  • International 4300 Transtar Eagle logging truck. Purchased new in 1981 by Procter Bros. Logging, the brothers worked this International Transtar Eagle 4300 log truck until retirement in October 2015. In January 2018, Glen Procter sold his iconic truck to Revelstoke log hauling contractor Jeremiah Altenhofen. The sound of Detroit Diesel music returned to the snowy peaks of Revelstoke, British Columbia, mountains for the month of January before Jeremiah retired the truck for a second time.
    This video is an updated repost to show respect to the Procter Brothers, Jeremiah Altenhofen and to the main feature the 1981 International Transtar Eagle 4300 logger.
    Please feel free to comment on the video.

    sweet sound, i drove many miles with a 8v71 and 8v92, they were all 13 speeds, i'm soon 61, my old man bought his first new logging truck when he was 18, when i was 12 he and i flew from Nova Scotia where we lived to the international plant in Oshawa to drive home his new transtar 4300 with a 318 and a 13 speed, i remember him driving along with his window down, his head out the window just to hear it purr, at that time when we left the government roads and pulled onto the company land i could drive, i was 12 then, all the young guys drove their old mans trucks, i think there was about 6 of us around the same age, by the time i turned 19 and could get my class 1 he had a 435 8v92 with a 13 speed, i drove that truck every chance i could, the next truck had a 475, on the east coast the road get to soft in the spring so you have to haul what ever you can, fish, lumber and we hauled out of two refineries, just before christmas everyone with a truck is hauling trees down into the states, the old man would haul wood to the mills all week and on friday we would head to the states with trees, be back sunday afternoon, fun time, i need and old truck with a jimmy and a 13 speed just for fun i think lol

      Very cool story! Thanks for sharing. My father was a trucker for 50 years but I never had the pleasure to drive one his trucks. The company frowned upon riders🤨 . I absolutely love Detroit Diesels! My fave - 8v71 music! . As a kid I’d stand on the streets, listen to the Jimmy’s scream by. Very rare sound nowadays. My father’s rigs always had Cummins or Caterpillar’s. The good thing about Detroit Diesel power is that it’s heard waaaaay before the truck’s spotted. Plenty of time to prepare the camera for a good shot. LOL. Again, thanks for sharing your story. I appreciate your viewership👍😎

    As a Californian for almost 40 years, all the extra length and weight capacity fascinate me. The look of all the extra axles and wheels is a sight to behold. The 8v92 sound with Dayton wheels is definitely a sight and sound to miss.

      I agree, SpecificationR, extra axles are sights to behold. Regulations mandate the amount. No getting around it. Unfortunately those axles amount into expensive tire bills. I've been a visual fan of Daton's since a kid! Tough look! Thanks for watching! Much appreciated!

      @CR250R40, excellent job on the video and other truck postings! I agree the Silver series Detroit Diesel sound is seldom heard nowadays. Really like the mix of Dayton 6-finger spoke and 3-triangle spoked wheels on this Transtar 4300 logging truck barely seen today. This is my favorite one of your videos. Much appreciated by this Retired U.S. Army Transporter!!!

      Hi Lucius, thanks for commenting. Thank you for your service, as well. Much respect! I too love seeing those 3 & 6 spoke Dayton's rotate as that beautiful sounding Transtar 4300 gears up! Wish I shot more footage of this rare rig. Detroit Diesel's are music! I'll keep my eyes and ears open for more Detroits. There are a few Detroit powered dump trucks still hauling around the area I film. Thanks for watching! Much appreciated! 👍😀

      I concur - love the Dayton’s, too. This international is one of my favourite trucks. I love old rigs! There are quite a few trucks still running around my city with Dayton wheels. Most are dump trucks. Thank you for watching. Much appreciated.

      The last I read in Jan 2018, fuel was getting in the oil. The engine required more repair and money than the owner was willing to put into it. Not sure what became of the truck after that. Sorry. I miss seeing this rare 5-axle beast. I appreciate your viewership. Thanks for watching!

      I agree, Thomas! That 8v92 is music to my ears! I miss the days of old when 3 out of 5 trucks were Detroit powered, more so the LTL rigs running around the city! Rare sighting to see a rig like this Transtar today. We hear Detroits approach before they're sighted, which elevates the fun! Thanks for watching!

      This truck was a beast! I agree! It certainly is missed! It had a lifetime owner who sold it only due to the fact he was retiring from logging! Its a rarity today to see an old girl like this. Rest in peace indeed!

    You can tell it has either a 13 or a 18 speed because of the whine of high gear the back box in the transmission

      Initially I wrote the incorrect engine. My mistake. It was one of those moments thinking of one thing while writing another. I didn’t catch my mistake until months passed. I apologize for misconstruing.
      The engine in this 4300 definitely is an 8v92. Pure music! Thank you for watching!

    Getting fuel in the oil wouldn't be too hard to work out what's wrong on a Detroit, maybe faulty injector. Just take off the inspection covers and you'll see which cylinder is the problem.

    • @coolbigrigs
      @coolbigrigs  2 года назад

      unfortunately, I believe the owner sold off this Detroit powered logger and the truck is now out of commission. Sadly. It was a sweet running truck for so many years. Thank you for watching a video. Much appreciated👍😎

      @@coolbigrigs Cheers. They're getting pretty scarce as you say time to restore a classic and get it on the road, that's my plan anyway, just need a bit more cash as trucks cost a fortune to fix up. I'm from Australia and the IH 4300s had 350 Cummins and the shorter bonnet 4200s had 8V71Ts or TAs

    Hi brother.
    British Columbia allows about 9 axles per truck, right?

    • @coolbigrigs
      @coolbigrigs  4 года назад +2

      Eight axles are max legal on British Columbia highways. For tractor-trailer unit on B.C. highways with nine axles and greater requires a special overweight permit.
