Lost Inca City: Ollantaytambo Peru 🇵🇪

- ■ PERU, SACRED VALLEY: Ollantaytambo was an important gateway city to Machu Picchu even 600 years ago. Today tourists pass through this town either by rail or road to the world famous Inca ruins. But this city have some pretty impressive ruins dating back to the heyday of the Inca empire as well.
Due to her strategic significance the city contained a fort which along with some agricultural terraces can be seen up close even today. Naturally this was something I had to investigate.
Imagine Emperor Manco Capac riding his white horse on the Fortress extolling his warriors on against the Spanish. Ollantaytambo was the last battle the Inca won. Manco Capac retreated to Villcabamba from here, was eventually hunted down, and murdered.
They just had to look for a fat man riding a white horse ha
You are good.
@@Africanvillagetee The fall of Manco Capac is a heartbreaking story. He and his wife were hounded from Villcabamba, betrayed by Spanish who had killed Francisco Pizzaro and were hiding under the protection of the Inca Emperor. His wife (also his sister) was stolen, raped and murdered by the Spanish. Her body was placed in a basket and sent down the river. To be found by the Emperor. Manco Capac was eventually discovered hiding around a dismal campfire in the jungle to be tortured and assassinated.
It should be noted that it is Manco Capac II, or Manco Inca Yupanqui.
@@KanBig You are correct, there were 2 Manco Inkas, the first and the last.
Peru has an unbelivable amount of ruins. If you go to the coast, you can see pyramids and cities of the Moche and Chimu cultures, as well as the Nazca. There's also the 4,000 year old Norte Chico civilization, the oldest in the Americas. Their hub is the city of Caral, which lies in the Supe Valley (Supe, Barranca Province).
Peru is famous for his food (lomo saltado, ceviche, papa a la huancaina, anticuchos, aji de gallina, causa, etc). Eat in local restaurants and not in touristics one pizza and spaghetti.
Tschu195 Gutierrez I agree he’s eating non Peruvian food lol
Exactly
He is right, European food tastes bad.
@@Santiago-5107 European food is good, in Europe. Elsewhere you'll find only pineapple pizzas and pasta with potatoes o even milk sauces....
Lomo saltado looks so nice I can't believe Harald never tried local food
I love how Harald is complaining about the food in Peru when I have seen him eat very little REAL Peruvian food. You are missing out my friend.. Lomo saltado, Chupe de mariscos arroz chaufa, picarones. Peru is actualy considered one of the most gastronomic countries in South america.
Love ceviche, caldo de gallina, picarones, lomo saltado, choclo, chicharron de pescado, pollo a la brasa, papa a la huancaina, causa rellena, etc......
I think he avoids some local foods as it makes him unwell
@@GrandDawggy Could well be, but his statement that Peruvian food is one of the worst he's had without trying it, is based off two bad dishes hes ordered. Haha I guess I'm slightly more adventurous eatingwise than old Harald is. My partner is from Lima, Peru. I absolutely love the country though. Lots of history, culture, breathtaking views and the people are very friendly.
@@lovelysecret7902 haha you named some good dishes
@Felipe Malaga Z. omg ,so Harald is coming to Peru and he must to know what is picarones, arroz chaufa, Lomo saltado....common, how many countries did you critics visit and did you know ,their best food? I will ask you, what is the best food in Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Czech republic, Hungary.....let Harald to be Harald and just because he order Burger is not very good eating culture? wtf you talking about?
A lot of people saying Peru is their favourite so far. I feel like you are just getting better and better at entertaining us Harold. Love from Canada
Oh nooooo! "River or sewer? Either way I'm down for a swim." Harald Baldr 2019
The water looks like it's coming straight from the mountains. I think is clean for a swim and probably very cold.
Im really liking this pace harald. No more boring nights!!!! Happy days.
Yeah me too
I'm amazed and delighted that water still flows in those old places. It gives me an impression of movement and life. Cheers.
Hi Harald, the food thing interesting in Peru, since it is now one of the leading countries in fine dining, but in terms of local, traditional food, it can be pretty tricky. My suggestion is to stay away from international cuisine there (pizzas, pastas, etc) and look for some local plates, like lomo saltado (steak strips with fried potato and rice, which can be really delicious) 🙂
I agree, I try to avoid typical Western food when abroad. Eat local meals
My neighborhood is filled with Peruvian Asian Fusion restaurants!
