Of course I’m crying! Shane I’ll love you and will miss your voice FOREVER! what a beautiful human! @johnnydepp I love you too! For being a true friend to such a great man!
Beautiful tribute..but...this just says something about Shane. Bono is a legend in his own right.....Shane has covered many songs and had many of his covered....however....no one ever has, or ever will sound like Shane. A once in a lifetime talent...
@@travisarmour629 I disagree. I can't imagine anyone keening the words "in the name of love" like he did, for example. The problem is that his voice became a norm - we're so used to it by now that we miss its own character. And this takes nothing away from McGowan, by the way - there's a reason Bono is at McGowan's birthday party, paying court if you will. I love how tight the Irish music scene is, that you have a scene with as diverse artists like U2, Shane McGowan, Christy Moore, Clannad, Sinead O'Connor...and they seem to all know each other and support each other.

I like how Bono doesn’t even try to sing it like Shane cause what’s the point? Bono does Bono and I respect that. Still think Shane is a hundred times cooler though
Its great to see, og Dubliners violinist on the right. I'm huge Dubliners fan and even better songs with Dubs and Pogues are so freaking awesome. And its great to see that Johnny Depp is playing well thees days because (you know what i mean) and what comes to Bono... I don't like U2 and voice of Bono, but here it is less annoying... But yah great vide up there, keep it up, proud of u.
the day Dolores died and everyone is focused on Bono or Johnny and remember this was a birthday tribute concert for Shane, its them paying respect to Shane
well bono is afriend n troubadour right or wrong he was asked to sing " raINY NIGHT IN SOHO",get over it bono is irish n just happens to be the frontman to the biggest band in the world in the past 30 years
This is great, but I wish Bono had got the verses right. He got in a right muddlle, including putting second two lines from 4th verse in the 3rd verse, and jumping that wonderful last verse to near the start (especially noticeable when it starts "Not the song is nearly over..."). Probably an extra reason why the audience jumped in - to keep him on track!
Hold on, they are not the correct words of the song. Ah hear, with your emoting all over it. This could have been a lot better, but I guess it's just a jam... at the National Concert Hall... for a lyrical and musical wizard. Sinéad got her bit right and knocked it out of the park.
Terrible. They've turned a poignant song into some country and western nightmare. When Shane was asked what he thought of this performance by Bono...long pause...screws nose...""it was alright". He was being generous.
Shane MacGowan's always generous, isn't he? Even when people don't really deserve it. This is a nightmare travesty of an otherwise brilliant song. Who invited Bozo anyway? 'Bono Vox' me arse!
This song is meant to be sang by Shane. It’s not supposed to be all Bonofied with melody from the voice, the melody comes from the band. The singer gives it grit and personality. Bono truly did ruin it. What’s all that pish at the end he done there. Fucking hell, it was awful.
@@user-nu5ef2py5w Hi, I'm so sorry that I have upset you, it was meant as a joking friendly comment, I hope you and your family will manage to recover from this ordeal and continue on with a life close to what you had before. yours sincerely MM x
Cleanse the song of all emotion by turning it into a "production" number. Equivalent to Wayne Newton doin' a finger-snappin' "big band" version of "Where The Streets Have No Name"".
Hate to say this but Bono is presumably sober and can’t sing Rainy Night in tune or with any feeling at all. He really should be ashamed of himself for this performance. Long Life to you Shane x
Are you serious saying that you think Shane has a better voice than Bono ?? I love The Pogues & I think Shane is a poet but his voice doesn’t compare! Nobody could expect Bono to sing this better than Shane . So what? It’s a tribute !
Of course I’m crying! Shane I’ll love you and will miss your voice FOREVER! what a beautiful human! @johnnydepp I love you too! For being a true friend to such a great man!
This should have been on every television channel in the world. This is what real love sounds like.
Magnificent lyrics speaks to the soul.
Ole Shane has just a God given talent. To do what he does and rarely sober is mind boggling.
For me it's what it is : a Tribute for Shane, who was over 3 decades Johnny's friend...R.I.P🖤Shane🕯
Beautiful tribute..but...this just says something about Shane. Bono is a legend in his own right.....Shane has covered many songs and had many of his covered....however....no one ever has, or ever will sound like Shane. A once in a lifetime talent...
I hope people realise how good Shane is after listening to this
brilliant point ... Bono is okay, but has voice has no character ... IMO

