The curse of being a child of the ‘60s: I am on holiday in Aruba, at the market, stocking the apartment with stuff for lunch and I came across a small tube of liverwurst. I haven’t had liverwurst in years, but I tossed it in the cart. As I roamed around the store, I realized I was unconsciously singing “When you go to the delicatessen store, don’t buy the liverwurst’ over and over again. It’s been 60+ years since I first heard that album in my parents’ living room, but the lyrics are etched in my brain forever, but can someone tell me why I can’t remember my Citibank password?
Interesting coincidence that reading your comment today it was just YESTERDAY, while at the kitchen sink rinsing off some dishes, I was singing the Camp Granada song! Did the whole song and I'm pretty sure I only misremembered/ messed up a couple of words. Funny then, still funny now.
I remember singing this in girl scout camp back in the day...we sang it in a different tempo, and some of the words were a little different...but basically, it's the same song...

😂😂😂I work in the deli dept. of a supermarket. We actually go through a lot of liverwurst. I personally like it (and bologna) but don’t contemplate what’s in them. 😂😂😂
Never heard this song before....and I've been around for a while! I never liked liverwurst but (of course) my mother used to "encourage" (bribe) me to eat it. It was supposed to be good for you. Idk about that:((
Liverwurst or as we say in Germany Leberwurst is a sausage you can eat worm or cold, if it's a good quality. It#s produced with marjoram, tasty and fits together with mustard and sour pickles, we say Senf und Gurken. Maybe eating the liver of pigs doesn't sound healthy, but we don't eat this not too often. But I would miss ist, if threre would be no Leberwurst available.
My dad still sings this in the house. He’s 70

This should be the theme song for Boar's Head.
hahaha! I was thinking the same
The theme song for Boar's Head should be "don't buy anything Boar's Head because it tastes like dry ass plywood".
For those who don't know..... This is a parody of the folk song "Down by the riverside".
It was right on the tip of my tongue, I swear.... thank you!
Why is the liverwurst not good?
@@dododostenfiftyseven4096 Because it's May 23rd and it's been sitting there since October 1st. Listen to the lyrics again.
@@maxshenkwrites You're welcome.
Kosher version.
Once a year I am grateful to find this clip.
Actually uploaded on the 23rd of May... not bad!
There was a local radio dj when I was growing up who always played this on the 23rd of May. Makes the day stick in your head.
My dad claims to have sang this in front of his first-grade class in ‘64.
Incredible.
I sang it in front of my 4th grade class in 1988 lol
I came here, like so many others, because it's the 23rd of May.
Alan Sherman a brilliant advertising guy who made great song parodies. Thank you for posting
I loved this bit as a kid, everytime I eat liverwurst I remember this and laugh.
Every May 23rd since about 1978 has been a wishful holiday for me and some friends that get a kick out of this!!
What does that date have to do with Liverwurst??
@@susanneves986 It's been on the shelf since October 1st and "today " in the song is May 23rd.🙂

And today is the 23rd of May a year later!
Aaaaaaaand again! ha ha ha!
...and on and on it goes.
I still get a laugh out of this song😅
For sone reason I woke up with this song in my head. Glad to be a Boomer.
I ate fried shrimp from some new Hawaiian restaurant today. Let's just say it was like the Liverwurst.
Love this thanks for posting separate from the rest of the compilation song.
Guess I'll have to pass that up.

I really like braunschweiger but because of my cholesterol I only allow myself to indulge twice a year. October 1 and May 23.
My mother used to "urge" me to try both liverwurst and braunschweiger...I didn't like either one but the latter was a little less gross.

To all the weird Al fan: He was great at parody songs and I enjoyed his work, but Allan Sherman did it first.
Weird Al before Weird Al

Happy may 23
It's the 23rd of May. Going to the deli. What should I Get?