I have been to Peru many times, but I get sick after eating ceviche every time I eat it there. i eat ceviche in the US all the time because I have a Peruvian wife. My entire family got food poisoning after eating ceviche at a nice restaurant in Mira Flores the day we were returning. That was the most miserable flight home you could imagine.
Go to Maras. It's a salt farm that the Incas used. Go. It's pretty cool. It's close to where you're at now
second this! its a cool experience.
Peru looks like a really fun place to explore
marcus mardis look at the riskmap 2020 only natural for these beautiful homogeneous countrys and landscapes
It's nice to see a place that's not covered with garbage everywhere
I think you are influenced by incredible India 😂
Right ..india was filthy
@Josh B bro I'll literally take up for India, but the USA is not the cause for their trash😂🤦🏻♂️
@Josh B didn't know that man, thanks for the information! I totally just assumed there was alot of littering and shit. Mind if I ask what you do?
@Josh B Still no excuse for some much litter in the streets.
"Most men do like to finish inside but Im an outside man!"
Mucho mucho Progressivo Harald😅
Yeah most men prefer a deep injection.
Harald complains about bad European food in south america :D
Sounds like he's eating at the tourist restaurants and doesn't know what to order. Peru has awesome food
When he ordered like a local, he enjoyed his meal. guinne pig for every meal.
Either he's going to tourist ripoff places or ordering European dishes. I mean, common, you know its pretty bad there, don't expect a pizza like in Florence or napoli.
Harold, try local food for Jeffaldo's sake!!
peru has some of the best food dont complain harry!
@@toejamr1 Good point.
Harald: Do you speak English?
Horse: Neigh.
István Tobias well done
Harald list reasons to stay at the cabin Hotel..
Jeffaldo: Am I a joke to You?
As a peruvian girl this makes me so happy to see! I hope you’re having a great time there!
Ollantaytambo is amazing I really like the town and to go all the way up and the market also locals show you how to color cotton with natural colors.
Try to eat things from Peru, pizza is not our thing or junk food, you can also change rice for potatoes. Sorry I’m not telling you what to do, just a recommendation.
Why would anyone travel to a foreign country to eat "pizza"?
@@hoz49 Coz the local dishes aren't up to par (in the cities at least) HAve a food video coming up later today. A fantastic meal but it was not in a city
Harald Baldr not sure if you like corn 🌽 but Peru is famous for the great variety of corn and potatoes 🥔
Hoz Holla most of foreign people don’t trust food and they just comfortable with pizza 🍕 I seen this all the time. I was so surprised when I saw a maccas in Cusco 😱
@@HaraldBaldr Neither is the pizza! Hahahaha.
Thank you for another fantastic video Harald! I lost my leg in a motorcycle accident, so without your videos I would never be able to experience these sites. Thank you again and keep up the amazing work!
My favourite channel harald baldr man I really love to watch his all content can't thinking of day without a video from this channel so being your big fan I request you to upload daily videos so we can enjoy everyday as your subscriber I even watch all ads on your video so I can help you little like you do for poor or in need of help
This Peruvian series is just enthralling this should be part of the tourist information standard learning.
Explaining the history side of it has taken the whole thing to another level.
5:39 Derech-O means straight.
Derech-a means right
Harald just fyi: "During the siege of Cuzco, Francisco Pizarro had 200 Spaniards and 30,000 native Chankas, Huancas, Cañaris and Chachapoyas." So not that few man after all.
Harald all of your videos are great, but Peru so far the greatest. Thanks to you, now my family want to visit Peru next year. I really want to thank you for taking us into great journeys. Outstanding work as always.
Cheers for watching and hello to everyone in your family
Ever day I watch your Videos are after a 10 hours heavy duty metal work and have not much to say .. only that everyone is better then the last .. very educational in this one ...cheers Harald
Where's Jeffaldo? Did you just love him and leave him after a progressive one night stand?
Doubt you've watched the end of this vid yet
@@HaraldBaldr LOL, I hadn't yet. I retract my accusation. Love prevails!