Michael Somers yes indeed. We certainly do.
Away and fuck, Shane was a poet and a punk rocker.
Great observation 😂
The Man, love ur lyrics n Songs, you have given me so much joy, thank you Shane, ur wife, the
Pogues/popes, thank God you were born, xxx
Shane McGowan is the greatest artist to ever come out of Ireland
He was born in England
Bono did good but SHANE DOES and DID IT SO MUCH BETTER - No one like Shane - Only Shane
U2 Shane❤❤
Tish all you Bono and Johnny haters, get over yourselves. They're there and they're having fun, are they not allowed to? I blimin loved it.
I have to agree. They came to party and pay their respects to the greatest of them all - Shane McGowan. I tip my hat to both of them.
Doesn't mean we have to like it
..

I’m watching everything l can I’m sad so sad 😭
Brilliant
HOW FANTASTIC !!!! ONLY A SPECIAL MAN AND SPIRIT WOULD DESEVE THIS .... GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU XX LOVE FROM SKELMORLIE
Bono is so full of soul, he is one of the greatest!
Mikey Cronin from Longford on drums, another legend!
I stepped into shelter from a rain shower and into his arms. True story
I was 21. He was 23. This song our song
Tell me more about the true story
BRAVO 👏 👏 😊
Great job boy's 🇮🇪
Worlds Greatest!
Shane R.I.P.
Great people always meet.
nobody does it like Shane. funny thing is I was in a bar in soho late 80s and across from me was the main man with his wine & soda !
The greatest Irish song writer in modern times.
Van Morrison, by some distance, though Shane wrote some timeless songs.
Dude, you got a real nice Avatar. I' ll raise my glass to Pete and Shane
Omg my idol Johnny singing my favorite pogues song I gonna faint. I loved Shane and I love Johnny I guess bono ok too
Meine Nummer 1👍🏻✌🏻🙋♂️

Danke. Beiden wünsche ❤alles Liebe ❤❤❤😂😂ich hoffe ❤❤❤
would love to meet every one who made a comment here in the pub , would say that would be a night to remember ,
I love you hero
❤👏👏
Ur look very beautifull and stylish...
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢❤❤❤❤
the day Dolores died and everyone is focused on Bono or Johnny and remember this was a birthday tribute concert for Shane, its them paying respect to Shane
Bono ended the piece with the words, "linger, linger, linger" but I HOPE more was said at the time. Dolores still breaks my heart. What a voice!
Bono has a knack for ruining everything...like the 90s VU reunion
well bono is afriend n troubadour right or wrong he was asked to sing " raINY NIGHT IN SOHO",get over it bono is irish n just happens to be the frontman to the biggest band in the world in the past 30 years
Bono is an amazing talent who has managed to stay relevant over the past 30 years....I just don't think this was the best Pogues song for him to sing.
And Shane is english
Agree
John Sheahan is the real legend here. 🎻🇮🇪🍺☘️
Sharon Shannon on buttonbox?
Song is a fucking masterpiece , no fine epitaph for the man x
Well that proved a point Shane is a better singer than Bono...
And a better songwriter...
2 completely different styles... bono is a fantastic singer. he's hardly gonna go up on stage and mimic shane !
This is great, but I wish Bono had got the verses right. He got in a right muddlle, including putting second two lines from 4th verse in the 3rd verse, and jumping that wonderful last verse to near the start (especially noticeable when it starts "Not the song is nearly over..."). It was the evening Dolores O'Riordan
passed. From what I can recall, he said he changed the text a bit to honor her that way.
Thousands times better if Damien Dempsey had done it. At least he name drops Shane in his songs :)
SUPERB BONO AND JOHNNY DEPP TOGETHER!! !
4:44
Love seeing all the musicians whi played at Shanes birthday but i would have thought Christy Moore would have been there. No?
2 midgets jonny &bonio
He got the words wrong. No wonder after Shane said his version was only 'alright'
Hold on, they are not the correct words of the song. Ah hear, with your emoting all over it. This could have been a lot better, but I guess it's just a jam... at the National Concert Hall... for a lyrical and musical wizard. Sinéad got her bit right and knocked it out of the park.
Bono is brilliant.
Bono ne connait pas cette chanson, un vrai saccage. Le grain de voix de Shane reste et restera inimitable, comme un bon whisky écossais.
Right you are my friend, right you are
Bono est un chanteur pour faire mouiller les minettes, rien de plus, et ça se voit ici, il est tout petit
The thing is we like shane.
Ich hoffe. und. Weine......und hoffe
by the way brilliant version of "rainy night", jaysus johnny depp!!!!!!!!!!!!!
blue boy depp should stick to dressing up as a pirate
bono can leave nothing alone
Lol
Is Johnny Depp plugged in?
Bono's twist on this song is like a chinese burn
great vocal bono!
would have rather seen Nick Cave do this one as well over Bono
NO COMPARISON.
Bono ruined that song. A right balls of it.
Sit down Bono leave this to the real singer's
bono pure class
Styles make fights and singers make songs
Love Depp, but who is that old lady singing?
I dont like Bono..maybe i hate him...but theres no one better to perform this Song!
Pogues songs are not about big gestures. More like wishing a dark end of a lonely street to peacefully sleep.
Bonus voice gone
Bone-o taking the beautiful songs trunks off in front of all those people... disgusting-o.
No kidding last commentator. He got the words wrong. He's just jealous. His voice is the exact opposite of mr.macgowan. half protestant
Terrible. They've turned a poignant song into some country and western nightmare. When Shane was asked what he thought of this performance by Bono...long pause...screws nose...""it was alright". He was being generous.
True, this is self indulgent wankers ruining a top 1% song. Fuck off Bono
Shane MacGowan's always generous, isn't he? Even when people don't really deserve it. This is a nightmare travesty of an otherwise brilliant song. Who invited Bozo anyway? 'Bono Vox' me arse!
@@jacobfiil5918 HAH !!!!!!!!! TELL DEM JACOB.....WRONG EM BOYO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus wept..!
a masterpiece by shane macgownan ruined in seconds by bono
Arsehole; couldn't even learn the words.
He went wrong on the 2nd verse.
HE managed to omit "on a rainy night in Soho". lol.
the vocal was too Bono for me but rip Shane
Johnny Depp looks like a kid pretending to be a rock star
I mean.. what is your problem? let others enjoy themselfs.. he started in a band before being actor.. so STFU

