I just got a Shimano Socorro 6000SW to replace my completely battle worn Penn Battle II 6000 for surfcasting. So far it handles big blues like a pro. I have it spooled with 30lb braid and has just enough drag power. I absolutely love it. I want to get a 8000 reel for heavier surf fishing off tougher structure, but I also hear good things about the spheros. Tight lines!

So far I'm liking mine but I haven't put it to the test on a big fish yet. That'll be this fall

Maddog Fishing same here! Can’t wait for the striper run in Long Island. Hopefully it handles 28”+ fish!

That thing looks like a tank, may have to consider it!

It's pretty heavy and I'm curious to how well it's going to hold up over time. My Penn reels are on their third and fourth season and still work flawlessly.

Hi, i think you had enough time, to say is it bad or good!!!
Keep it clean and it will last long time, how it preform, what do you think?

Maddog, It looks similar in size to my Penn SSVI7500LC (Long Cast) I'd be interested to know how many cranks it takes for line to travel from one end of spool to other. My Penn takes 5 cranks.. and it looks like it took you about 2 cranks on the Shimano. The more cranks the better because the line will oscillate less when it peels off the reel during a cast. Nice job ! Congrats on closing in on the 1000 Subscriber mark!

It's entry level or if you want fast retrieve SPF6500 or BG4500(less water seals, but you can put grease). All 3 weigh 22oz.
plus braid bg5000. One step more serious SPHEROS with better gear

Thank you, yes it is an entry-level reel. It's a little large for what I normally use for surf fishing. The 4500 is my preferred size reel. It is light and holds more than enough 30lb braid for surf fishing. I may pair it with my 15' surf rod for distance.

hi, youtube has recommended me your video !, jajjaja .... I suppose it will be for your review on the lethal60
this is a GREAT SOFT REEL, 37" ipt powerful and safe that will last for several years (this would suffer with 50-65lb braid to jigging).

My LT 60 it going on its 3rd season of casual use. It has worked flawlessly. I am hoping the Shimano Socorro will hold up to the abuse of surf fishing.

These reels feel like cheap plastic Chinese crap!

Yep, I agree! I've caught lots of 100+lbs sharks on it but it is my lease favorite reel. It flexes to much but it is still hanging in there.
