Great video! Legal protection for blogs or any online business is super important, so thanks for sharing your experience and tips, Sophia! Also I appreciate you using and recommending my legal templates and bundles ❤
Honestly. When you were first starting out, did you ever just feel completely overwhelmed by it all? How did you handle those feelings? I am a list maker myself, and I feel like my to-do list is a mile long. I really love your channel and feel like any advice you have could be very helpful to me. xoxo
I received this advice from my therapist regarding last month in my life planning out my move from Canada to Germany and wanting to get a load of things done prior to the one month I had until the move. On top of that I had a scary health issue that had come up. My therapist told me to just break down everything. Your list into smaller steps. And those steps into smaller steps. And focus on what you can complete now, what’s in your control now. You can of course think about the big picture but that’s what gets us overwhelmed a lot of times. So try breaking things down into the smallest steps and focus on the present moment, day by day, hour by hour. Hopefully that helps.
More details please. - Getting sued for what actually? - Why does the Disclaimer/Terms/Policies needs to be written by a lawyer and not by own self? - How does tax/feds/gov knows how money you’re making before and after getting a LLC/LTD ? - Why does a blog needs a Trademark ? Thank you. Would be supper happy to get answers for my questions.
1:52 You should at least do a trademark clearance search right at the beginning and even before you launch to make sure the name you want to use is not owned by someone else 🙏🙏 or else you could get sued for infringement and your tm application can be denied. You could have to start over with a new name, domain, marketing and everything! And pay profits to the owner. PS Such a lawyer lovely blazer! 😍
It is important to know that trademark law is slightly ambiguous. Whoever has the name first in the industry is the legal owner by common law trademarks. So if the name has "Siren" any form of Siren Lashes, Siren Beauty, Siren Styles, etc. would most likely need to refer to whoever had the name first. In the case of suing. And it would take a lot of money to sue, purely to have the name dropped. At least that's what I understand from the lawyer I spoke to. Still important to do a trademark search but just because a name isn't trademarked doesn't mean it doesn't technically belong to another business.
Hello Sophia, Do I need written permission to add product images (screenshotted from a brand website) into a collage for my blog and social media? (of course, while adding the product links and sourcing the brand website). Can you make an in-depth video about using images from brands for blogs and sources to find images? Thank You!
Hi Sophia! I ordered the legal bundle and want to know where you place the disclaimers, terms of use, etc. Can I just have a link at the bottom of all of my blog pages? Thanks, Di
You probably shouldn’t create the LLC until you actually make money. In ca the business tax fee is $800 for the year doesn’t matter when you started (even if you start in December you pay for the full year) or how much money you made.
@@NathanAponte you could be proactive and then quit blogging a few months in like so many people do an your still stuck with a bill of $800 even if you only made sense
@@NathanAponte of course you want to go into it with the best intentions and most people do doesn’t mean it works out that way for one reason or another
Thanks Sophia, hardly anybody ever mentions this side of business but it can be a costly mistake if ignored. There are books written on these kinds of things which is where I get most of my information. The price of one of those books could save someone potentially thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of work if they end up having their business shut down as I've seen happen with at least one person on this platform in the last 2 years.
@@rhondaprice4805 I'm referring to a more general type book for entrepreneurs that cover many other topics, books like: Working for Yourself: Law & Taxes for Independent Contractors, Freelancers & Gig Workers of All Types by Stephen Fishman J.D. | Jan 18, 2022, and if your in the music industry then it should be specifically on the music industry I think the bit on legal pages for bloggers is covered pretty well on blogs on this topic and there is a lot of information about it but to me its quite confusing and i don't believe there are very many good books writing on this specifically but I could be wrong. The case I was referring to was a person who did not check to see if the name of they had chosen for their business was already being used and it was and so later they had to basically change their business name after close to a years worth of work and as far as I could see that pretty much ended that attempt at going into business so a $25 dollar book if they had bought it and read it before starting their business they would have avoided this problem that probably cost them besides having to redo all their media legal fees possibly and others lost income would be my guess.

This is my biggest concern about starting a blog
Have you ever started a non-profit online news website?
Me too!
Wow! Thank you! My blog launches within the next three weeks. I’m going to look into this bundle ASAP!
Can you do a video on where to get photos from your blog and how to use photos/ ask permission etc?
This would be super helpful for me too!

How about business insurances? If one does get sued, despite all precautions, you know?
What if you live overseas? I live in Romania now, are the legal rules different?

Yes

You’re lawyer specialized in lawyers?
I think she meant specializes in helping bloggers not lawyers.
