my lover and I used to lay in bed on Sunday mornings, drinking coffee and listening to the Twins, as it turned out, he was Toxic for me....................... Broke my heart badly, listening to this brings back many memories, both wonderful and painful at the same time.
I'm passing through a broken relationship with my first gf ever, I used to listen to Twins with her.. its sad how things ended up. I waited 13 years to met and love someone, I fully gave my heart to her, I never had anyone and never wanted anyone until she came from nowhere and took my heart.
My Father just died and my Mother a few years ago. This song is painful haven't heard it since when it was popular on local alt radio and it's a very bittersweet sounding song indeed. Of course in '91 Mum and Dad were well and going concerns and this song is spinning me back to that time and it hurts so much to remember now they are gone for good.. The beauty and power of music I guess.
yes it's a super evocative tune and i indeed feel what you are feeling. i'm an atheist but believe in an after life (weird i know)... it's a belief i hold for comfort's sake alone but i hold to it dearly. the hereafter doesn't have to be eternal as far as i'm concerned, but i gotta believe i will see my folks then - on the other side. and for everyone in this world, i hope that any pain or uncertainty felt in this life, would be mended on the other side. though i've had a pretty good life all in all. anyway, thank you for your comment
Nobody sounds like this band. Totally original. As good as anyone else. What a sign off album too. If no one is buying at this point, sad, but the world's loss - god bless them for gifting this music to the world!
I hope one day I can be as happy as Liz looks when singing and dancing. So free, so in the moment, so ... joyous. Would that we all be able to dance whenever we want.
THERE IS NOBODY LIKE ELIZABETH FRAZER. SHE'S AN ANGEL, AND HER MUSIC HAS HELPED ME GET THROUGH A VERY TOUGH LIFE SINCE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD HER VOICE AT CAFE' FLORE IN SAN FRANCISCO. SHE CALMS ME, MAKES ME LAUGH AND CRY, FEEL CALM AND STIR ALL MY EMOTIONS. HER VOICE, THE SONGS AND GIFT OF HER SIGNING FOR ME, IT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE BIGGEST PRIVILEGES OF MY LIFE. GOD BLESS YOU ELIZABETH. THANK YOU. GRACE BE WITH YOU.
I remember seeing this on MTV at the time, and it fit so perfectly with their music. Liz looks like something from a dream or fairy tale, like a celestial pixie. My favorite video of theirs.
Heard this song from a mix cd in the 90s. Lost the cd but I remembed this song my mind. No one can forget that voice matched with the guitar sound. So happy I've found this song again. Been looking for it for over 20 years.
Man...when she hits those high backing vocal notes! It's like an angel singing! You know, I really think that secondary background vocal track she lays on this song is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. And I've been a fan for over 20yrs. and saw them live here in Los Angeles when I was 18. JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!
Haunting, Atmospheric, Ethereal...man, this band always made me feel better during my turbulent 20's back in the 80's! Now, I am rediscovering them as I enter my 50's! We are probably the same age!
Special, unique, original, emotional, emotive, cool and never to be repeated! Shame. However enjoy the legacy!!! Liz Fraser totally underestimated ! love to CT !
All of their songs pull on my heart strings reminding me of a time when family relatives were alive and well and my childhood, dream pop, they do it best
She truly is a healing sound, for what seems like a horrible relatatioship. Regardless magical, healing, been listening for such a long time. Is soothing after my chemotherapy, Are U toxic For ME? Been fightin the big c and she soothes my soul.
an old lover turned me on to the Cocteau twins many years ago, we would lay in bed on Sunday mornings listening to them, drinking good coffee and just being so in love with each other and the moment. He ended up breaking my heart in so many ways I never thought I'd be "ok" again, I've moved on, but I'll never love someone as much or as deeply as I loved him. You crushed my heart Scott, but I've forgiven you, and I'm thankful for the moment we had
The Cocteau Twins where the most incredible band that has influenced so meany of the alternative & ambient music that we hear today . I was very lucky to see them live at the Cameo Theater on Miami Beach back in 94 ! What a concert that was !
Blue Beard is my favorite. Have listened & loved your voice & music for over 20 years now. Elizabeth you have one of the most gifted voices & I'm blessed to know it. Thanks for sharing it ;)
Incredible. The music was written by Gutrhrie in one of her lowest moments when he was a real hopeless junkie. It's funny how he could create such an optimistic and beautiful song. And the lyrics, well... Just when Liz and Robin were breaking up and she is so direct on this one about that. Anyway, fantastic and gorgeous song by one of the best bands ever!!
Search for "cocteau twins song to the siren live" and make sure it's the one with the intro that says "Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren." Really highlights her vocal ability.
When I first heard the Cocteau Twins I could have walked on air they were so uplifting, but now I could almost cry because those days are long gone. The 80,'s were a fantasic time to be around
I find it so cute that when Elizabeth looks back on this time, she says "I started smoking pot.. I shouldn't have smoked pot!" Meanwhile her ex was a heavy alcoholic and on heavier drugs like speed. No judgement on any of them, but... just kinda funny. :-) Yes he was toxic for you, and you were for him. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.
Yeah its ok. But this is more poppy, accesible, almost commercial Cocteaus. I prefer 4AD, dark, ethereal Cocteaus like from Moon and the melodies album
Well said!! This is the first song I heard of the Cocteau Twins in the early 90's and I instantly fell in love with this band. The Cocteau Twins sound is the vibration of heaven on earth!!!
Love at first listen. I still remember where I was when I first heard Bluebeard, a friend had bought the album (cassette) before I found it and without warning played it in his car while we were driving about. I was stunned. She was already one of my favorite lyricists, this sealed the deal and put her on top. She still holds that #1 spot.
The music is so soul-wrenchingly beautiful. They just don't make music like this anymore. The British bands were awesome in the 80s, that I don't think there will ever be such a wave of music in my lifetime. Anyway, it's so refreshing to hear great music from the era of the Culture Club, Prefab Sprout and the Style Council. Oh to be in the 20s again!
The title of the song is associated with a historical character named Gilles de Rais, he was a companion of Jeanne d'Arc. His deeds were spun into tales and myths in which he was called bluebeard, his beard had supposedly turned blue from the alchemic fumes he was hanging it in.
@@burningxdimx you’ve probably never been in a toxic relationship, that’s what this exactly is about and getting your heart out of a shell and being betrayed
I want all the 48 people who gave this a dislike to line up outside my office tomorrow morning for a good dressing down!! one of the most unique bands of all time and could listen to them all day long....and often do
"Four-Calendar Cafe" is one of the best albums of the 1990s. Superb all around.
my lover and I used to lay in bed on Sunday mornings, drinking coffee and listening to the Twins, as it turned out, he was Toxic for me....................... Broke my heart badly, listening to this brings back many memories, both wonderful and painful at the same time.
I've had my heart broken too. But I think I was the toxic one. I didn't mean to be.
I'm passing through a broken relationship with my first gf ever, I used to listen to Twins with her.. its sad how things ended up. I waited 13 years to met and love someone, I fully gave my heart to her, I never had anyone and never wanted anyone until she came from nowhere and took my heart.
May the Cocteau Twins be the filter that leaves you with only the fondness of memories.
@@HarrisonMessias you seem like a sensible man, worthy of great love. Don’t give up

