Please note, there will not be a turned based mechanic in this series. I've tried working with it and tried getting it to work with the player and because the cameras work very weird in this game, I was sadly unable to get it to work. I will be posting a separate tutorial on the turn based mechanic, but it will be nearly impossible to add to an existing project. Edit: But the combat that I will be using is a button will be mapped to swing your sword, and if you hit an enemy with your sword you will kill it.
@@Toffee521 Thank you so much for mentioning this! Yes you can definitely do this. Actually I was going to make a tutorial on this exact topic in the future!
Damn, sorry to hear. I was thinking a battle with a metal slime from dragon quest would be fun to do. Nintendo should've made easier genres and ideas let alone upload forum on system.
While we're waiting on the next part, I'd like to share a tip that might have not been planned for it given Ori stated that the next part is going over some RPG elements instead. If anyone is having trouble with their character bouncing after a jump, make the connection type for the part connected to the body springy.
Hopefully it is! Well not to give your hopes and dreams up of this tutorial series but after looking at how to do a turn taking mechanic, it wasn't possible for this project since the way the stupid cameras work. I will be making a separate tutorial on how to do it though. It will just be very difficult to connect it to an existing project since the way the cameras work in this game. For this game though you will have just basically normal lame attacks but hopefully you will find something useful for this series. Sorry for possibly disappointing you :( Edit: Also that turn based mechanic should be coming soon, I've been working with it for a while now.
@@Oribloop I'd be really interested to see it! I was trying to think of the cheapest way to do a tactical turn based game, and I think a grid is too expensive. so maybe instead you do something like press a button to move in one direction a fixed distance (one cell), and that reduces a "movement" counter by 1, so units that can move farther just have a higher movement counter total. and similar for attacks, they expend an action counter. you could have enemies using the same counters, so when all your character counters reach zero it changes the enemy counters back to their maximum amounts, and the AI just moves as if it were a realtime game except it stops when it has no more counters and then it's your turn again.... something like that??
@@lol-mw7zh hmmm this would possibly work. Yeah it just needs to be something that isn't expensive what so ever. I've done a little planning with this combat, but all have used so many nodons and the major issue is the camera. I could try definitely doing something what you mentioned but I think it will just take time to really play around with. Thank you for giving me some ideas, I'm gonna start researching lol! :D

@@Oribloop to piggy back this comment I think it would be better to show the correct/optimal way of setting it up. this is looking like a really great tutorial series that I want to follow along, but not if what I'm learning is actually a bad way of doing things, if that makes sense maybe the best of both worlds would be to first do it how you did here so it's very clear, but then say "and if you want to reduce the nodon count, you can set it up like this" and then show the more efficient version
Yeahhh inventory is gonna be very difficult. I mean I bet it could be done, but not like your normal looking inventory. It would have to be like text that comes on the bottom of the screen and when you switch an item it displays what specific item. Actually while writing this I thought of a few ways to do this lol. @@Galeboy It’s not too bad if you implement it into the UI and just have it support mouse/gyro/pointer controls. Really depends on the kind of inventory you want though.
I’m trying to make a banjo from banjo kazooie custom character to use in my banjo kazooie game, I think it will be quite difficult, I have his head and body but am struggling with attaching his ears shorts and muzzle to his head and body. I really wish there was a 3D sculptor for creating your own characters like there is in dreams, it will probably be much easier to make a 2d banjo type game and use a drawn banjo sprite instead
Yeah no 3D sculptor here sadly. Making a banjo would be very difficult but not impossible, I would try making a 3D banjo with texture nodons for maybe the neck of the banjo, and attach that to a square object and texture the square object for the hole and bridge, and stuff. :)
Beautifully articulated video. Subscribed will be watching your series. I’m waiting on OLED Switch, I needed a way to prototype some ideas in my mind. This is perfect. Can we write our own code in case a node does not exist? Say for example there is not a node that will allow my character to grapple hook. What code language is required?
Ah yes the OLED Switch, I'm glad I'm able to help you get an idea of how the program works within this game! Sadly there is no way to write your own code, this game is in its own game engine (the same one Nintendo Labo used).
