the nerve of blizzard to post this and then not a week later lay off over 80% of their esports staff, INCLUDING SOE, is… astounding. ASTOUNDING. good things will always be demolished before theyve even begun by greedy corporations.
Using Soe to announce this and then laying her off is actually criminal. Y'all can't do anything right
Moving back to more grassroots open competition, rather than forcing OWL, is the best move forward for OW2's comp scene.
Seriously I might watch if we can get entertaining commentary like Tekken or at least some watch-alongs with streamers or RUclipsrs
@@Doople that was already a thing during OWL. The problem is that OW isn’t a very interesting spectator sport and never has been, hence why it’s so often failed.
It was just scuffed companion streams with the video blocked out. Proper co-streams weren't allowed with very few exceptions.
How is this grassroots? Seems like its still going to be Blizzard in charge of its own E-Sports scene
@@WarriorDan its a very interesting spectator sport, but its hard to understand if you dont understand the complexity of it.
Giving tournaments back to the community so they can compete is a really smart move.

Would it be possible for you guys to fix the colorblind mode and maybe make it like how the OWL and contenders "spectating" colors were? Whenever i watched the Contenders stuff i can actually see whats going on compared to how the game is for us

The map of viable regions is hilarious. Europe is allowed but not Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Northern England. What’s weird is that Southern England, Wales, and Scotland are all fine. An island cluster near the North Pole is included so Santa and his elves can compete though. North Africa is fine, but everything below the Sahara is banned. The Middle East is allowed, but not Iran, Syria, or Iraq. It’s hard to see but I think Georgia is also not in. In North America, Greenland and the Northern Territories of Canada are included in case a team of walruses decide to play Overwatch, but Central America and Cuba cannot play. Almost nowhere in Asia is available to make a team, as I could spend less time talking about the countries that are able to join instead of the ones that weren’t included. Australia, South America, and Oceania are all completely excluded. Good one, Blizzard.
The map is inaccurate, go to their official blog posts and there is a complete list of countries allowed to compete. Also any player can compete, theyll just be considered "Non-Residency" players which each time is allowed to have 2 of

Iran, Syria and Irak geopolitical issues. And I don't think they have money to play in video games (because of issues)

for Asia, China can play, just negociation with Blizzard and China. About NZ and AUS, they are always included in APAC, since long time ago
Recently, a tweet confirmed LATAM players are eligible to participate in NA regions
It's just the colour scheme, the shade of blue shifts and is darker in Northern England and Ireland. Those islands in the Arctic circle are part of Norway which is why they're included

post watch: actually pretty excited, it sounds like we're getting a lot of the things we've been asking for for a long time. renewed support for EMEA and Japan is good to see, but it'd be nice to see some effort going into the south american region. Plenty of LANs, plenty of tournaments, it looks really promising
Despite not being happy with some parts of the current balance, this announcement is HUGE and looks to be way healthier, focusing on enabling grassroots open competition. This makes me hopeful for the future of the game, WE'RE SO BACK!

LATAM folk are eligible to play in NA (NA bias means that they didn't call it Americas, lol), but all competition happens on NA servers.

The only piece of information that I think is still necessary is where the games will be streamed. Is this gonna be a dedicated youtube / twitch for this or is it not really going to be broadcast like how Flash-ops wasn't save for individual player streams and the final couple of games getting covered? idk how that'll work but I hope they follow up soon on that! Otherwise excited for the OWCS!

That would be really cool. OWL had city teams like the nba or nfl, but hopefully now they can get some real big name esports orgs

I was always positive about Overwatch. This is a move in the right direction.
I hope that South America and Oceania get added later, after the program proves itself successful. Justice for Southern Hemisphere!!!

they really made the entire overwatch esports scene better
Competition needs to grow organically and this is a step in a right direction for that to happen. Unfortunately, esports was forced and grown artificially with OWL so it was never able to grow organically. Having more open competition is amazing for community for them to form their own tournaments that allows Overwatch competive to foster organically. I'm excited to see where this goes in the future and hopefully it will prosper.
I hope they make OCS skins for winning teams and players I've still got OWL credits to spend

I felt like something big was missing after OWL ended. Been watching Overwatch esports since the OGN APEX days.. so.. long time fan.
I don't play OW anymore and haven't for a long time, but the esports part is what kept me in the loop for awhile. So I'm very very happy to see this coming back
I'm really excited to see what OW Champions Series will bring to OW esports and how everything will work out!
Glad you guys didn't just stop supporting the esports scene of OW like Blizzard did with HOTS in the past.

Totally ignoring South America 😢 this is why counter strike is the most important game in Brazil into competitive scenario.

This is huge. What inspires me is the possibility for new talent to join the broadcasts. Whether it's through co-streaming or even casting, the grassroots scene will allow more people into the E-Sports side of things.
I always felt that OWL was a closed off system with no room for new talent. As much as I love the casters and hosts over the past few years, I too want to get into Overwatch casting and coverage. With a grassroots scene, hopefully it will allow people to grow their personalities through co-streams and their coverage of the E-Sport naturally. Eventually, people will make names for themselves and maybe even cast alongside some of the veterans of the OW scene.
Again, this is huge.
So happy for Soe to be back! That alone is a huge W for all of us

Okay thats good that the top competition has less offseason. How will the less top level competitions be handled? Also through FaceIT (would be nuts) or are you just focusing on the 1 top level competition and letting the game below that level die.

Excited we move past a strict invite only league format, which can work at the top of a pyramid, but a pyramid without foundation is just a pointy rock. W on that part as well, i think. Actually knowing the language of the players might just get me watching,

So glad OWL died. This is much better than letting top talent languish in tier2 and being gatekept by terrible brands trying to make money rather than win. I hope the players and teams can actually express themselves so we get many intresting personalities the audience can root for

So I played comp again and apparently we can only get the Jade guns and not golden guns so we can’t get more golden gun comp points until next February I love this mode with Jade but I kinda wanna get golden guns too
