plenty more in it with a few suspension mods and better converter...
This was suggested to me and it was surprisingly Kore entertaining than I thought it would be!
Love the chemistry between Alex and Lucky!
This was very Boss. Love the Bone Marrow. Great day you guy's had. ✌👍
I always use a drinking straw to find TDC on 1 instead of a hardened steel screwdriver.
Way less issues with possible engine damage 😉
You're not supposed to hammer the screwdriver into the top of the piston with a sledgehammer - you just lightly rest it on the crown with the tip of your pointer finger.
Can't use straws in CA. 😂😂😂
@@ChristopherHallett depending on layout the screwdriver can jamb sideways in the plug hole. better idea to use something softer like wood or plastic
@@techs1smh13 yeah, unless they're paper LOL
@@btchhopperou812 👍😂
I don't know if you will see or Alex but I said before and I'll probably always say it , GIRL YOU ROCK AND I HOPE YOU NEVER STOP
Love this new combo on HOT ROD garage. They complement each other so well, and Alex is a welcome addition to the show.
Too many clothes
I just thought, never seen Alex in HRG. But now it's corrected. Definetely different than Tony but not bad at all.
There is still something wrong with the Trashnational. Did you degree the cam still seems like it may be off. Needs new injectors and fuel pump?
Needs a hi stall converter and a 4.11 gear for rear.
I like the Lucky- Wheelie show.
Love the show and the joke's, thanks.
Great show, being a motor head (myself).
The ages are backwards making your show comical to watch. With new age knowledge and old school knowledge.
Is great for motortrend atmosphere!
that poor Typhoon!
A local electronic engineer was a GN guru.He made chips for the stock computer and without even removing the valve covers had the running 12s
Great fun. These two are a great pair.
Well Lucky, you know that increased too much the views and 👍with ALEX at the portrait; she itsn`t just a fast woman driver..., also she knows very well, how are working every single pieces in to the car, and fixed as well. Saludos
Our local tracks won't let you run with the windows down.
Chemistry is everything. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels.
I've always wanted a cyclone. Those trucks are sweet.
Alex is awesome Her Dad Dennis is great as well
So easy to run 12s in that car . Someone went to to great pains to install grand national interior.😂
You can go high 12s on a stock gn turbo, and intercooler
love alex and lucky chemistry
Alex Taylor is a dream girl woah love her
love having alex on the show 👍👍
My 87' Shelby Z lightly modded with a SOHC 2.2, stock Garrett T-3, 5 speed I ran through the traps low 13's
For mid 80's those and the Omni GLH were pretty freaky fast lil cars esp if you just up the boost some
I just recently started watching MotorTrend and I like this show and Graveyard Carz the best so far.
Great choices!
RPM loss at the top is most likely due to spent valve springs, possibly combined with fuel leaning out. Fuel system needs monitoring(could have been done on dyno perhaps, assuring 1:1 pressure rise correlating to boost PSI w/baseline in low 40's), BTW, what size were those injectors and if the fuel was 'stinky', the pump should've been upgraded when the bad gas was evacced. Also, adding to the idea of a likely 'lean' issue was when the exhaust was freed up, performance actually went into the toilet totally. Aye... these cars have a decent learning curve- a LOT of 'little things' that can have a pretty big effect on performance. That said, for having 375ish R WHP, anything above mid-12's is pretty embarrassing, but being there is a general lack of familiarity with TB's, a mulligan is in order LOL. It was still a great 'watch', and although I kept talking to y'all trying to 'help' during the Buick re-build, I'm gonna watch it again and see what I missed... Thanks for the vid
rather than "bag and tag", hit up your local delicatessen for the plastic containers they put salads in. fill with the necessary fasteners, and pour in a 50/50 mix of vinegar and salt, to make a brine that eats rust. then write on the outside where they go, and how (if they are different lengths or sizes, like in front timing cover assemblies, etc).
meanwhile, when pulling a cylinder head for its first time, a way not for it to end up on the floor like the 4.3 V6 nearly did, is to loosen the head bolts, break the head free of the block while the bolts are still grabbing some deck thread, and then pull out all the bolts and fab a nice little handle from scrap that screws into the rocker arm setup and now carry it like am attache case (what your father used for business before cell phones were invented to carry everything).
I would have thought a 1987 block would have roller lifters OEM, but Lucky makes it sound like the old cam was just "regular hydraulic lifter", ie, flat tappet.
The Buick GS Grand Nationals will be hitting the historic track at Beech Bend Raceway May 17-20, 2023 as the Buick GSCA presents its 42nd consecutive annual week-long get together in Bowling Green. Included is racing, a car show, and many other auto enthusiast attractions. Open to the public!
Shes great enjoy watching very smart whe n it comes too fast cars.
My brother bought one brand new in 1987. It ran in the mid 14,s all day on stock engine.
Really should fix up that Grand National . It's a classic❤❤❤
My favorite suv ever! I still want one.
Love this episode. Yeah, I know it’s been said a thousand times. I have a crush.
Grand National is my favorite Buick here the typhoon is awesome as well
total kickass show !!!!
Good long episode, I wish MotorTrend did more of them.
It was a great season, bummed Trash didn’t get fixed and the Typhoon didn’t get worked on any further.
I helped a friend go low 11s back in 87 and 88 they have a lot to learn.
Are you willing to share your 35 year old embellished knowledge ?
