Imagine Emperor Manco Capac riding his white horse on the Fortress extolling his warriors on against the Spanish. Ollantaytambo was the last battle the Inca won. Manco Capac retreated to Villcabamba from here, was eventually hunted down, and murdered.

@@Africanvillageactivities The fall of Manco Capac is a heartbreaking story. He and his wife were hounded from Villcabamba, betrayed by Spanish who had killed Francisco Pizzaro and were hiding under the protection of the Inca Emperor. His wife (also his sister) was stolen, raped and murdered by the Spanish. Her body was placed in a basket and sent down the river. To be found by the Emperor. Manco Capac was eventually discovered hiding around a dismal campfire in the jungle to be tortured and assassinated.

Peru has an unbelivable amount of ruins. If you go to the coast, you can see pyramids and cities of the Moche and Chimu cultures, as well as the Nazca. There's also the 4,000 year old Norte Chico civilization, the oldest in the Americas. Their hub is the city of Caral, which lies in the Supe Valley (Supe, Barranca Province).

Hi Harald, the food thing interesting in Peru, since it is now one of the leading countries in fine dining, but in terms of local, traditional food, it can be pretty tricky. My suggestion is to stay away from international cuisine there (pizzas, pastas, etc) and look for some local plates, like lomo saltado (steak strips with fried potato and rice, which can be really delicious) 🙂

These Peru escapades have been quite exceptional. I get the feeling that you never rest on your laurels when you visit any country. The work is always informative about the history of the places you visit and about the people who dwell there. Mix this in with the randomness of unplanned happenings and you have the makings of great video content. I also prefer the longer format videos that you do. It’s all subjective but I think 10-20 minute videos, never quite take you “into the place” one visits...or the people one meets along the way. I appreciate that you allow your videos to breathe and slowly stew.
I got to be honest with you Harold. It took me a while for me to get used to your humour and your general personality. At first I thought you quite cold but first impressions can be deceiving. The coldness was in fact a wonderfully dry sense of humour...a chilled way of being relatable to the people you meet. I never get the feeling you are being a false version of yourself. I never get the feeling you are a performing Monkey for the camera either.😂...and anyone who wants to do what you do should be inspired by that.
You genuinely care about the people and the animals you meet👌. The Cat vlog was a perfect example of improvised, unplanned footage...and you tail end that video(pun intended)...with this video. Just simple natural interactions with life...the things you cannot write or for that matter quite prepare for. You are not afraid to be critical when needs be which is also important for an honest, constructive dialogue. Even so, your work still remains the “right side” of sensitive with respect to the cultures you encounter.
Finally...I would love to see you do videos in England(Great Britain). Get your perspective on the many diverse places and cultures that our great country has to offer. Either way...Please keep up the brilliant work.x

I'm in the midst of a Jeffaldo hangover after finally having some time to watch your dinner video with that darling furball last night. This site is really nice. I agree with your ratings of the three sites you've visted. Pisac was so epic that you can't really compare to it. I loved seeing you climb some more Inca steps, although they seemed much tamer than the ones at Pisac where you had to use your Spidey skills to summit them. It was great to see you pan the area at the end so everyone could get an idea of the scope of the dwellings in comparison with the valley. Beautiful! I was surprised that you didn't curse Tim K and his trekking shoes for a change. I was hald expecting it. Did you replace them or was the hike not challenging enough to warrant the comment 😉

Most interesting part of this vlog is the pre-inca megalithic stones. Especially at about 23.30. Where were they quarried and how did they get them there? Simply amazing. Thanks for doing that climb for us. I have seen many such stones on the net all around the world, but seeing these on the side of a mountain that high up boggles the mind. You should do a little research on those. Would make a great story to tell. Thanks again Harold

The quarries for Ollantaytambo are across the river, high on the mountain. One can hike up there and see many "walking stones", partially worked stones that were abandoned on the way to Ollantaytambo.

At Tambo Colorado, which I keep going on about, we learned that the Inca would have his dwelling in the largest part at the top, and the society would all live in a room per family, with the more important people having a larger room. They had a communal hall to eat in, as we northern Europeans did.