stop being a hater depp is awesome and cool as always'
“I am doing things that are true to me. The only thing I have a problem with is being labeled.”
― Johnny Depp
I enjoyed but liked Sineads version and Nick Caves better. But Bono tried
Bongo screams again🤮
U2 makes the Pogues look like a bunch of babies, Bono one of the greatest singers of all time. Have a bit of respect
Cleanse the song of all emotion by turning it into a "production" number. Equivalent to Wayne Newton doin' a finger-snappin' "big band" version of "Where The Streets Have No Name"".
Ohhh boy that was painful to listen to. Shane rocks
What the fuck was bono and depp there for ?? Ruining a brilliant song. Who we told them they are fit to honour the great man Shane ?
Over the top pish
WTF!!!
Bono so obviously pissed
And singing out of key..
Worst version of that song
This should be about Shane, instead we have 2 textbook narcissists competing to make it all about them. Total disrespect!😡
Hate to say this but Bono is presumably sober and can’t sing Rainy Night in tune or with any feeling at all. He really should be ashamed of himself for this performance. Long Life to you Shane x
Was it raining when you wrote this and were you sober, me thinks not, really, please crawl back into where ever you crawled out of, yours, McGowan
Yikes 🙁
Horrendous!!!! But then Bone-O has always been 5hit!!
Are you serious saying that you think Shane has a better voice than Bono ?? I love The Pogues & I think Shane is a poet but his voice doesn’t compare! Nobody could expect Bono to sing this better than Shane . So what? It’s a tribute !
Bono just isn't cool enough for that song! One of the best Pogues songs ever and he's made it boring
Jesus I'm still listening it got worse... Leave it alone Bono
Bloody dreadful!
So cringe worthy when actors try to be rock stars.
I mean.. what is your problem? let others enjoy themselfs.. he started in a band before being actor.. so STFU
Bono is awful
Terribile........
Terrible version
Worst I ever heard.ruined a good song
Bono should not be singing this Shane MacGowan classic -
Awful !!!!!
An awful rendition of a beautifully crafted song..jeez!!
