Thank you for this video I’m dressing up as Maleficent for Halloween this year and I did not know how to do the wings! This helped so much!! Thank you!❤️
Omg I bought the same wings and a bunch of feathers but didn’t know where to start and I found this video of you doing the exact same thing. Thank you !!
thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial ! I followed it for one of my cosplays and it looks amazing, the only issue (and I can see you have the same problem) is that the wings don't unfold/spread as much because it becomes too heavy, I have yet to find a way to help with that !
I have to yank on the cords and they will fully extend but it's a pain. I still love them though, and I am so so happy this helped you!! I'm going to be making my second pair soon and I can't wait. XD
If you only use the larger primary feathers along the bottom edge, and then lighter (smaller) feathers for the secondaries and coverts you'll reduce the weight a lot. Another thing I see a lot of people doing, which is incorrect, is doubling up the primaries at the bottom edge - putting a row of primaries on the front and back. That's not how wings work. Also if you trim the primary quills down you'll save on weight; leave enough that you can properly secure them, but not so much that you have inches of bare quill.
I would say as long as they have a fabric base that you can attach your feathers/fabric to you'll be good. I prefer the Rubie wings (there are 3 different types but are all the same base structure) because of the size. I find a lot of the cheap wings you can buy tend to be a lot smaller and for what I needed I wanted big wings xD
so im working on some wings for a cosplay, and my stupid self cant understand much of this video, can you plz do me a favour and list the materials in the replies?? thank you, i've been losing my mind while looking for tutorials and this one actually sounds doable,

@@beckymurphy4714 Do the Primaries only go on the back then, and then I do the smaller lighter feathers on the front?

ICARUS! GET AWAY FROM THE SUN!
Can I ask a question please ?
Well I guess it’s a yes for me :D
So what is the fabric paint the black one you used on the wings ?
I used tulip! That's just what I have locally, but any paint made specifically for fabric will work as long as it dries flexible.
@@yubyubcommander thank you for responding! :D
Im a little late but do you think I could use any wings like that? Or does it have to be that specific one?

@@yubyubcommander okay thank you sm!!!
Around how many feathers did it take
I listed it in the description with the links to the feathers~
But roughly 350 "primary" feathers and 50-ish down feathers.

I actually listed and linked all the materials in the description (minus the hot glue gun cause my hot glue gun is from a yard sale, lol)
@@yubyubcommander ohhhh okay, thanks!
@@HeadInSpace You're welcome! Let me know if you have any questions.
not using this for cosplay or anything, i just really want wings 😂
BIG MOOD
LOL, I wouldn't recommend trying to fly with these!
@@richallenxbox1976 but what if someone wants their Icarus moment 😂
@@yubyubcommander I'd like to think (hope) that even in North America nobody's daft enough to actually try that!
@@richallenxbox1976 I live in the South. I do not doubt the stupidity of mankind XD