No doubt that Heraldo is all about love. He is now friend of cat. 😁

Your Peru series of videos are awesome Harald! Peru was always on my bucket list, now more than ever.
I just finished my nursing finals yesterday and I’m watching the Peru series on loop. Loving it🇵🇪
People back in Incan times must have been in pretty good shape just to be climbing to get anywhere or build something up in those mountains! Very scenic!!!!
OMG Harald, what an amazing adventure this is turning out to be.. those ruins are just incredible!
I don't understand but is so interesting to watch this...From Perú
Unbelievable coverage !! The Peru session definitely turning to a milestone now....The work will remain an important documentary for archival !!!
22:10 WOW check out those giant carved stones he just walks past to cool that's OK I'm enjoying this video tour MUCH APPRECIATED HAROLD.
Thank you Harald! This trip is the best so far! Very impressed with your effort and research.
So many videos, you spoil us... Lot of us are very immersed and invested in this country right now :D haha
Jätte fint, tack för att filma och visa en del från PERÚ ❤️🇵🇪 muchas gracias amigo 🇧🇻
I should say that your almost every video was outstanding.... keep it up lots of love from India
Thank you! Appreciate that
that cloudy weather , definitely bring the good vibes ..gotta love it
You needed a drone man! Ollantaytambo's urbanistic layout can only be appreciated from the air.
Going X-country wearing Tim K trekking shoes, you're a brave man.
Thank you Harald to taking us to places that many of us will be never able to visit. I love history of Incas, what a amazing part of history.
These Peru escapades have been quite exceptional. I get the feeling that you never rest on your laurels when you visit any country. The work is always informative about the history of the places you visit and about the people who dwell there. Mix this in with the randomness of unplanned happenings and you have the makings of great video content. I also prefer the longer format videos that you do. It’s all subjective but I think 10-20 minute videos, never quite take you “into the place” one visits...or the people one meets along the way. I appreciate that you allow your videos to breathe and slowly stew.
I got to be honest with you Harold. It took me a while for me to get used to your humour and your general personality. At first I thought you quite cold but first impressions can be deceiving. The coldness was in fact a wonderfully dry sense of humour...a chilled way of being relatable to the people you meet. I never get the feeling you are being a false version of yourself. I never get the feeling you are a performing Monkey for the camera either.😂...and anyone who wants to do what you do should be inspired by that.
You genuinely care about the people and the animals you meet👌. The Cat vlog was a perfect example of improvised, unplanned footage...and you tail end that video(pun intended)...with this video. Just simple natural interactions with life...the things you cannot write or for that matter quite prepare for. You are not afraid to be critical when needs be which is also important for an honest, constructive dialogue. Even so, your work still remains the “right side” of sensitive with respect to the cultures you encounter.
Finally...I would love to see you do videos in England(Great Britain). Get your perspective on the many diverse places and cultures that our great country has to offer. Either way...Please keep up the brilliant work.x
So much labor moving and building with stones. Must have taken them decades or ongoing 100s of years.
Definitely one of my fave series you have produced Haroldo. Can never get enough of the history and ruins. Add on all those tasteful innuendos near the end, a love song and some pics of Jeffaldo at the end. What more could us followers ask for!! Burundi
1 of the best videos!! Thanks man. Very exciting to watch.
Pizza, Bolognese ? You are in the Andes Harald, not in Naples/Italy
!
It's a pepperoni
The Peru series is totally epic
Awesome harald 👍 keep us informed about Peru history is awesome thank you for all you're hard work exploring different things in Peru 🇵🇪, very interesting 💪👍💪
Cheers for watching Brian!
Thank you harold for your time, and making sure our time spent with you is educational.👍
Harald!!! It's so incredibly strange that you only eat international dishes, and then you complain about the food in Peru. You don't even eat Peruvian food..
Actually the Peruvian food can be truly amazing and has gained an international recognition lately. If you continue your trip heading to the coast and the capital you must try some awesome Peruvian dishes.
What consists of Peruvian food??
Go to Chinchero next, it's a beautiful town, quite well known for its textiles since the time of the Incas, massive foundations of Inca palaces still can be seen on the place, there's also a trek beginning from Chinchero to the ruins Huchuy Qosqo, the trek alone is really out of this world and ruins of Huchuy Qosqo are plus.
