Aww... I think I remember that old glass Armada Way shopping centre lift from when I was a child! Memories :') so sad it's gone now. I haven't been to Armada Way in ages!
I really really _really_ wish you had've stayed somewhere discreet for a while to see what became of the lift engineer (7:52). :D Also, next time something is as confusing as that fencing (which I presume you've figured out by now), put a ton of photos into the video!
What's the purpose of having a random button? It's pretty fun though, but I'm trying to think of a reason why they put it there. Someone who made the decision must have had a good reason for that. Imagine the building design meeting between the owner, architect and Otis' project manager... The building owner must have said, oh, I want to have this nifty feature, a button that takes people to a random floor. And the architect and the project engineer saying, oh right, whatever. Maybe it's a test feature to see if the floor selector is working.
Imagine that elevator have some locked floors... and it randomly selected such a floor...If that was an ecodisc doing so, it would not randomly select an locked floor or failing to do so. I came across a machineroom of an ecomod, and the basement was locked off. so I could not even sent the elevator to the basement trough the elevator controller...
What does the eco mod logic look like. Is it very similar to ecodisc cabinet logic. Ecodiscs say NOCALL if you try to send it to locked floor from cabinet. I still need to find the manual to understand the coded menu on ecodiscs.
It is hard to find the manual. It is only kept among KONE engineers and no other engineers have access to it in order to navigate around the structure and thus cannot modify the lift to customers benefits. It's Products secret y'know... Basically, the knowledge I have for an ecodisc logic is shared among average engineer, unless you're an KONE employee. The Ecomod I came across was basically an OTIS Series 1 elevator turned into an ecodisc. The machineroom was located on the top floor next to the shaft, so the old elevator had the same wire arrangement as an average Ecodisc has, so it was easy to convert it into MRL. The logic cabinet was of the same design as of an average ecodisc, like an older MRL that used to have the logic in the cabinet, and not in the shaft like nowdays. I didn't look it troughtfully as I am not really intrested in theese modern stuff. I just wished theese elevators stayed original.
But what if a KONE engineer starts working for another lift company.... then he can share the knowledge around, or do they have to sign an NDA? I've seen that a company in the netherlands sells special unlock tool (see company website: www.programmeertool.nl/Kone%20Monospace%20LCE%20KNX.htm) that allows generic lift engineers to mess about with a KONE controller and allows them to diagnose them without needing the official KONE tools. They seem to sell similair tools for OTIS as well....
The only lift I have heard the "please select your floor" message was in a 1960s lecture theatre (the lift had been retrofitted). One oddity was that it announced the basement as "first basement" suggesting that there was a James Bond style underground layer below it. This may have been possible as the basement was only a few steps below street level (ground floor was in line with a 60s podium level covering an "underground" car park). Unfortunately the Otis from late 1990s (or early 2000s) is probably the one that has the oldest cab, buttons and controller in the 5 60s buildings connected by the podium. No random button when I used it- however the university now employs Chris Speed who invented the button
To break safet either unlatch and outer door, press a stop button, or open the inner doors. Do not open the inner doors when approaching a floor as you might get them out of sync. Some very cheap chinese logics, and some 80s logics from the early days of electronics get very confused. All other logics ar fine.
I don't give out locations of lifts I surf just to be on the safe side. I don't give out locations of old lifts to stop lift engineer cunts pestering the building owner about modernizing it (although there are no old lifts in the video). The random lift is in the university at Portland square. In one of the modern buildings.
@@benolifts Update: coming back to this video 2 years later I'm now a student at that very uni and am in Portland Square a lot! Will have to check it out! :D
I actually quite like OTIS Gen2's, the buttons are nice and they do seem to be fairly reliable. Although most probably most lifts in Plymouth are Gen2s
I have not reported Ben to anybody. I was simply trying to get some advice from some friends however I am speaking to Ben directly now and I have removed the post as it is no longer necessary
and I have removed the post. I don't think u understand the situation Ben has gotten in. he has as you can see in the video he recently posted. it's not him. it is these kids. they don't have the judgement he has. Ben appears to be very safety minded.
It is an AC VF drive. There seems to be some 100 hz hum which makes it sound a bit buzzy. The class 319 has DC motors and uses PWM. This has no similarities to this lift.
4:00 YAYYY!!! Oakland Oakland Oakland Oakland Oakland Oakland Oakland Oakland can I stop saying this now? ugh whatever Oakland Oakland OAKLLLLLAAAANNNDDD!!!! This is sarcasm as I would never touch an Oakland!
The lift with the random button is awesome, whoever came up with that knows what us lift enthusiasts like!
like me
Yeah but you musn't watch it
the random button is a great idea. unfolding lift fence lets the car top controls function.
That random button not what you see on a elevator usually and I do like that " please select your floor" anouncements
Haha! Someone designed this lift just for you!! A random button, excellent idea!
Random button? Wow!
This button is useful when a school builds a building for clubs in each floor, kids can randomly select one
there are some of the original Otis gen 2's in the Dundee over gate car ark but it doesn't have a random button

The last lift is an Otis 2000VF
I have an old video of that lift in Sainsburys before it was modernised if your interested

I do remember seeing a shuffle button on one of the elevators.

maybe I can do a voice over sometime
this will be awesome :D
DieselDucy get bens attention then
Yes! Please do one! XD
That random button is a really random feature.
Another one of your awsome videos Beno! Keep it up :D
Where are the random button lifts in?
In the university
i really want to safty brake a dodgy lift but im worried about getting stuck or the left refuzing to move lol how do u saft brake a gen2 ?

My favourite Otis 2000 voice messages are "please select your floor(3:37)," "going up (2:55)" and "2nd floor(3:30)."
1:12 “FIRST FLOOR”
8:00 Has he solved the problem on that lift?
Could you tell us where you found each of these lifts? Since I live in Plymouth it would be cool if I could go and find those lifts :)

Ah, you have a cold! That's why you had other people doing the voiceovers haha ;-) Must be a long cold, haha
lol nice prediction
Where is the O&K moded lift
1:34 did he/she say 6th floor?
random button FTW!
I've got a cold too...
Awesome Video
Yep, Kei says it the best.
What is the point of a random button?
It's fun.
I always catch a cold when November comes in. *sniffs*
Take a cold shower every day. You'll never catch a cold again! :)
r is for random floor!
Yayyy Plymouth!! My city!! :D
same here!
Your going to pull the safety gear in doing that one day. MRL's don't like crashing.
the lift at 2:20 is amazingly glitched :D
There’s a Wilkinson’s next to that last lift
Why don't you like Gen 2's? They are not bog standard they are really nice. Who could say that about an OTIS Gen 2?
Non intellegent leveling, doesnt open its doors before it stops, shaft door protection...
restricted logic...
failsingermany So I love Gen 2's
I think one of my favorite things about the OTIS Gen 2 and Otis 2000 are the buttons, the shape of them and the ring of light around the button.

nice to hear u r voice again
...says the person who reported Ben...
I have not reported Ben to anybody. I was simply trying to get some advice from some friends however I am speaking to Ben directly now and I have removed the post as it is no longer necessary
sending a link to one of Ben´s videos to a group full of lift enginners is not much different to reporting him

Wow he actually went to Plymouth were I live
This is safe to do.
