you had it perfect until you messed with it with the spatula. you kinda ruined it. i would say take some fine art classes in composition first and then come back to this technique.
lyrastar999 lol
@@carengoodrich i'm serious. it looked great and then you fussed with it! one thing old Mr. Cheek from high school art class taught me was "know when to quit!" thanx Cheek!
lyrastar999 You miss the point of my videos. I am demonstrating ideas so people can do their version of it. Many people have launched into paint pouring because of my videos, and are soaring beyond what I have shown them.
(And before I go further, please know that I’m not mad or upset, I got a kick out of your comment, and I like to push back)
But my lol was mostly a reaction to you advising me to “take fine art composition classes then come back to this technique.” It truly is funny. I’m very aware of composition and think about it in everything I do. I’m pretty sure Mr Cheek is old and tired, and wouldn’t approve of paint pouring. Most “fine art” teachers live in the world of theory, paint with tiny brushes, and fuss over details. I left that crap behind long ago. Luckily, people who are new to painting and are attracted to paint pouring don’t have the weight of what is taught in formal art education. I’ve known many people with art degrees who say it took them years to undo the constraints of formal education (“right and wrong”) so they could regain freedom and paint how they really want to paint.
When you get a half million views on one of your videos, get back to me and show me how it’s done.
lmao says the one with like 20 views on her "masterpieces" i'm pretty sure she knows what she's doing. chill out
RUDE!
My first attempt at a swipe with a paper towel turned out ABSOLUTELY AWESOME--thanks to you! I can't wait to do another one!
Linda Connolly oh good! Thanks for letting me know. Total addiction now! I love swiping.
Excellent tutorial! You make it look easy, which makes you an excellent teacher! Beautiful work, thanks for posting for us novices!
Love, love love this swipe - one of the prettiest Ive ever seen. Thanks for sharing.
Now that was good. An swipe and then an experienced detailed touch. And then , most importantly, left alone.
A beautiful piece.

I saw the comments and checked out the before and after you adjusted the black area. You are the master, keep showing these kittens who the true cat is. I love it.

I love it! The spatula effect gave the painting really nice patterns and contrast! I can’t wait to try this swipe method!
Like the idea of dry, rather than wet, paper towel; also painting sides black. Looks lovely.

It is very very beautiful Caren. I love it. Thank you for sharing.
I’m going to try this. I have an ocean theme in my bedroom. This would be great to do sand colours with the water colours from shallow to deeper. Can’t wait to try it.
Absolutely love that pour
Love this technique!! Thank you for sharing!

Love the top colours , reds and oranges
Amazing result. thank you for sharing
Absolutely beautiful!
Wow! Came out fantastically!
Absolutely beautiful!!
I like this look. The center swipe I did over a year ago is still one of my favorite pours.
Sherry B yes it is very distinct from a “regular” swipe!
Fascinating. I'm working up to trying this! Why would anyone put a thumbs down on any of your videos? Even if you "mess up" it's learning for the rest of us. Thank you for all your videos.
Karen Sanderson yes the whole point is for people to try it themselves. As far as “thumbs down”, it happens to everyone who dares put their ideas forth. No biggie!! :-)
Really beautiful. Can’t believe the cells.
It's GORGEOUS!!
I love this , it reminds me of the entrance to another part of a cave., getting ready to enter. So cool.
I love these!!!
Absolutely gorgeous 😍

@karengoodrich I keep coming back to this one I love the organic-ness of this southwestern beauty. I love that you don’t tilt blow or stretch. This was one of the first pour paintings I ever saw and I got hooked. I can only hope to achieve what you have! Stay safe! ❤️
snow flake thank you so much! I hope you are doing well with your pouring, swiping is fun and pretty easy to get good results!
❤it. Amazing colors. It reminds me of Kilwea Volcano in Hawaii & waterfalls in Greece, or Puerto Rico
This is so beautiful!! Thank you for sharing!!
Very nice, great color through the black!
Lovely...amazing.....thank you for sharing this technique 😘
Fabulous!!!
Drinking my coffee and bouncing in my seat with excitement because I mixed paint yesterday and it’s out there *points* in my studio just waiting for me to rock some creativity. And boom baby! You’re my morning inspiration rawr .. thanks doll
Quirky Whims wow good to know! Coffee and inspiration! Sounds like your next few hours are going to be fun!
This is so nice to watch. Thank you for making these videos :D
Gorgeous!
Really interesting, Caren Goodrich. Looks like a lot of fun. It kind of makes me think of the, sometimes, random beauty you get with watercolor that lands just right, but much more redeemable. It looks like you probably would always end up with something cool.
kotonagano I used to do watercolor and loved the results when colors would mix, mesh, and settle into the watercolor paper crevices. But once I started in acrylics, I got hooked on the vibrancy and never went back to watercolor.
Pouring/swiping do have similarities to the actions of watercolor, I love expecting the unexpected.
@@carengoodrich, I completely get that. Compared to the acrylics, watercolor looks like mud. I'm using some of the newer Duochromes, by Daniel Smith, and other metallics to try to imitate silk fabric (kimono fabric) on paper. I got to your upload on accident and it's really fascinating. I've watched it twice. I am so tempted to save up and try. Any suggestions for information on what is good for a starter kit?
Stunning
WOW... so pretty . Congrats Caren !
As soon as you “swiped” I whoa’d out loud. Haha! Awesome technique and video, thank you for sharing your expertise.
Lee Smith you are welcome, Lee!
Glad to see black as the controlled focus color......nice....
you definitely didn't "mess" anything with your spatula... too bad people get so critical!! Mixing different techniques just add a new dimension to the"already seen" !! Thank you for sharing your skills 😍👏👏
Pascale Baudrillart yes, it’s easy to rewind a video and find where something was “better”. Unfortunately, life and art doesn’t work like that!
That’s really beautiful 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love your colours!
That is such a beautiful swipe
You got me motivated! Going to try technique. Thanks!
Beautiful thanks Caren!
I think adding the touch of the spatula connected the two parts better than the empty void of black. Very nice indeed overall.
Stan Watt thank you Stan, I agree!
I haven't done any pouring myself...yet...I'm just enjoying watching all the techniques that you all are using. I love your swipe. The colors are great, the technique is great. I can't wait to join you in this fun looking art!
claudia warren thank you! Watching is fun, too!
I absolutely loved this technique. 5 star outcome.
Dawn Rowe wow thanks, Dawn! I love swiping!
It's so glad to see you again. Your videos are so educational. The colors are awesome!
