This interview have helped me a lot, to watch such a strong person being so honest and showing how vulnerable he is still, and I shared the video on my Facebook page, to try to show people how C-PTSD is, hoping friends and family might understand my own battles in life. I haven't been in war-zones, but I've been addicted to looking into the dark places of my own mind and the dark places of the human mind in general, after traveling to Germany and Poland as a teenager to see the remains of the Holocaust, and reading so much and trying so hard to honestly try to understand how utterly black the human mind can become. Then watching addiction in others, watching others die from addiction, and watching myself being an addict, trying to control my tiny spot in my own mind, to try to avoid the crippling anxiety that seem to come to overwhelm everything in life. I remember I cried hysterically when a therapist said I suffered from PTSD, and it's such a relief to finally have some medical help to get a tiny medical relief from the fear, instead of endangering my life because of addiction with drugs and alcohol.
There's such sharp, short line between sanity and madness.

What an excellent interview. You always stood out to me as one of the most compassionate war reporters Fergal. Sorry to listen to the toll it has taken on you. Good wishes for your future. Thank you for making a difference.

Fergal, your stories have helped me. Just like you, I worked in war zones and am also from Ireland. So much of your story made sense to me.

Fergal I'll be going to the bookstore today, to buy your book. It takes courage, to admit when we've been damaged, by certain BLACK times in our Lives. But as they say......it's not where you currently are matters, it's where you're going! You without doubt.....Will shine a beacon, for people who've suffered trauma. We need to talk more to each other. ( thinking about young men, who commit suicide.....because they can't talk to anyone, in their current pain)

I found Fergal Keane in his podcast on the murdered Irish children in 1950's. Then I learned about my father's war experience in ' The Road of Bones '. A truly honest journalist who I respect enormously. I am very sad he has suffered so badly but he's bought the truth of suffering to us. ❤. Read his book ' The Road of Bones ' - you will become an ardent pacifist instantly.

Interested to hear how a reporter can get second hand PTSD while not being directly involved or injured in any conflict.
