In 2022, the staff of Billboard ranked at number one this performance in their "22 Best VMAs Performances of All Time". We don't see this kind of performance in VMA nowadays.
She did “brine” the issues. Like subjugating queer culture, stealing lyrics and melodies, and generally being unoriginal. There’s a reason why she’s totally over now lolllll. Catchy but crappy music gets you as far as 2002.
@@angeloc.6550 Subjugating queer culture? Oh please. 🙄 No one was giving any attention to the gays when everyone was dying of AIDS. They were mocked, judged and held in contempt at the time of this release. This is a life affirming song when the Reagan administration literally laughed at everyone dying. Two of the men in this performance had HIV and were terrified. Madonna showcased them as royalty while middle white America looked away. No one, not Michael, not Whitney, not Prince, not Cher, not anyone went as hard for the gays as her. So please, spare us with this stupid critique I keep seeing that lacks a ton of context.
This song was a MONSTER hit for Madonna, was on Vert Heavy rotation on many radio stations( including the one I worked for) being played every 42 minutes.
Great reaction, guys. I'd recommend her VMAs performance of "Express Yourself" (1989) or "Sooner or Later" at the Oscars (1991). Or really just any live performance from any tour she's ever done because she is just phenomenal live. No one like her.
Everytime she performs Vogue in tour she does it in a different and unique way. The official video is iconic. I recommend 'Express Yourself' from her Blond Ambition tour (Paris).
The thing about Madonna is audiences can’t keep up with her. Just when you’re astonished and loving what she’s doing she’s moved onto something else. You gotta be open minded and curious to move with her.
I’m new here and have got to say, I’m in love with the dude in the middle during the reaction, living his best life. So cool to see the effect Madonna has on him. ❤
I am in awe, especially when recognition came from straight men for she's mostly known as ally to the LGBT's,. best of all the verification from black community (with respect) whom I regarded with high musicality standard gives a chill on me, just wow what a validation!!! This only shows how the world would be if we all have an open heart and mind, love, peace, justice and equality is never too far to attain...for that's what Madonna's message is all about...Thank you so much, and more power !!!
there’s something so positive and have such good energy, watching confident, attractive, straight men that are clearly successful and happy and pretty much confident within themselves to talk about a diverse community. That’s very different from them and share the different lifestyle and to be able to respect it and honor it it’s just amazing to seeand the way they communicate is pure education you can tell these guys are well spoken well educated they’re not ignorant and it’s pretty cool to see.
Much love! We are just trying to be good worldly citizens! The arts are much more than what we see in our bubble. Hopefully we can inspire others to step out of their box!
Yes. I love that you put this up here. I am Miss Brown and I have been here was there I was 16 and Madonna Vogue the lyrics assisted me in my success in life. Besides the choreography not Macaronilol. But love this and yes I practiced Vogue everyday
Thanks so much for doing this. I am a big Madonna fan and loved this performance. Not 1800's Victorian times though...these looks were based on Marie Antoinette and the French court in the late 1700's. I remember it was so unexpected at the time, since it had such a different look than the video.
I choreographed a hair show in Germany with these exact same wigs and costumes to Bette Davis Eyes in 1980! So I feel proud of myself after seeing Madonna do it ten years later.
Your reactions were spot on. Laughing at the right spots, and in awe in the right spots. This was the best performance of Madonna ever of all time. Even though she lipsynced it, it didn’t matter and people didn’t care. The costumes, choreography and theme for this performance was brilliant. Madonna at this time was at her peak. After this, she was on top of the world for a while but started fading slowly. Of course now a days, she’s been done for the past 10 years now and kinda ruined her legacy. I’ve been to two concert tours of Madonna’s, but her upcoming Celebration Tour will be a complete dud. If the tour even happens. It’s already been postponed due to her illness. And now, she is having an incredibly hard job even preparing for the show with her knee wrapped, barely able to dance. I have a feeling the tour is going to be either postponed again, or cancelled altogether. I mean, shes what? 65 now?
You should give the Live version of Vogue from the Re-Invention tour (the full version of that .. as there are edited versions) and the live version from The Sticky and Sweet tour.
So I don't know if y'all know this or not but in the early 80s Madonna also did a live performance of her song Like a Virgin on MTV on their award show and it was awesome
Really great reaction to this iconic performance! I remember being so excited to watch this when it was on MTV and everyone was talking about it the next day it was the most talked about performance obviously. Have you guys watched her 1989 MTV performance of Express yourself? That's another good one!
I would recommend the documentary she had done about the concert tour she did around this time. It's called Madonna: Truth Or Dare(1991) and it really shows the good, the bad and the ugly about touring. She is almost arrested in Toronto. It's a fun watch. Enjoy. Thank you.
Love this! Thank you guys for sharing this video and giving props/respect to the queen of pop and the fact that she has always been for the lgbtq+ and all minority groups. This performance is EPIC!!! TIMELESS!!! And AHEAD OF IT'S TIME!!! You guys should review more of her live performances.
Vogue is one of her signature hit songs. Here, she mainstreamed the gay underground vogueing drag ball sub culture when it was risky and unpopular to do-as one way she championed gay rights and causes eventually making her a heroine/icon of the LGBTQ community. She also paid tribute to early Hollywood stars (Monroe, Dietrich, etc.) that influenced her. In this performance, she brilliantly and satirically evoked the ornate fashion and lusty mores of French 18th century pre-revolution Marie Antoinette aristocratic society as featured in the 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons (starred Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, etc.) with its condescending attitude towards the lower classes. Beyoncé paid homage to Madonna and her influence on female pop music artists when Queen Bey released her 2022 single/video of Break My Soul/Vogue (the Queens Remix). Great reaction from you guys. Appreciate you covering Madonna’s music and artistry.😊
So ya'll pretend you haven't seen this video before? Damn! People do anything for clicks and likes these days. "I don't remember this performance!"Where have you lived? Under a rock? She was the one who put gays , Latinos and Black people in her videos, exposed them and their talents to a new audience and was living what people call "woke" today! Madonna did it all. She supported rap and hiphop, was the first person to put The Beastie Boys on the map by taking them on tour in 1985 , she spoke against censorship in music ....and dated 2PAC! Madonna IS IT!
