- Sharing my thoughts on this MOD I recently did on a Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder.
I made this video a while back, but didn't have time to edit and post it until now. I hope you can filter through some of my babble, as I was exhausted when recording this vid. LOL
This guitar sold before I was able to do a jam/play-though video. So, I added a clip I did with my other Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder jam vid.
Thanks for watching
I wanted a cheap guitar with a Floyd Rose and active pickups. So I ended up getting one of these in black. Very happy with it - love the neck and was pleasantly surprised how good the EMG pickups are - especially when I stomp on the RAT or DS-1.
Schecter definitely makes great lower end guitars. Great mods.
I have the same model and color. It's my main axe for the studio and live. Chose it over a Charvel Pro Mod. Glad I did.
The trem it comes with new is a Floyd HotRod with stainless steel string locking screws and you can see in your trem that those screws are silver in colour so possible it's still that same unit? The arm is a push in thank God, I hate those collars on the original trems. Having said all that I somehow managed to thread the saddles using these stainless steel screws (and i've never done that in my many years of abusing trems) so I'm awaiting on some normal German screws coming as I've had this guitar shelved for a few years now.
Ah, on closer look the Floyd has Special written on it so looks like they've just taken that and added the stainless steel bits and push in bar part.
@@redcustard Yes.these guitars come with a Floyd Rose Special "Hotrod" I changed out the bridge and used the stainless steel screws from the special.
@@tonlarj37 Well I'll see how things go and how i feel about the guitar overall but getting a hold of the original hotrod would be ace.
If you sold this on Reverb I think I'm the guy who bought this. All the same upgrades are on the one I bought. So if it is, its a great playing guitar!
Cool! Maybe so! Thanks
I got the Tele body same color and everything else the same as what you have there . Never had any problem with the Floyd or any real problems . I do plan to put Locking Goto Tuners on it but that's all. I play mostly Thrash and Shred and its one of the best Guitars I have ever owned at any Price point in almost 40 years of playing Guitar ! Draw from this what you may ???
Thanks for the comment. Glad you didn’t have any issues with yours. They’re super fun to play. They’ll get the job done for basic thrashing and shredding. Great bang for buck.
The entire SVSS range is excellent. I own three and will never part with any of them.
I'm buying this one not the sustainiac I want to play metal and gain stuff should I go with it
I wanted to change the knobs on this to the fender style like you have. Will the fender style ones easily swap with the original ones that come with this guitar?
As far as I remember. Yes
Tony, that was a great review. Question for you: what's the slinkiest/easy bend feeling 24 fret guitar you've ever played? Any brands you prefer for ease of play? Thanks
Thanks!
Well... I’ve been able to play any brand. I guess it depends on what gage strings I’m using. Sometimes if a guitar is too tight feeling, I’ll set it up with lighter gage strings. Or, the other way around. Until I find a sweet spot.
Tony, I know this is an old video, but why on Earth did you sell both of your Schecter Sun Valley guitars? You pointed out so many good things about them, I just can't see why you wouldn't have kept at least one of them if you know
In short, a couple guys saw the video's and offered a worthy price. So, I sold. That's happened a number of times. It also has afforded me the opportunity to purchase other guitars to mess around with and review for this channel. Thanks for the comment.
Great video and guitar. I own the same one as previously mentioned. Can you tell me the name and brand of the toggle switch and knobs that you used as a replacement? I like and may do similar. Thanks.
Also, please do a sound test video. 😀
Thanks, man! I actually sold this guitar and did this quick video before packing and shipping it out.
The knobs are just basic Strat style knobs. You can get them in a variety of places.
Here's the link from Reverb where I purchased the 3 way toggle

I have the same guitar.....the term bridge is getting hung up on the wood of the body..seems like it wasn't routed quite enough. Won't settle back to pitch. Is taking the floyd out and doing a slight dremel job pretty easy ..never took out a floyd before?
I would take it out. It’s easy to take out, but not to set back up if you’ve never done it before.
Hey good looking man, I want to listen to your opinion about seymour duncan pickups SSL1 and SH4
Hey man .. what do u recommend, this one or charvel pro mod san dimas or charvel dk24 hh ? In terms of playability (legato shredding ... ect ) and durability too
ahmed hanin I slightly prefer the neck and pickups on this Schecter, but you’ll most likely need to invest in it a bit. As I mentioned in this video. The Charvel’s seem to be more solid consistent. I’m personally not as big a fan of the speed neck. Just a preference think. Better components on the Charvels
I see .. I guess i'm gonna pick the charvel, and both guitars r amazing.
By the way, amazing playing from the other video 👍
could you switch the bridge with an Original Standard Floyd with no hole redrilling? Looking to grab one of these but I'm expecting to switch the bridge cuz ill be playing it a lot and seems like the main thing worth modding on this guitar
Yes. I’ve done that on my first one.
@@tonlarj37 awesome! thank you for the quick response
How do the necks on these compare to the MIM Charvels?
The CE24 is a little thicker and more of a C shape
Sorry, I thought this was on another video comment. These are about the same thickness but Charvel’s are wider
Thanks!
@@chris_2714 The Charvels with those roasted necks are so much better, i have both guitars but Tony is right the neck width is about 1.8mm wider but both have a C shape to them, super comfy both of them but like i said the Charvel neck is such a winner.
Why do you need a fret wrap this guitar already ha sa locking nut ?
Anything shred fret wraps are for muting the string noise with a lot of gain, not locking the nut.
Oh
how much did u get it for?
I think $400
@@tonlarj37 that is a great deal ngl and it is a great modding platform..
you are goofy. the floyd is made out zinc and schecter hot rodded it with stainless steel saddles and the screws that hold the saddles. come on made that is lazy for using a magnet lol
Dude! Did you watch and listen to what I said. I replaced the Floyd. Magnets won't hold on the Specials that come on this guitar.
@@tonlarj37 I watched the video and bothered me that the stud mounts were loose that is a terrible qc problem which will make the guitar a B stock. Thinking about getting it and now what to check first.
@@crate718 Yeah, That happened with both of this model that I had. I put a German made Floyd in the first one. The 1000 series is a lot better than the special, and was a decent since I had one on hand. Floyd did tell me they were the same. lol I didn't have to rout for the 1st guitar I had. I mean, They're fun guitars and are fun to play, but will need some attention. Their price point says it all.
@@tonlarj37 the studs on the special suppose to have the exact stud size as the original Floyd which very strange. I just upgraded my 1990 charvel 475 special with the Gotoh Floyd. I am about to buy original Floyd studs. Now I am thinking maybe getting one of the new Charvel or Korean made Jackson DK2 green glow
@@crate718 I have a bunch of Floyd parts laying around. The special parts are inconsistent. I like the Gotoh Floyd. I also have a 80s Schaller on my old Kramer Custom.