Your travels and blogs have taught us so much history of places we would not have known. Greatly appreciated.
I never wanted too go too peru until I've watched your videos here but now ill add it too my list..
Harald: Do you speak English?
Horse: No pendejo.
Jajaja
Peru is a world class destination for food, you're missing out opportunities to try unique local food, it makes no sense to order spaguetti bolognese, pizza, whoppers deep in Peru's country side valleys.
Exactly!
@-- to be fair, cusco style of roasting guinea pig is not great. There's other dished with guinea pig that are delicious! but cusco roasted guinea pig isn't.
I would rather have some Ritz peanut butter crackers..
Harald your hair looks very good. 👌 Peru is absolutely beautiful and interesting.
I appreciate your quick uploads Harald, loving your videos. It’s nice to wake up and have a coffee while watching your vlogs.
I've been learning a lot from you. You make history fun and interesting.. 👍🙌

23:04 "gotta confuse the algorithm, right babe?".. That's a reference to Rich Piana, God bless him. How tha hell do you know him? Wow. Nice. I was very surprised to hear you say that. Very progressive from you
Would never thought Harold knew of Rich piana
So much history very enjoyable. Thanks. Love the Cat
Nice trip. Thank you for share it 🥰
Perú has one of the best foods/cuisine in the world, somehow Harold manages to get the worst every time. Not mucho progressivo!
Joseph Juan Aliaga Valenzuela hahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Yes, we Peruvians are terrible cooking foreigns food such pizza, steaks and hamburgers, but that's exactly what he's constantly asking for lol. While in Peru, you should try the local food, specially seafood!
You walked right by the huge stones that are the main attraction
Wow! That place is amazing and love the hotel. Thanks again, Harald. "lts raining muffs" hahaha. Your humour kills me. Jeffaldo really takes a liking to you and hes a good spirited cat.

Shawna Varganyi agree w you Shawna, when visit a country at least try local food. Peru is the land of best food in latin America.
he may have gotten sick of the local food being bad so he tried pizza and pasta :)
I mean, if they can't even cook a pizza right i don't they will be able to cook anything else, no offense, but if they can make famous food right being easy, what else can you expect.
Hey harald Peru has one of the best cuisines in the world give some of the native food a chance like ceviche, pollo la brasa, lomo Saltado , and arroz chaufa to name a few
Thanks baldr. Another awesome video. Your videos give me hope bro. Goin through some tuff stuff atm.
hallelujah it's raining muff hallelujah its raning MUFF. absolutely sublime.. you are my idol harald baldiary the muff machine / magnet
You need to have local food man, pizza and pasta aint authentic cuisine in peru. You're ordering the wrong meals.
What should I order?
1.- Comida criolla = dishes from the peruvian coast ( ex : lomo saltado, causa rellena, aji de gallina, seco de pollo, etc)
2.- Chifa = dishes with a fusion between Peruvian cuisine and Chinese cuisine (ex: arroz chaufa, tipakay, etc)
3.- Pollo a la brasa = peruvian roasted chicken.
4.- peruvian sea food = ex: Ceviche, jalea, parihuela , etc.
What he said haha. Number 1 and 2. Definitely. Im sure you will eventually find a solid place that is progressive towards your stomach.
@@HaraldBaldr you need Andean style chicharrònes - roast belly pork. Absolutely divine
At Tambo Colorado, which I keep going on about, we learned that the Inca would have his dwelling in the largest part at the top, and the society would all live in a room per family, with the more important people having a larger room. They had a communal hall to eat in, as we northern Europeans did.
5:45 "derecha" means "right", "derecho" means "straight on". He said "that wooden door on the right".

I would not get to see this country if not for your videos. Very nice and I like the shopping experience that you did. I discovered your videos from watching Bald. I like both because its like I am walking with you and at 69 I couldn't make those walking trips if I could to that country.
The more I see of your Peruvian adventures the more I wonder at how a few cavalry and footsoldiers could succeed in such terrain and altitude. History favours the victors and all that!
Harald why don’t you try more local food instead of pizza and such? Ps I love you 😍😆
