No way that would fly only with 4 engines.
Could your next video be the Saunders row Queen or the Vickers Victory Bomber?
EDIT:
I can't believe I'm saying this but the Saunders row Queen is far less outlandish then the aircraft in this video.
could you make a video on the antonov AN-218? it was meant to replace the IL-86 and be launched in 1994 but it was cancelled due to severe economic conditions, the closest this plane got to being built was a wooden replica of the fuselage but that was also eventually scrapped
This thing is definitly not an Aircraft, that´s for sure. But i feel one could develop it into a Spaceship. Just replace the old Reactor with a Thorium powered one, make it able to Take off and Land on Water and finalize it by fitting it with something more powerfull then a Rocketbooster and you have it
*This plane is freakin' massive that it needs not one, not even two, but three videos*
Its not massive it's comically BIG
Let’s just hope it doesn’t need a fourth video…
Megamungus
And more than 10 times larger runway
Imagine missing your connecting flight because 18,000 people were getting off the plane at the same time as you
And the airport would have to be huge to connect between two of these haha
The concept is much more suited for interstellar space ships than airplanes,
Unless the plane is a cargo plane ✈️
@@FoundAndExplained
Have you forgotten about the secret humongous spy plane version of this one?
More likely the actual limit would be much lower, given "Everyone needs to be able to get off the plane in ninety seconds through half the doors. Including opening those doors and deploying escape slides."
the fact that this is a real concept and not just a 7 year old drawing a plane from memory, makes me think that pretty much anything can be a "realistic" concept
Make it... "Ehh🤷♂️" big, and give it... "Ehh 🤷♂️" range, and make sure to carry a payload of... A lot.
TRUE
I mean when I saw the helicarrier in the Avengers movie go from aircraft carrier to flying machine for a tiny moment a part of me thought "hey that's a good idea!" so why not? 🤣
I redesigned an arena into a giant powered hookah (huge bowl on top) and an aquatic center into a giant martini making machine, complete with it's own ajoining ice making factory.
Bored engineers put a lot of things to paper.
I do think the hookah would have lowered violent crime though.
I disagree. The biggest factor to "realistic" concept is the ability to get funded. Especially by the government.
As plane volume scales up... getting a window seat becomes more and more like winning the lottery.
2:01 Thank you for flying RyanAir. Last year, over 90% of our passengers survived.
Wait, what happened to the 10%?
@@ultramanJR ain't it obvious?

I just wonder how this thing will be refuelled in the air or ground, it has a large size and it WILL definitely need an entire squad of tankers just for this beast of a plane
It is nuclear powered so it wouldn’t be refueled per say
@@FoundAndExplainedI know, I just forgot by the time I'm writing this
@@FoundAndExplainedHow long is its service life before the reactor dies out?
@@criscarzuniga1781Reactors can be refueled.

This is such a great channel, and the Australian accent makes me love it even more.
Thank you so much for watching!
18,000 seats? Yeah, I could totally see Japan Airlines cramming in another 2 thousand seats and flying this thing domestically on the 1-hour flight between Tokyo and Nagoya.
It’s bigger than Godzilla ‼️
And they still would need 5 more of these
This plane is positive proof of what happens when a bunch of engineers are downing pints at the pub.
Since you said the plane could fly 41 days straight, I assume this limitation comes from food and water for the people on board and not the nuclear fuel. Now if that thing could strap one or two NERVA egnines onto it, it could probably be used for fly colonists to a new moon-colony, haha.
Two ideas to toss into the mix. Could the airframe be modified to be a flying boat. It would solve the runway problem. Secondly if rather than flying point to point, it could be on an orbital flight with smaller jets (707, 777) meeting up with yet. Add in the idea of it being more like an Airship/Cruise ship, with cabins rather than those claustrophobic 20 inch seats, and you might be going somewhere. If you drop it from 18,000 to 9000 or 10,000 ; or even as low as 5000 passengers. It's still pie in the sky though.
The fact this is smaller than the other flying cruise ship yet it holds more than 2x it’s passengers is insane..
Well, that is due to flights usually being rather short, ships can take weeks and sometimes, months to get to their destination.
What if Stratolaunch was turned into passenger plane? I mean you could fit a huge cabin between those two fuselages.
Ah the Stratolaunch. The craft that reminds us, we aren't actually too far off from this than first thought.