God Bless The Cocteau Twins.
God bless them indeed for bringing such good music to the world
I honestly do thank him for them they bring so much purity with their songs at least that’s how I feel them and it is a gorgeous feeling
I am listening to them since 1983 and can't stop. I am 47 y. o. now...
Nobody sounds like this band. Totally original. As good as anyone else. What a sign off album too. If no one is buying at this point, sad, but the world's loss - god bless them for gifting this music to the world!
There was another album to come - Milk and Kisses
I shiver every time I hear her sing.
Every time.
I hope one day I can be as happy as Liz looks when singing and dancing. So free, so in the moment, so ... joyous. Would that we all be able to dance whenever we want.
Cocteau Twins kinda get into your head, and then they stay there forever. I don't know where they rank in the musical pantheon, but I know they rank.
Robin Guthrie shines like a rare diamond
hes beautiful
I love that Guitar I LOVE IT I LOVE IT,
Best of Dreampop.

Liz is so beautiful and so is that voice. And Robin and Simon churn out some fantastic music to back her. From the gods.

how was this song not an international hit? This song is huge. So beautiful.
I could listen to this a thousand times and not get enough.........
seeing them in concert was one of my life's greatest joys. it was a culmination of years of love and emotion and i melted.
I know this album is later in their catalogue, but the whole thing is so beautiful...spent a lot of time with this record!
This song just gives me goosebumps of happiness even though the subject matter is the opposite. The band is chill to the max!
a rare case of a GREAT song that has a music video that actually enhances the song. this is the best band
Rush fan checkin' in...And staying because CT is hauntingly blissful !
Eternamente agradecida a la gente que me rodea que me hizo sentir desde muy chiquita lo hermoso de esta banda, esa mujer, esa época.

Faye Wong's version was the first time I heard this song. I just found out today where its origin came from. Kudos. Great song
Been listening to the Coceau Twins since the late 80's thanks to my sister and brother...It was just weird music then...and now I find comfort in it.

One of the greatest voices in music of her generation. Angelic...
This makes me cry
I love the Cocteau Twins!! Thank you.
I hear that the powers that be are changing the definition of "Angel" to Elizabeth Fraser full stop.
Possibly/probably the Cocteau's most accessible song ever and none the less wondrous for it.

Gorgeous music. Elizabeth's voice I can dive into, roll in, surround myself with.
My teens and 20s. Brings it all back.

Turns out a digital oyster ate one of my favorite singers ever. Wow, was a pretty uplifting video until the very end.
I thought she was like a pearl that lived in the oyster & when it closed it was like closing the door to her home.
If you get a chance, listen to this song, on a long the highway, you will fall in love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!
Who said cocteau twins don't know how to write a hook? as close to a pop song as any cocteau twins song is gonna get.... A+
Esta cancion describe la belleza de sentimientos, la inocencia, la inseguridad de una mujer enamorada....y es preciosa.
