  • The hunt for a larger horse power tractor continues and it rained so Tractor Time with Tim finally had a chance to visit our local John Deere Dealer. Reynolds Farm Equipment was really busy but Alan took time to show us the 3 and 4 series compact utility tractors. Nothing runs like a Deere!

We love our 3039r! It is the best investment we’ve ever made, just as maneuverable as the old Kubota, but has a cab, which doubles as protection from bees while brush-hogging. Only time we’ve ever run out of power was trying to pull a 2-bottom plow through pretty well solid ground. Loader has enough power to pick up the rear of the tractor. Make sure you get the air suspension seat! Well worth the money! Only thing I wish it had was the power reverser transmission. That’s just what I was used to...

I've been to the fishers JD and found they are to busy to offer good customer service.. I ended up getting a 2018 2038r from greenfield JD and I love it. The sales guy was very helpful and help make sure I got every rebate possibly and I walked away very satisfied with the transaction. I looked at the 3 series E and ended up getting the big body 2r because I wanted the removable loader and the size was perfect for my needs. Good luck Tim I know you're getting a Deere buddy you ain't fooling me!

Glad to hear you’re keeping your 1025. The new, bigger tractor will be a great addition to your fleet of equipment. Your videos featuring Casey have been very informative and helpful. It helped me decide between a backhoe attachment or a mini excavator. Purchased a used Kubota KX 41 excavator last week. Absolutely love it! Keep the videos coming!
    Cheers from Saskatchewan!

Some very nice tractors there at Reynolds. My favorite store to shop in. When I got my quote from them I thought it was very fair with all the discounts. It makes it very hard to buy used since every one want new prices. Did you notice the leg room difference on any of the other brand you tested? Christie, for the people that worry about you tearing up their yard, tell them to use a shove. But then most of them don't have a shovel.

Tim, I had a John Deere 3720 Cab tractor that is much like the others you looked at in this video. Overall it was a great tractor but there were some downsides to it.
Bush-hogging, I still had to constantly get out of the cab and clean off the grill because the engine would overheat if I didn't. Likewise due to the clogging of the grill, the AC in the cab didn't work hardly at all in our hot, humid summers. I ended up spending most of my time with the back window open and letting the dirt fly in while cutting to get air. It wasn't an AC issue because once I cleaned the grill out and let it idle for a bit it blew cold air out of the vents. It is just poorly designed for that use. Now, having heat in the winter... That was nice... . Especially when you had to clear snow or help someone get unstuck out of the ditch in ice storms.
Mine was loaded with 3rd, 4th and 5th functions for TopnTilt, 4n1 bucket/grapple, etc and it worked really well for that but watch for leaks on the back where the connectors go. Mine also had the Mid PTO with the 7 iron Autoconnect 72" Deck. That thing will flat mow a yard, but the tractor was too heavy to use mowing after a rain. It would create ruts and depressions on the paths you took even a couple of days after clear weather. I ended up going back to the ZTrack mower we have.
I miss the tractor and wish I had not sold it. I took a beating on the purchase, especially with all the equipment it had on it and with it.
I had the Backhoe with it as well and it was great but I really wish that I had gotten the 4 series with all the same options so I could also add the self leveling bucket and the Backhoe to it. It has a neat feature that lets to crawl the tractor forward while setting at the dig station on the backhoe. Very nice but since you have Casey, that is not as critical.
My biggest gripe with the JDs is the direction of the air intake where it clogs the grill all the time when in brush and mowing. If they can ever fix that, I would be happy. But so far 3 of the tractors I have had with JDs name on them have all done the same thing.
    Good luck in your purchase!

Looks like the new 3 series has followed kubota with an auto throttle? Nice feature if so. Nice looking tractor. I would always want a cab if given a choice but I get the visibility is an issue. I can tell you that you do get to know the tractor and get used to running them with cabs . Nothing beats working in extreme temps and being comfortable. Awesome verse at the end. Thanks for the video

Hi Tim , great videos . Not sure if you do a lot of winter work , but having a heated cab is wonderful . Keep up the good work .