Would there be a passenger pod in the middle of the two fuselages or in the two fuselages themselves?
Which end would you board the plane from?
How about converting the SR-71 into a passenger plane?
The PANAM aircraft depicted as parked next to it was a 707, but the aircraft in flight with it being called a 707, was not. It was a 135 which Boeing designated as a 717. slightly smaller thana 707.
Thank you for that correction
@@FoundAndExplainedHang on……but the Boeing RC-135 “Joint Rivet” (ELINT?) was the military version of the Boeing 707. To the best of my knowledge, the later versions of the MD-90 series (MD-95) were also known as the Boeing 717 when McDonnell Douglas was merged with Boeing.
The RC-135 “Joint Rivet” was never officially known or designated as the Boeing 717.
Additionally it would have needed at least one enormous runway to take off from and land if some sort of maintenance is required.
Maintenance ? Oh boy, just imagine the hundreds or thousands of engineers this thing would have required XD
7:03
18,000 passengers??? This could start a colony if this mega plane be used in space exploration in finding new planets to terraform.
It’s pretty much a Star Trek space ship
There is one way to help maximize space on board, and that is to use the wings. Like a twin reactor system in the wings instead of a single one in the fuselage.
Legit could make a pretty good sci-fi movie with all these cool concepts.
18.000 Passengers, that’s insane even everyone know this monster CL-1201, it is not enough people at the Airport but only Military personal with 18.000 Troops is enough for Deployment.
Any video with the CL-1201 is a great one. ^^
Technically you could have less walkways between the seating rows..
You could have arranged it at 3 seats(for the windows) + walkway + 6 seats + walkway + 6 seats + walkway... etc
This would remove 4 walkways and provide more space for even more rows of seats.
I was gonna say the same thing 😅
and you could easily fit two levels of seats inside the front of the wings like some consepts had.
Thanks, Found And Explained.😊
Having Phantoms hanging off the wings is just the icing on the cake. Lol
If that thing can fly from Australia/Asia to Europe, Europe to USA & USA to Australia/Asia with so many passengers the price of a ticket is cheaper it would beat direct flight competition on long trips even if it had convensional jets.
If that thing can build,
Humanity would have much faster hypersonic jet power by small powerful nuclear reactors that will outcompete this.
The sheer size make it more a cruiser ship but on air instead
Video Idea : i think you should design your own plane, (as they get the most views) more likely at large plane bigger than the A380 or 747 or just whatever your dream plane would be and walkthrough it
Or, let us viewers invent some concepts, and submit them consideration to each other. I'm sure there are many seeds of innovation that these videos spark. Imagine the possibilities.
How about a plane that can be towed by birds?
@@adastra7939I'm sorry but this idea is literally impossible and even if it was it'd be pointless
Ok, how about a spaceplane fighter?
A supersonic helicopter?
I don't think impracticality is all about size, but more likely when the plane needs to refuel every 41 days, since it's using nuclear reactor, aerial refueling like conventional jets are out of option, not only that, if the plane literally "destroy the runway everytime it needs to take off or landing", the operational costs are too expensive, even if the plane operate as "flying Luxury Cruise Ship"
nuclear rectors dont need refueling
The 41 day limit is for food and water for the crew/passengers. Given its nuclear reactor it's range is virtually limitless like a nuclear sub or aircraft carrier. Tho the issue of landing for any kind of maintence is still a big issue.
i'm thinking that those fighter hardpoints could be used for some sort of "escape pods" also with an additional walkway added inside the wings
Project Wingman (indy game) has aircraft like this that are used as airliners and military aircraft alike
Imagine Ryanair operating this thing.
I have always wanted this video!
flight attendants running a marathon to give you your peanuts
The full fat passenger version with all the mod cons is basically the modern iteration of Airline Number 4 designed by norman bel geddes :D
Really love the video, really an incredible aircraft if built. Wonder if we could see a video on the Ye-115?
I have that dejavu thing were I watched a video on this plane on nebula and now I see it here
An RC model of this with real jets must be made. In fact most of the planes mentioned in this channel need rc models to test if they can fly.
