I love vintage looks, from the early 1900s to the '70s. When I was starting to get interested in the genre I was lucky enough to meet and talk for some time with the most famous of Hollywood portrait photographers, George Hurrell. I learned quite a bit about lighting talking with him as he used these huge sepia prints as examples. To answer the question, I would use any Godox light in a way Hurrell himself might, whether that be dark and dramatic look for say a male portrait, or light and airy for a female portrait. I don't like to repeat my looks so having something versatile like the AD100 with its magnetic snap on modifiers and light weight is a godsend. (have you ever had to work with a heavy battery powered speedlight? I did for 20 years. They were exhausting and dumb. Wrestling around one of those for 4-8 hours can wear you out like a day at the gym.) THAT is one of the main things I like about the AD100 and AD200, that they are light, powerful, as well as quick and easy to use, and having a good size system of accessories is a big plus too!

It's hard to decide between a dark dramatic look or a soft look, it depends so much on the subject but if the subject suited the look I would go dark and dramatic, reminiscent of the classic portraits of George Hurrell. Those portraits always captured my imagination and drove me to push the boundaries of what I do with lighting.
