    6:10 while the co-driver reads his pace note, his voice is altered by the movement and vibration of the car, just like what one would find in the wrc onboard vids. That kind of detail gathers up for a great game.

      I've played through all 6 locations, and, despite the graphics looking better, the tracks themselves are much more boring. Dirt Rally was a theme park in comparison - the tracks there are very iconic. Nothing really distinguishes the tracks in Dirt Rally 2.0.

    If I understand correctly, the tracks are now dynamic. Meaning, it will change depending on how much cars have passed on it. This would explain why the track details looks worst on 2.0 than in the first one.

    They lowered the texture quality of the roads, especially dirt and mud roads, because of the new track degradation system.
    If you are low in the rankings, you will be running low in the starting order and so more cars will have gone down the track ahead of you. This will leave the road degraded and even leave ruts full of mud and water that affect your handling where the previous cars have left tire tracks.
    I would take the slightly lower texture quality to have that kind of dynamic track.

    • @Bazzookie
      @Bazzookie 5 лет назад +76

      It's most likely due to the fact of the better lighting, shadows, reflections, and particle effects. They sacrificed some detail in places where you'll never notice to keep the performance higher since you're driving at 50+ mph focusing purely on the track in front of you. People are seriously complaining about textures when during actual game-play you can't tell or notice the difference. smh

    I think Dirt rally 2.0 looks like they've added a lot to make it look more beautiful, but the result in my opinion is that it has become slightly less realistic, and feels more like a movie than real life, where all of the effects (especially lighting and shadows) are exaggerated. Both games look great in their own right. I think Dirt Rally 1 has a more neutral look which is trying to be as realistic as it could, and Dirt Rally 2.0 has more of a cinematic feel.

      No but it is a big improvement over the handling (not perfect yet but slowly getting there). I think most people end up getting it for that. Who cares about graphics when everything is a blur in the cockpit anyways. Sure if you have the view from outside I'm sure it makes a difference, but from inside you don't have time to see much.
      The biggest improvement in 2.0 is that you have to control your throttle in the turns (especially in the wet), you can't you blame the accelerator or you will slide in the ditch. That is absolutely a game changer.
      I actually use Dirt rally to practice for real rally. The first one wasn't too realistic with its driving physics, although it did absolutely help me a lot to maintain control of my real rally car last month at my last rally on a couple occasions and actually on a close call on an icy highway a few months ago. It is really good at getting you to practice counter steering perfectly to maintain control.

    Lighting in 1.0 was considerably more realistic than in Dirt 2.0. In the new game, it feels over-cinematic with over saturated scenes and insane levels of bloom. Honestly I prefer the first game in this area, since the new one comes across a bit overbearing.

The UI in DR2 is brilliant, although it may be taking a bit too much from the Forza series, I feel like it gives the game a refreshing look and depth that puts a smile on your face, since that's what you see when you first launch your 60$ purchase.

    Visuals look much better lighting wise, tho they should carry over details for interiors from 1st game. Sound is orgasmicly good in Rally 2.0, it has this natural variance that you hear in real life cars, instead of EXACLY the same sound everytime they rev. Interior sound effects seem to be a bit better in 1st Dirt Rally tho. Damage seems to be a bit better in 2nd game too. Road surfaces quality could be sacrificed due to new system that deteriorates the gravel progressively tho it isnt the case for tarmac so it being a bit worse is weird. In general Dirt Rally 2.0 looks better and has presentation of much more alive world, while 1st game feels a bit dead except for Sunset conditions lighting where orange glow helps it out a bit.

    Most of these "downgrades" are just due to a shift in focus. Codemasters stated that they wanted the game to feel more like a "serious sim". As such they prioritized physics and handling over looks.
    Most serious sim racers will tell you that if you don't use cockpit view, or some variation thereof, you're doing it wrong. (This is not to say that people who want to treat as just any other racing game aren't allowed to use different viewing orientations.) But it does kind of justify their decision to not implement a lot of the details that were present in it's predecessor. Like anyone is gonna notice most of those while shredding through the countryside at 100+ mph anyway. :D And on top of that, even with the lack of details, 2.0 looks a lot better simply due to the better lighting and reflections.
    Very detailed comparison though! Good video.

  • @paulgarrett1622
    @paulgarrett1622 5 лет назад +1

    The biggest problem for me is car handling, it is very unrealistic. I rallied a mini cooper MK1 1969 for 7 years. In Dirt rally the handling is pretty good a minin is naturally very stable you can throw the car around in any conditions on any surface and know it will stay on track where you want it inch perfect, in Dirt rally 2.0 the mini cooper slides around all over the place, this is totally unrealistic, it is nothing like a real mini, if a real mini was like this people would being getting killed every second of the day. The same applies to most of the other cars. Now I only rallied as an amateur but I know enough to understand car handling dirt rally has it pretty good 2.0 is a long way from right. They say they have improved the physics, I really want to know how because certainly with regard to the historical cars it is in most cases far, far worse and if it were a real car it would be instant death.