As a retired Aircraft mechanic all i see is a Maintenace NIGHTMARE
Found and Explained always come in handy when I’m eating breakfast
that thing would practically be a flying movie theatre
Wait, you assume that aisle is needs every 3 seats. But if you have aisles from both sides, cant you use 4 seat grouped together (apart for external rows)? You even showed configuration like this at 5:06
if you think the size of this plane is absurd you need to watch the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise as they have massive planes that can transport an army of 18 meter tall robots and still have room for the personnel and amenities such as a cafeteria and medical bays, also the planes are shown to land on water instead of a runway.
You made 3 videos on this plane, something tells me this is your favorite plane.
You could add additional space in the wings
I have an idea for what to do with those fighters simply convert those into escape pods another issue you have to solve is how are you going to refuel the reactor because U-235 decays when used that way shuttles can bring the fuel but how will you get the fuel where you need it safely and also have those shuttles bring food and water so all you need to do is get the plane in the air then you don’t have to worry about it.
a submarine hunting aircraft? Probably to swoop down and gobble them up? There's a James bond plot for ya
B.U.F.F. Infinite. The sky train idea with this plane is completely impractical. Forget the VTOL feature destroying runways, the turbulence this thing would generate in its wake would destroy any other plane that got near it.
What about a video on the gulfstream peregrine?
I have an idea, that could be like a flying city, there will be few planes connecting so people can exit and enter the aircraft.
Russian guy: look at little baby plane!
Can someone explain why nuclear power only is available at 16000 ft and a standard jet would be needed for lower attitudes? One would think that it is available at all heights albeit with specific levels of efficiency…
10:48 is the fuel stored in the entire length of the (grey) wings or is there also space for storage or personal
There's no chemical fuel in the wings, the plane uses a nuclear reactor in the fuselage
Ok please do a video about su-37 and su-57
We making it to open TTD with this one 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Another factor to consider thanks to safety regulations: emergency exits, or lack thereof, in the middle areas. IIRC, FAA requires proof that all passengers and crew can be evacuated safely within 90 seconds. Oof.
but what's the problem with nuclear flight happening from zero altitude? if that's just how it was supposed to work as a project, i'm ok with it... however if it's not explicitly stated, i can't see why it can't fly entirely on it's own reactor thus eliminating it's need for any chemical fuel. i mean, outside conditions don't affect the fission process at all (or if it's, for example, about cooling than it may be even easier at lower altitudes due to higher air density and thus it being able to absorb more heat per same volume)
Finally, the CL-1201 Trilogy! Now, I can rest.
"no madder how many turrets you stick on it it is begging to be shot down" -droopy
I’m just imagining the lack of the airfield that is needed to lift off and to land as it seems rather special and no vertical takeoff visible. I imagine It would fly forever.
It would make a good transatlantic roll on roll off auto ferry.
All of them
Besides the laborious nightmare of boarding and disembarking all those people in a normal situation--if you can call it normal--imagine an emergency. A huge number of panicking people in a confined space equals big death toll.
Bro has the new spruce goose
Can you do a video on TIGER TANK USED BY THE PAINTER DUTING WW2 OR ANY OTHER WEAPONS USED BY GERMANS LOVE THEM
the cl is basically if we put ocean cruisers in the air.
Is that weight based on original materials or modern ones?
18,000?!? That's larger than my home town.
People forget that LAX essentially has four alternate airports. ONT, BUR, SNA, and LGB.
That's a case of putting almost all of your eggs in one basket.
I think a much more realistic way to board passengers would be building stupidly huge runways in the middle of nowhere and have the CL-123 take off and land comventionally. These airports could be connected to nearby cities or the rest of the country via a high speed rail line.
This plane can take off vertically.
@@adastra7939 yes however did you not hear the part where he said that it would completely obliterate the runway if it took off vertically?
Just don’t use any runways at all. Have it take off in a flat, open area with no obstacles.
How powerful are these VTOL engines anyways?
@@adastra7939 I have no freaking idea since this thing was never even built. But given the fact it is the largest plane ever designed it’s safe to say it would likely be many times the amount of thrust generated by the Apollo 11 rocket.
So, a couple of things that jumped out at me.
-What about the wings? It's nuclear powered, so surely the wings aren't all fuel tank. You should be able to use that space for more passengers like one of the old junkers aircraft.
-There is no way you are flying this point to point, so why not remodel some of easier to expand airports (Denver, Amsterdam, etc.) to be able to handle one of these planes landing and treat them like super hubs. This is essentially what they did for the 747 and the A380 after all.
