- This is the fishing and recap of the 2023 Knuklhed Championship on Guntersville Lake. Me and 4 other anglers teamed up to compete in the first championship. My day had its ups and downs, losing a few really good fish. This event was really fun and plan to get more people involved in it next year with more monthly giveaways.

Something my girlfriend and I started looking into his moving into Northern Alabama as it looks more sufficient for areas for me to fish so on so forth. I live in North Idaho so I'm pretty limited as for options. And frankly I am personally tired of snow and ice, I don't mind cold weather just too old to want to deal with ice fishing

From my experience I would use the spinnerbait on the main lake, and something slower in the creek. Sharpen the hook to penetrate the tougher mouths of the bit ones.

I will be back again next year for the Knuklhed challenge and I'm gonna be getting to know Guntersville and Wheeler a lot better before then! I have a lot of great memories from fishing these lakes with my grandfather as a kid and it was really cool to go back and fish them now and make new great memories. I had a blast meeting and fishing with everyone.

What an amazing video ! The drone footage was so cool. I felt bad about the big one's you lost. Great video. Just a thought, hook quality/sharpness (your comment at around 10:30) .. it's difficult to assess how your daggers are holding up when banging them around structure. I carry a sharpener in my vest and I admit to not using it until I miss a hook set on a beast that deserved a photo. Pre-tournament hook care or replacement is a consideration as important as lure choice and presentation. Thank you again for your hard work and entertainment. God bless.

I always use trailer hooks on spinner baits and buzz baits. I used to have issues with them coming off all the time and that fixed the problem. Makes a HUGE difference.

I have paused this video at 10:48 in frustration for you john. Im not the guy with every answer but i believe i can offer you a bit of advice here that may help. Get yourself a hook file or hook sharpener and learn how to use it. I have been in the same frustration you were in with that spinnerbait and couldnt figgure out why i couldnt get the fish into the boat. A fellow told me my hook was dull and ofcourse i argued as it felt pretty sharp to me. He sharpened it and i started getting them in. Best advice i have ever got in fishing besides you cant catch themfrom your couch. Sharp hooks win tournaments and having the net doesnt hurt either lol.
Spyderco triangle ceramic rods have a groove cut out for sharpening hooks. I think a couple of the Worksharp sharpeners have fish hook sharpening system built in. Good idea 👍

I always carry a hook sharpener,a few strokes help. A trailer hook is good also. God Bless
Tough day with the hook sets, but a great video still, John! I'm going to check out the Knuklhed link. Chad is a great guy. I met him when he had the Hook1 shop and he was running some tournaments in Middle TN.

Hmmm...would a trailer hook on the Spinner bait work, John? Never used one myself, but after seeing hose nice ones get loose, the trailer hook idea came to mind. Either way, great video & thanks for taking us along! :-)

Hopefully I’ll be able to enter the Tournament in 2024. Wish I could’ve been entered when I caught my PB this year. American Fish Taxidermy mounted it for me, and it is scheduled to arrive Thursday of this week, going to do an unboxing video when it arrives. As always great video, on to the next one, as I’m trying to catch up on a month or two of falling behind.

When the lure you're using keeps producing small fish change to something else, like a big worm or a jig . You don't have confidence in those type baits because you don't use them. Once you have a limit go big fish hunting
