I have to say I'm very happy to hear a huge change in tone regarding Russia - Ukraine war. Just as any other conflict, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukr has been in the makings for at least a decade, and while Putin has shown little mercy with innocent civilians, Ukranian leadership bears a huge amount of responsibility in what's been going on. Poroshenko and Zelensky should have met the Minsk Agreements and reunited Eastern Ukraine after a nice, educated, respectfull and generous settlement with Donetsk and Lugansk. Declaring those territories "terrorist entities" and sending in the Ukrainian professional army was certainly not a constructive option and, in the long run, is playing out to be absolutely contrary to Ukrainian interests. Unfortunately, there is no going back, today I think partition will be the only way forward, certainly the quickest and easiest path to stop the killing of human lives. And I'm glad to hear Bremmer feels that way too, after almost two years of hearing him unleashing anti - Russian propaganda that has brought us nowhere.

If he'd gone back millennia, he'd have had to contend with the historic claims of the Jewish People to the ancient Kingdoms of Judea and Samaria. But, no. His views on China are seriously infantile. He reiterates comments that far more nuanced observers have been making for years. He doesn't look at the underlying problems with China that have been seriously existent since the Han Dynasty in circa 205 B.C. He spends a good 10 minutes discussing China's economic issues through a narrow prism of Western economic thinking. Chinese leaders have never thought in such terms. They think in terms of generations. The blip in Chinese economic growth was entirely due to Western economic investment in a developing country with low labour costs. Those days are over. Just as they ended for the Azores for after the 16tth century when the West Indies were discovered by Europeans. Just as the West Indies in the 18th and 19th century ended after the end of slavery (and cheap labour). Just as the South of the U.S. has become an economic backwater following the Civil War. Just as Japan has suffered several decades of static growth after the emergence of the other Asian Tigers. Seriously. This guy. Just don't bother. I tried, but his knowledge is so shallow, and his assessments and insight is almost negligent.

I couldn't care if he disputed the impact of the Sykes-Picot agreement, or if he disputed the shared historical remembrance of the three Abrahamic religions as recorded in their respective holy texts. I'd even listen to him if he started talking about the murky past of 1948 and what or what did not happen. Yet he starts his analysis without any semblance of context. It is kind of like suggesting that you should only observe China's behaviour through the prism of Xi Jinping's premiership. When any moderately serious scholar understands you need to go back centuries to understand Chinese culture and their attitudes so as to understand current events. all he talked about are symptoms, the global world order is dysfunctional, it no longer works for everyone. The hegemony US with 25% of global economy controls much of the International institute and media and strategic military choke point, is no longer sustainable. Take an example, UK, a close US ally, is too weak to be permanent member for UNSC, so UK can not contribute to the world peace and prosperity.
The global South is much more stronger, and demands more say on the world affairs.. India should take UK's role in UNSC, IMF and world bank needs to reform, US needs to retreat its military from Russia, India and China door step,
There is a lot of risk for a global conflict or war, if US does not want to cooperate with emerging powers,

Such a slight of hand to focus on only a handful of years to focus on the "Israeli/Palestinian".
Particularly as the crucial argument that the Palestinians make is that they were evicted from their own land.
If he'd gone back a decade or two, he would have had to contend with the fact that none of Israel's Arab neighbours have ever supported the "refugees" in Gaza and the West Bank. That's because Arabs don't recognise the Palestinians as Arabic.
If he'd gone back a century, he'd have had to contend with the fact that "Palestine" was inhabited with less than or around 1 million people. It was an empty barren wasteland. He would have had to contend with the U.N. resolution creating the Israeli state. Contend with the fact Israel invited actively Arabic residents to become Israeli citizens. Contend with the fact that Israel has since 1948 offered significant territory for a Palestinian State and that they have refused entirely. Anyone arguing all Israel needs to do is offer the Palestinians a state is completely clueless.
If he'd gone back millennia, he'd have had to contend with the historic claims of the Jewish People to the ancient Kingdoms of Judea and Samaria.
But, no. He makes ridiculous arguments based on a microscopic view of history. To remind folk: When you refuse to understand history you are likely to repeat it. This guy seriously needs to be ignored.
His views on China are seriously infantile. He reiterates comments that far more nuanced observers have been making for years. He doesn't look at the underlying problems with China that have been seriously existent since the Han Dynasty in circa 205 B.C. He spends a good 10 minutes discussing China's economic issues through a narrow prism of Western economic thinking. Chinese leaders have never thought in such terms. They think in terms of generations. The blip in Chinese economic growth was entirely due to Western economic investment in a developing country with low labour costs. Those days are over. Just as they ended for the Azores for after the 16tth century when the West Indies were discovered by Europeans. Just as the West Indies in the 18th and 19th century ended after the end of slavery (and cheap labour). Just as the South of the U.S. has become an economic backwater following the Civil War. Just as Japan has suffered several decades of static growth after the emergence of the other Asian Tigers.
Seriously. This guy. Just don't bother. I tried, but his knowledge is so shallow, and his assessments and insight is almost negligent.

@@seanhealy4873 Yeah, I do. This is a long standing conflict. The only people who focus on a handful of years are those who refuse to debate or accept the history of the middle east. I couldn't care if he disputed the impact of the Sykes-Picot agreement, or if he disputed the shared historical remembrance of the three Abrahamic religions as recorded in their respective holy texts. I'd even listen to him if he started talking about the murky past of 1948 and what or what did not happen. Yet he starts his analysis without any semblance of context. It is kind of like suggesting that you should only observe China's behaviour through the prism of Xi Jinping's premiership. When any moderately serious scholar understands you need to go back centuries to understand Chinese culture and their attitudes so as to understand current events.
At it's best, he is displaying pure ignorance. At it's worst it is deliberate sophistry designed to make a political point rather than add to a meaningful debate.
@karleaves1728 again I will say his talk is about what might happen in the next few years, he can't be expected to flesh out the long history or every region in a 1hr talk. And if you seriously think his views should be ignored then I can only imagine how many other commentators you may put in that category

Let's make judgements on the U.S. based solely on the Trumpian years. Let's focus on Europe without considering WW2. To deliberately evade the context, it's either
a) idiotic, or
b) deliberately misleading.
Either way, he doesn't deserve being listened to. You can take your pick of a) or b).

Did you ever learn about the holocaust? Do you understand the diaspora? Do you understand what happened after the U.N. (for god's sake, one of the few times I will call that as an authority) partitioned Trans-Jordan to create three separate states, including a tiny state for those Jews who hadn't been gassed, shot or murdered in Europe... And the response? Six Arabic States invade on the first day of the declaration of the state. Even though the nascent Israeli state extended a hand of friendship, of citizenship and of peace to any and all non-Jews living in the new borders (noting that today there are a number of Arab-Israeli's in the Knesset.)
The state of Israel, the U.N. and the international community have repeatedly offered the creation of a "Palestinian state". The only people who never agree are the Palestinians. To quote Yasser Arafat "I don't want to be the Mayor of Jericho".
Meanwhile, the state of Israel and its leaders have been positive actors in any and all peace talks that have happened.
My point remains. If you have no idea of history - which you seem to be promoting in this case - then you have absolutely no chance to make things better. To quote Einstein: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
So I am actually being generous in this context. One of two cases are the fact. Bremmer is either insane or a bad actor. Either way, he ought to be discarded and ignored.