Tim I would go with the 3046r. Small frame size 46 horsepower. You can't go wrong! I bought the 3033r 2 years ago, the only regret is I didn't go with max horsepower for frame size. I do love my 3033r, but some implements do need more horsepower! I've been watching you videos before I bought my tractor. Keep the videos coming!!

I have a JD 3046R. It replaced a 4310. The new 3046R has the power and the extra lifting capacity I need. I get pallets of pails of syrup. The pails are double stacked or 24 pails per pallet or about 1500 lbs. with the pallet. I could never lift the pallet of syrup with the 4310 but the 3046R can lift the pallet off my trailer and into the garage. The 3046R is very smooth in operation, bucket works great for dirt work. Mostly I use forks for moving material in my business and blowing snow with my 3 point JD snowblower. We had a 14 inch snowfall last April and I was able to blow the snow and snow drifts without any problems. The 3046R is an open station. I have been very pleased with the 3046R it has worked great. Get the 3rd function valve and the LED lights.

Call the new deere Little John! I had the 1025r and recenlty switched over to the 3025e and am very happy. Night and day difference. With the bigger sized engine and chassis, you can definitely feel that it is more tractor. I liked the 1025r but i love this 3025e. Anything you want, you can just add on later like air seats.

Just so you know on the 3033,3039, and 3046R tractors you can get the 14.4 gallon per minute hydraulic pump and that means that you are able to get a front skid steer mount system and get a front snow blower and be able to tackle snow drifts over 3 feet high and have a grapple and get a front broom

I have a 2032R @2400lbs plus loader and anything else you might add it is too heavy for yard work until mid summer. Leaves ruts in the lawn. I think Johnny fits the bill perfectly for what you use him for. I would go large 3 or 4 series for other than back yard work my 2032 has to do both so it is a compromise on both ends. as far as getting work done, I love my 2032r because of versatility and speed of being small but it lacks a little in hydraulics. I went with 32 rather than 38 because I don't need horsepower and didn't want a turbo. In each series the upper horsepower is the the same engine but with turbo added for increased horsepower.
I watched most of your videos, before choosing my tractor and would have gone with the 1025r except I need larger wheel diameters for rougher terrain.
Hope to see you stay John Deere and hope you make a good choice for you.
By the way, I called my 2032 Little John until we bought a John deere riding mower (because the tractor is too big and too heavy) now the mower is little John and the tractor is Big John and the grandson has an electric tractor called Tiny.

I’ve had a 3039R I bought new since 2014, it’s a cab model and is JD’s smallest cab tractor that runs a belly mower. I wanted to mow with AC but it’s a tight cab for me at 6’2. I’ve since added all LED lights. It’s a great little tractor that is far nicer then any competition. I started it in -13 unplugged this winter (never run it in winter) and it fired right up. If your on flat ground get narrow tires, steering will be much tighter.

John Deere makes a 3 function single point loader attachment. Think it's first available with a loader on a 5 series. I know that at least with the 4R and I believe the 3R that with the Cab there isn't space for the 2 function single point attachment. With that open station 3 series I'm sure you could parts counter a 3 function coupler. They are sweet! Hopefully y'all add Big John to the stable!

Cab is the only way to go makes every operation less dirty. I have a 1963 830 case thats an open station and I did some rotary mowing with it when it was a little dry and I told myself never again will I mow with that tractor when I can mow in the climate controlled cab of my 3720. I understand your concern of being able to communicate with each other on jobs. But I think the guy that had the idea of getting radios to communicate with each other would solve the cab communication problem and solve the openstation issues like freezing in the winter and sweating to death in the summer let alone eating dust from mowing tilling and material moving.

They have spent more time in the shop than anything we have ever owned. Front axles seals don’t last, Hydrolics leak off, Hydrolic pumps leak oil just sitting on dealer lots, and the plastic hoods are super cheap for a tractor that cost what it does. The 72 inch auto connect deck is awesome tho

Unfortunately I don't think the singlepoint hydraulic coupler is available on the 3 series. My folks have a 3039 and looked into that since the loader connections are a pain to reconnect and the dealer said that wasn't available. They do have the rear scv with the button on the joystick. Dad just runs his grapple hoses to that and it works great. He also picked up a jd to skid steer quick attach plate so he can use his pallet forks larger grapple and other accessories he has for his 5203.