You have to make the cassis to work. We used no hop bars and MT 9 inch slicks also unhooked the front sway bar. Installed an adjustment waste gate, transmission mods, factory ECM, factory fuel system. The engine was bone stock factory intercooler hoses used to blow off so silicone ones were installed. The turbo was upgraded in the low 12s to get us in to the 11s the injectors were cleaned and rebalanced to get to low 11s. The car they are working on should be gone over completely. It’s likely mushy in the suspension. The motor doesn’t sound healthy either. I was a Buick tech back in the day and the engineers knew how to build a turbo motor.
@@jeeptk I don't know what a cassis is.
@@Hanzyscure The frame and suspension
Lucky smiles more when there is Estrogen in the house. LOL
It's like a dad and daughter project.
always a great episode when you have Alex Taylor the hottest woman in drag racing
The world needs more gearhead gals like Alex. Cute and not afraid to get her hands dirty. She probably had a supportive dad 👍
Her dad built her 6 second shoebox that she ran at Sick Week.
@@metalfarmer9286 oh yeah! I saw her showing off her badass tool trailer
@@metalfarmer9286 She did a ton of work on the '55 too. I think most of the wiring was her with help here and there to hold ends and it was A LOT of wiring. Really good build series on that car. And their fluffy Chow dog Meka keeps everyone in line, lol.
My new favorite show! Love the new add on,shes knowledgeable and very easy on the eyes.
255 whp at 16 psi? I built a 3800 that makes 291 at 7 psi
Great video thanks
Need bigger headers, 3" collectors and more boost baby!
"Burn the witch!" I literally thought that before he even said, "We're doing sorcery here." 😂
She's the real deal!
Alex is a great addition to the team. She a great work ethic is funny, but very knowledable. Lucky and Alex have a great chemistry as well. Really good choices made there MotorTrned
You really got an unrusty grand national for $3800 and running???
Honestly? ✌️👍🇬🇧
It's a regal
Looks like it needs a higher stall converter and possibly a transmission rebuild.
Alex, please put on long sleeves if you're running 120 mph.
“Wheelie” did a great job running the cars!!! Lucky might need his Zamboni license taken away!
Good video
Alex really is awesome... She's the Real Deal Race Girl
Excellent, lucky is still class act and the new girl is a great mix. What a team. Well done guys. ✌️👍🇬🇧
The Lucky/Alex team is a good fit. Two that are knowledgeable and not afraid to dive in and get hands dirty!
Very nice video keep it coming ....we love you guys working together
If you just ask someone who has been around those engines and cars for 20 plus years I could have helped 🤷♂️
Dudes ! The stock engine made more hp and ran 12s at track . You Moho’s really destroyed a stock toothbrush.
I'm here for the engine teardowns
Alex Taylor 🥰🤩
If you watch Riding With Alex Taylor on RUclips you'll see she knows her stuff.
Alex! Safety glasses please✌️❤️🇨🇦

Love GN’s
I see Alex and I click because I know it's going to be interesting
We hope you liked the full episode!
ahh no lol its garbage
Miss Tony on the show. Stay Tuned! 🤘
He's over at Hagerty, now, if you weren't aware.
These cars ran 13.9 stock. You guys install a $2000 set of headers, billet roller cam kit, CNC ported heads and big turbo, and somehow manage to run slower than a stock 1987 Grand National.
😂😂😂😂😂
If I’m not mistaken, it’s not a real GN. Tony had mentioned that in the debut episode of the car
Ya the difference is they have a Grand rational and a Grand National Xperimental ran a 13.9. Similar yet different.
I don't remember any grab national coming with t tops
@@johnsnow1355 my grand national has t tops
Dayuum Alex you are gorgeous lady. Putting someone that pretty beside Lucky is just criminal!”! Haha
My friend said I like her but I can’t figure out if she is hot or not. I told him it’s the dark shadow of being a Chevy girl that confuses him
So neat to see a young lady turn wrenches and drag race
Not bad for a little V6 . Where are the first 2 episodes?
Omg ALEX! I know it’s a show but take your rings off when you’re wrenching!!!
Am I crazy or is he wrenching while wearing a Rolex GMT Blueberry lol
Nope. Just a Sub date.
that's how you know it's a budget build :)
🔥
Great vid!!!! 👍👍
Alex is a great new dynamic for lucky great together and both have awesome car knowledge!😎👍💗
Ported heads, hydr roller cam, front mount intercooler, adjust fuel pressure reg, 3" downpipe, exh cut out, roller rockers, headers and Holley HP efi system running 14.1 @ 105mph.... OMG!!! What a epic fail. This should be a low 12 high 11 on pump gas at 16 -17psi, and a 10sec car with race fuel, more boost and a sticky tire.
I thought I was having trouble making my GN fast at least I’m poor so I have an excuse 😂
Just my .2 cents as a GN owner, you aren’t gonna fix the car running poorly with performance parts. Make sure the scanmaster numbers are correct. Because this is def not the fastest that car (engine) has ever ran
Sue Quattro is 60 I'm 66 from Baltimore MD before their stones.
Commerce Ga dragstrip has recently been demolished, very sad about it ;(
Whoever had the idea to hire Alex needs a promotion. She is such a good fit!
Yeah, having a girl on set with definitely help with viewership.
Love the blazer videos, every v8 needs a blower
