CT5-V Blackwing at PittRace - 1:57.32
This wasn't a great lap, but I managed to beat my PB from yesterday by nearly a second. Most of that time was made up on the back straight, and comparing the two laps a mid 1:56 is certainly possible with this car. The fast lap doesn't start until 8:50 in the video.

I was having a nice discussion with someone about why you need to flush the brake fluid - especially the stock fluid. This was the first lap on track in my then new C7 ZR1 with the OEM brake fluid. This turned out to be my fastest laps of the weekend, but still a couple of seconds off my PB in the CT5-V Blackwing. I gridded up behind John Heinricy in his CT4-V Blackwing race car and did my best to hang on with very cold tires.

Huge thanks to my friend for letting me take his 2023 CT4-V Blacking out for a few laps at Summit Point. The car was incredibly easy to drive fast and while these weren't max effort laps I was consistently turning high 1:25's bone stock with a passenger. Look for an upcoming video where I'll break down the data and compare the 4BW to it's bigger brother the 5BW.

      Hey Jeremy - all is well and thanks for checking in. Life has gotten in the way of getting to the track much this past year. I did manage a 1:14.2 at Summit Point this Summer, but no new personal bests to share. Unfortunately, I have a driveline issue that has the car down. No worry though - Katech will have me fixed up in time for next season.

    Great video! I have a Gen 6 Camaro with PDR. I've been using a Garmin Catalyst which is great but doesn't have some of the features shown in this software. Onto my question though... has anyone tried this with a Chromebook? I only have Apple products at home. I'm willing to invest money for a new laptop or chromebook but want to keep cost to a minimum. Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance!!!

      Really late response on my part, but the Pi Toolbox only works on Windows. You can download the Cosworth "AliveDrive Race" app which should be available in the Apple and Google Play stores, but it's going to be a limited set of capability compared to Pi.

    Torn between one of these and having a daily w/ a C7 GS. This is just such a big car. Does the weight and size ever bother you? Great videos!

      You can feel the extra wheelbase more than anything. It still handles well though. As with any 4100 lb car you're going to use up tires and brakes, although I found the stock PS4 tires to be very good and actually heat cycle out before they wear out. I am super tempted to sell mine and buy a 25 with the Precision Package.

      I believe I covered that in this video - ruclips.net/video/9FXMzesdwMg/видео.htmlsi=wWCUU8jKiHcJrBgP. It's on an older version of Pi, but the concept is the same. You need to right click on the map and pick edit, then you can right click on the map and insert segment break.

    When you had the CT5BW in the air; were you able to identify a front jack point under the engine? Similar to what was found on previous V models?

      The service manual says you can jack it by the front cross member. I've done it a few times, but have used two points and not solely from the center of that member.

      @@HiPoDriver Thanks, I’ve been hunting for that diagram from the manual. When I’ve checked the center brace it’s covered by that aluminum shield unlike the CT5-V (non Blackwing) who have a rubber lift block at the center point.

    The lap timer starts way after the line.

      The finish line is set right where the line is across the track on the front straight. There is a small delay before the actual time shows on the video overlay.

      We had a motor issue last July, so the car was down for a while. I just got it back and did a shake down last week. I plan to have it back at the track in early June and hope to post more after that.

    What's the highest lateral G's you have seen on Cosworth? On street I've only got to 1.29g

      Highest peak is 1.8g on Michelin slicks, but those instantaneous peaks are misleading. Highest sustained is around 1.6g

    I just downloaded the app and followed all the steps. Mine looks slightly different maybe because I’m using a newer iOS version but I was unsuccessful at looking at my side by side data and video. The app won’t recognize or sync side by side as in if I load 2 outings. It won’t compare the two and I can’t see laps. A few of the features that shows in your video isn’t on my app. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

      They have made a lot of changes to the app since I made this video in 2020. Let me take a look and see if I can figure out the issue. I should really do an updated version with the current app.

    Thanks for the video. It's frustrating that even 3 years in there is no real support from Cosworth or manual on this and Pi Toolbox for PDR. I've not had any issues uploading sessions to the app on either the phone or iPad, but have not been able to create a track (the options are grayed out). Any ideas you have are welcomed!

      Are you talking about Pi Toolbox, or AliveDrive Race? That video is about the latter and they are very different products. I'll have to try and create a map file in AliveDrive and see if I can replicate your problem.

      @@HiPoDriver yes it was AliveDrive. Whenever I would pull up the Create Track menu, the only thing I would get is the ability to change track name. The "Done" at the bottom is grayed, and there is a light blue or gray bar under the Name. Other than that, it's empty.

    I got my c7 zr1 a few months back. About 5 days after I got it, I was at the track (CMP). After a few very slow warm up laps, I started a .6 tenths lap. Going into turn 8, brake pedal went nearly to the floor. Luckily I was able to still slow it down just enough to negotiate the turn. Limped back to the pits. Lost the brakes completely in the garages at about 5mph. Totally agree with you on the crappy stock fluid. Changed it to SRF, and have had 5 successful track days since.

    Get a real splitter on that thing! Makes a huge difference in the aero balance with the wing on the back. We call our Grand Sport a GS.R also, I love the name. We are in NH maybe next year we can meet at PittRace and see how our compare:)

    You've taught me everything I know about Pi Toolbox. Thank you! I'm trying to use your PDR1 workbooks, but am having issues. My sessions were at Watkins Glen, but the Maps tab still shows Summit Point maps. The Compare tab also is only loading values from one of the sessions, but not the other. This is odd since the data loads fine into an older workbook I have which I created following your older videos.

      The map issue is an easy fix. Go up to "map on the menu bar, then load. Then pick the map file for WGI. If you've not created a map file (.pxt file), see the video I made on creating map files from outings. Hope this helps!

    I don't think 1000 AMH is correct for being full-stiff for your Corvette with factory Magride. I know you now have their shocks, but I wanted to point that out. It is more in the range of 1900F. I am on my 2nd controller with my 3rd vehicle. You can go higher but it depends on other settings. Typically 1600 is all you would ever want to go on fronts and around the 1300 range max for the rear depending on spring settings. 1100 is comfortable for the rear depending on other tables. I just wanted to point that out. I also had discussions with Tom, Mike, and Jeremey before his departure.

    In Tom’s video from DSC he talked about zeroing out the G force. What advantage or disadvantage would doing that have?

      I believe you're referring to the G comfort zone. That's an area that prevents the shocks from stiffening up under low G loads. It's meant to improve ride comfort on the road, but on track you might get a floaty feeling on the straights. I zero it out in track mode.

      I find that slowing the rate at which the front stiffens under heavy braking helps get more weight on the nose. That in turn helps the ABS from immediately engaging which can trigger ice mode.

      @@HiPoDriver interesting I was thinking the opposite as the ice mode will happen more often if the my adjustable rear sway bar is set stiffer. Lowering the rear of the car has made it worse as well. When I get ice mode it happens immediately without the abs pulsing. I have felt the abs pulses on hard braking on road course.

    Really, this is the process to try to set it up to compare lap times and comparison data? You lost me at least by the time where you define distance in meters when all I am interested in is MPH and other similar US based data. Also my 2023 Pi toolbox does not have the same paths that you reference here. Thanks for trying. I guess it works for others. I got some data channels to list but they never graphed.