-If you are using it like flying cruise ship and loading and unloading it through the support aircraft, it won't need to spend any time below 16,000 feet (except for landing every month or so), so it won't be consuming very much fuel at all.
-I think I heard somewhere that 80% of the world's population lives within 100 miles (~150 km for the civilized) of a coastline. You could get a few of these planes to repeatedly fly around the world tracing the coastline and having the support aircraft break of at appropriate times for the (usually) short flight to the passengers actual destination. Every day 2000 jets cross the Atlantic between Europe and North America. Using this system, you could condense that down to a few giant flights across the ocean, and a bunch of flights breaking off at each end. Once a month or so, you could land the thing at a specially designed base for servicing and stagger the service so you only need one base for every 30 aircraft.
I feel like you didn't really think about the practicalities of this, I'm a bit disappointed.
10:16 How about a fusion reactor?
Nuclear technology has come a long way since this plane was designed. Pebble bed reactors are much smaller and lighter, and do not require water for cooling, which would make the footprint of the off-limits area inside the aircraft. It's also possible that due to advances in engine technology, nuclear power wouldn't even be necessary. If you use the engines from a Boeing 777, which are incredibly large and ultra efficient ( and produce 115,000 of take-off thrust each), you could probably replace the nuclear turbines with maybe eight of them (?) and have a very long range conventional aircraft that burns regular fuel (Greta Thonsberg just went into convulsions). It looks like that without the nuclear component, you'd gain another 35-40% of usable internal volume.
I got rather confused by all the imperial measurements and left unsure why you only did imperial?
Imagine how many cans of ginger ale need to be loaded 😮
I immediately think will maintenance be done mid air?
If anyone could build it, it would be Lockheed.
Was watching realifelore, until I found out it was an hour long, so I watched this, was it worth it? Hell yeah.
It's a very good idea 💡 it'll change the face of the world
I couldn’t watch the entire video because I was pressed for time but the whole nuclear power idea I thought was tried years ago when everyone was going Atomic Energy Crazy….even Ford had an idea for a nuclear powered civilian vehicle. Oh lord, could you just imagine the problems that that would most certainly have caused? Anyway, I thought the studies showed, and even concepts were made up in several different countries for this type of propulsion, but the thickness of the shielding for the sake of keeping the operators and crew free from radiation was so thick and heavy that it was impractical?
I always get mixed up between found and explained and Mustard.
literally a flying cruise liner at that point
11:05 the toilets? They will do a big good for nature, fertilizing the ground from above... 🤣🤣🤣
naah, there is no mandatory every three row of seat must have an aisle... remember b747 with 3-5-3 seating arrangement? actually, if you want to exclude "double excuse me" with 3-5-3, then it should be 2-4-2 just for the convinience.. 😁 so imagine that it could be 3-5-5-5-5-3 or 2-4-4-4-4-4-2 something for seating arrangement 😁
Hahaha you monster!
THE GIANT TRIPLE DECKER
one question, how much runway does this behemoth need?
From a practical commercial angle, it would probably be impossible to find 18,000 paying passengers (or even 9,000) who all want to fly to the same place on the same day in any metropolitan area in the world, making this huge plane completely unprofitable.
The problem with this plane being an airliner, is that as an air, inertial, people would not want to ride on it. Many many of us like window seats. If we don’t have window seats we don’t want it as airliner. It’s one of the biggest reasons why the c5 galaxy isn’t one.
They could save space and weight by remove the landing gears and making it float instead.
Not like you can land that anywhere anyways except large bodies of water.
Can the VTOL engines work when submerged?
Seems like it would be a sitting duck for a missile
We're gonna need a bigger runway
Nuclear power don't last forever either, so sooner or later it would have to land for refueling and maintanence.
It would be so loud in there with that many people…
I'm surprised it isn't the CL1701.
1:51 -- linked down below where? They're not in the description and the algorithm only put one of them in the suggested videos section, "The INSANE Largest Aircraft Ever Designed". It was the ninth video down the list for me, but it'll be different for someone else.
having a fleet of cruising nuclear cities sounds like the best idea ever, this idea is the bomb
seems like how to loose a war to a flock of birds
By comparison, an 800- to 1000-passenger version of the Boeing 747 Dreamlifter ("1000 Passengers On A 747 - Boeing Dreamlifter Passenger Version", March 25, 2021) with cabin pressurization and windows installed would have been more practical.