The gussets on the 4R loader pins upper and lower are because I broke 2 off of 4 series. The 2 valves in the back that run off the levers are prone to breaking the cable housing on the valve behind the rear tire and they have no idea why. And I’m on my second front axle on my 4052r cab tractor.

1025R and 2038R have the best joystick controls for the front end loader. I won't even look at a tractor if it has the long control coming out of the base of the tractor or connected to the loader itself.

Always enjoying your videos, one thing is missing, the prices on the tractors that you talk about.
    Thank you in advance

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  5 лет назад +1

Very difficult to give accurate prices. The "Suggested Retail Price" is often very far from the actual selling price. Also, each brand discounts their MSRP differently. So, there is really no way to know what you can get one of these tractors for unless you talk to your local dealer.
Out of respect for the local dealers, we did not publish their personal quotes to this world-wide audience.
Sorry for that, but we can't fix this issue.
      Make sense?

Based on size and weight I like the looks of the 2038R. It's a little bigger than Johnny but has 37Hp (PTO of 30) I like it can still be loaded and moved to the job without much fuss. I have an older 3005 JD that is rated at 27/24Hp and I would love to have that 37/30Hp sometimes. From the videos, I have watched and types of jobs you guys do the 2038R would run circles around bigger tractors. As it goes with the cab or no cab I like the interaction you guys have with your customers so I would say no cab. This is just me, in the end, your going to have to live with and pay for it so pick whats right for you and your needs.

Most guys will tell you to buy it cause its green so i just hope you go with what feels and fits the best for your jobs and as a operator also as to what the dealer does fo you is what all makes the deal in the end ... Deere can sell but they dont have anything that makes it cutting edge over the others lol

Hey Tim and Christy, Have you stopped by Roudebush Implements in Westfield yet? Give Brian a chance to show you around at the Massey Ferguson choices. I love your videos as I have been doing the same chores as you for along time. Happy hunting. Thanks, Al.

The lower holes on the cutter are not in alignment for the imatch quick hitch. They are offset just slightly, using the imatch would mean you always need to have a tilt with the back of the cutter in the air.

I am voting for the 2038R. I have a 2008 3005JD that is a little larger than the 2038R but only has 27/24Hp and the 2038R has 37/30Hp. Plus they have added a lot of nice things over the years that make using a tractor less like work.

Go 2038r. I went with the 1025r and regret not getting the bigger tractor. I now have the 3025e and it is head and shoulders better than the 1025r. So much more capablity!

FINALLY! The video we’ve all been waiting for! After watching all of your dealership visits, I still have no clue how people would choose anything over a deere. Salesmen and dealers aside, the tractors are just so much more ergonomic and simple, straight forward, but still high quality.
Out of all your test drives, my favorites are the Deere, yanmar, and Kioti tractors. Nothing runs like a deere!

I don’t work in the same situations as you but I definitely end up getting myself into tight places. We have a John Deere 3720 (3046R) with the cab or should I say my dad does and I’m lucky enough to be able to use it as I’m young and living at home. I think you would be fine on many of your projects with the 3000 series but I can see your reasoning for keeping and continuing to use Johnny. Also ours has the 72 drive over mower deck and we remove the front loader so that we can use the tractor for mowing our lawn. Once your used to the size of the tractor it’s not bad mowing with it especially in the air conditioning. We also use it in the woods clearing down trees and don’t have much of a problem at least in my area. I would be interested in seeing how a kubota loader joystick feels as Messicks has pointed out how much easier it is to do 2 functions at once. Do you know if all the 3 series tractors come with the more of a handle style grip on the loader joystick? I believe that’s for the factory 3rd function kit but I couldn’t imagine all of those tractors have that installed already. Appreciate your time making these videos and responding to comments! They are a great pass time for me!
