54 days before the eruption
KGW sent a team of journalists to Mount St. Helens to document the area as seismic activity had increased. This video shows the mountain in it's full majesty on a clear day and very clearly shows the tell-tale cracks in the surface of the snow that illustrate the seismic activity that was occurring and the resulting earthquakes.
Most of this video is scenic b-roll that was used to create stories for newscasts. Also shown in the video is much of the forest that was decimated in the explosion and eruption of the volcano.
At 2:15 into the video you will see instructions left for back-country climbers that note the frequency of earthquakes occurring on the mountain, and the warning to everyone about the possibility of avalanches.
At 2:55 there is an interview with a state worker who experienced the quakes and was apprehensive about seeing the expected eruption.

I remember when it used to look like this up there. So pristine, unspoiled, and majestic . I sorely miss it.
Very sharp analog film . Nature is the best , she doesn't bend to trends , beautiful no matter what ...and when she gets angry , she settles back down and becomes beautiful again. Can't say the same for humans . We need to look at life as a ride , not something to control.

How us humans are drawn to volcanos. Our logic to stay away is totally gone.
