    I noticed that the car was in Sport 2 mode, which I believe has active handling disabled. I wonder if this would have been less likely to happen in Sport 1 mode.

      It's possible that Active Handling would have caught this if the driver were in Sport 1. However, that is a very fast corner and there's not a lot of run off room.

    Based on the data shouldn’t traction control have intervened? Isn’t TC still enabled in Track mode on the Vette?

      PTM is enabled but my understanding is that it's designed to work at WOT and it's meant to limit wheel spin to put power down but not stop it. I use it a lot in low speed corners but I've never wanted to rely on it in a high speed corner like T3.

      He’s in Sport 2…very likely if he’d been in Sport 1 with active handling the car would have saved him. Thanks for the great video!

      I agree. You lose stability control in sport 2 or race 1 on later models. This was a wreck several seconds in the making. While the stability control won’t always save you I feel for the vast majority of weekend track warriors it should be on. I know of 3 extremely experienced and fast drivers that drive in sport 1. They have compared it to race and there is negligible difference in times. But, to each his/her own. I personally do not find it intrusive.

    Maybe I'm wrong but seems like this was an A8 trans? You know I had the yellow A8 Z06 for quite awhile and turned many laps at VIR in it. He had an on throttle downshift mid turn. I wouldn't downshift an A8 on throttle in a turn. Definitely upsets the balance in my experience. Wouldn't surprise me it broke loose, especially in colder temps or cold tires. Also got to consider the applied 300HP at that moment in 4th vs 3rd gear.
    If it was an A8 I would advise the driver never downshift on throttle while turning.

      Looked at my vids from vir. I downshifted from 4th to 3rd prior to turn in at turn 3. Why would you downshift on throttle mid turn. In principle that's just a mistake, which generally is why these things happen. Only thing I can think of is they just made a simple mistake, Maybe realized he hadn't shifted or felt he needed to be in a lower gear?

      That is a great observation and something I totally missed. I'll check with the driver but I wonder if it was in 'D' and the car downshifted on its own due to throttle input. I see that same downshift mid-corner in the prior lap as well.

      Pretty sure I heard the paddle click to downshift in the video. I don't think it was in D.

    What kind of data recording system are you guys using?

    • @HiPoDriver
      @HiPoDriver  Год назад +2

      That's the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) option on the Corvette, Camaro, and V-series Cadillacs.

      @@HiPoDriver Thanks. I didn't realize that all of this data was embedded in the videos until I saw your videos!

    He's generating 1.25GLat already, and he's at peak torque with 60% throttle, so the GLong should be ~0.5. that's 1.25^2+0.5^2=1.8 Gsum that's way too much for a street car, unless he's got massive aero and slicks.

    Ran out of talent. Corvettes wreck the most at VIR out of any car from what I was told. I can't see the data since its a little fuzzy and just watched the wreck, you can't stab the throttle so hard so early into t3 like that, his car was still rotating and that stab of the throttle totally threw the car off.... hence, running out of talent. Big power means big respect. Also, it's not a super fast corner, it's around 68. A high speed corner to me is T10 because it's around 100 if you are doing it right.
