Making a nano reef tank from start to finish | Fluval Evo 13.5 AIO

- I like plants and I also like my coral!😅
I thought I'd film myself setting up my nano reef tank (13.5 gallons) because my coral bring me joy and I hope they will for you, too. When I moved from my apartment into a house two hours away, it was very stressful for my coral and I ended up overheating a temporary tank. Don't do that! I knew I had to get my coral into a better tank before I lost more of them.
For the Fluval Evo 13.5, I used live rock from my previous two 5 gallon tanks, and added new live sand. The light I use is a Fluval Marine which can be programmed through the Fluval app on a smart phone.

Cool video Haniya! Just found your channel today. Im a newbie to fish keeping (tropical). Once I'm more experienced I'd love to try a reef tank also.
Good on you for diving in and experimenting. Keep us up to date on your journey please 🙏
Good luck and all the best 👍
Thanks so much for watching! Reef tanks are a bit more work up front but I’ve let mine go without a water change for awhile now ha!
Never put water in before sand that why it so cloudy
I would of cleaned the algae off the rock first but good job
Thanks! I've learned a lot in the last few months and I'm definitely going to clean the algae when I upgrade soon D:
Rocks full of hair algea
This was super interesting! Thank you for sharing your adventure with us 😄
Thanks so much for watching! It was definitely a different video for me but I hope it was helpful in some way, haha
I have the same tank. And i do soft coral dominant. My tank has been going for 9 months i used 3 beneficial bacteria starters and my tank dosnt grow alge like yours
@@Michaels-Reef The algae is actually left over from a tank that was very near a window and didn't have a proper filter on it, so the algae grew pretty crazy. My Mexican Turbo snails seem to be taking care of it now, though!
dont need a cycled tank fir most. i started day one with 2 torches, gsp, a duncan and a hammer. all looked great and did fine throughout the cycle
Yeah! I know I read that from Randy Holmes-Farley! I tried it in my 5 gallon evo and then this one
So much to learn !!! Hope you do lots of home work .
Sps will not like the light and will likely die soon .
Vast amount of algea! Brush it off!
Good luck with it !
Yeah! I'm going to do an update video! I pulled off most of the algae and added more snails to help. I'm also just sticking with the LPS and softies for now :) Not sure I am ready for SPS
Didn't know you into salt water tank, very cool. Thanks for sharing the fun
Thanks for watching! It's still a new hobby but I love the look of a nice tank. Hoping I can get mine to that point someday haha
I learned a lot from this. Thanks for sharing, Haniya!
Aw thanks so much for watching, Josh!! This was one of my first CJS video attempts haha
love these tanks i have the same one on my channel
Oh thanks I’ll have to go watch!
You just need a toothbrush and scrub off that algae, so it doesn't kill your coral! I have a 80gal reef tank but just picked up this fluval tank today(:
Thanks for the tip! I’ve just been picking it off with hands but I’ll try the brush next
Subscribed! Have you added fish? Would love to see!
I just did!! I’m planning to do an update soon. Thanks for watching!
What heater you have
I just have the fluval heater: amzn.to/4a4wcZY
why you didnt remove the algae on the plugs and rock? this is no good for the corals long term! good luck on reefing, its amazing
I'm sorry I'm still learning! I'm pulling it off now and getting more guys to eat it!
You should have gotten most of that green hair algae off the rock before you did all this
Thanks! New to this 😅
@@HaniyaRae we all start somewhere your all good, a siphon and toothbrush on your next water change will get a lot of it out 👍🏽
