I attended the Uhuru 3 trial yesterday (Thursday, 9/12/2024) at the Tampa Federal Courthouse. I have also attended EVERY day of the Uhuru 3 trial since the beginning on Tuesday (9/3/2024). I also took notes as best I could. I attended the trial of the Uhuru 3 in support of their First Amendment Free Speech Rights.
I was there when the jury came out with their verdict yesterday (Thursday, 9/12/2024). For the charge pertaining to being a Foreign Agent - 18 U.S. Code Section 951 - the jury found the Uhuru 3 defendants NOT Guilty, which I was very happy about, because this charge if one is convicted carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
But...for the charge of Conspiracy - 18 U.S. Code Section 371 - to become a Foreign Agent and sow discord in the USA, the jury tragically and wrongfully found the Uhuru 3 and Romaine defendants GUILTY! I thought this was a HORRIBLE, WRONG, and LOUSY decision on the part of the jury since ALL the activities the defendants did fell well within the First Amendment Free Speech Rights! It's obvious the jurors have NO IDEA what is meant by First Amendment Free Speech rights and would not know it if it hit them in their heads!
The silver lining is the defendants were found Guilty on the so-called phony crime of "Conspiracy - 18 U.S. Code Section 371 - to become a Foreign Agent and sow discord in the USA" that carries a maximum of 5 years in jail - the lesser of the two phony crimes the defendants were charged with. And... as one or more of the defense attorneys commented in this video:
    1) There are NO guidelines as to what the correct sentence should be because this phony Conspiracy charge is RARELY used by the federal government to charge people with. (Note: I heard the judge state also that there are NO sentencing guidelines for this Conspiracy charge that the defendants were found guilty.)
    2) The wording of this Conspiracy law is unclear; thus, the reason it is rarely prosecuted.
    3) Since this Conspiracy federal statue is RARELY used, there is no precedence to which the judge could go by to place a punishment. Since no real precedence has been set, this might actually work in favor of the defendants, because NO minimum sentencing guidelines have been established. Thus, the judge could theoretically give the defendants a soft punishment like time already served, probation, very small time in jail like one month, etc.
In the end, I thought the verdict from the jurors was COMPLETE GARBAGE as this was a CLEAR case of First Amendment that should have been protected. The jurors obviously were ignorant with respect to First Amendment Free Speech rights! I am VERY saddened, angry, and upset that the jury FAILED to do the right thing by FAILING to come to the only correct verdict that should have been made: NOT GUILTY on ALL the charges!
