I am very familiar with Bedford. It was like a second home for my wife, son and I back in the 90's and early 2000's. We had a small shack up in the mountains very near to the now renovated Springs hotel. Ed's steak House and the Carriage House were our favorite restaurants. We made friends with a lot of great people during those times. I bowhunted near Buffalo Mills and we frequented Shawnee. We sold our property in 04 and bought a lot near Shawnee in Manns Choice. We had plans to build a small cottage on the lot, but my wife got sick with cancer and passed the following year and the plans died with her. I was naturally devastated and could not visit Bedford for a long time, but a big part of my heart is still in Bedford County. Nice video. Thank You
Hi Cliff. Very sad to hear about losing your dear wife - I can but imagine your loss. I hope since you have found the strength to carry on successfully. I am very fond of this county and the town. In recent times Ed's has closed and not sure what the future is for the building. Also, again recent, Clara's Place and Arena have been torn down - no idea what might happen to the sites. In fact, the interchange has now changed quite a lot, with Hardies gone and a large Sheetz gas station there. All best wishes, Chris.
Nicely done...I grew up in Breezewood...a trip to Bedford was big thing back in the day....took and passed my drivers license exam in a building that housed the motor vehicle dept in March 1962...that was just beyond where you made a left turn to cross over from Penn to Pitt...snowfall had been huge....my now wife...fiance at the time and I ...went into the Church that you show at about the 8 minute point and said a prayer just prior to me leaving for Vietnam in 1966....lots of great memories in Bedford and Bedford County...Thanks for capturing the essence !!
Hi Larry. Thank you - glad you enjoyed it. Dept of Motor vehicles is now down on Mile Level - which is also way different now since a huge Route 30 project of widening - also the Narrows bridge has had a huge facelift a few years ago. Judging by your various dates I am guessing your age is not very far off mine (DOB '45) - glad you made it thru 'Nam and thank you for your service - at the time sadly not very well appreciated. Take care, Chris. :)
I live in Bedford County, except up in the farming area in the north. Everyone is friendly, my neighbors are like family, & we make each other different meals from time to time. This is a small county, with very low crime rate, & most everyone we meet is like our family. We help each other & love one another. HOME SWEET HOME!
Hi Nancy - indeed, it's a great county in many ways. You say ''farming area to North" - well I'm to North myself, close to Pleasantville... maybe not so far from you. Thanks for writing :)
Hey Chris, been watching for a while, I'm form Pittsburgh. My band "Mahajibee Blues" played a fall festival about 2 or 3 years back, we were right down on the river you shown, there were some hit n' miss engines on display. It was great to watch them in action! Bedford is a beautiful town, glad I got to visit.
Hi Tim, Thanks for watching. Early October will have been your visit during Fall Foliage and some years there have been displays of the old hit'n'miss engines. I'm lucky to have such a local town.
Chips are chips...so it counts! Bedford springs is indeed impressive...reminds me of a place here called "White Sulphur Springs"..now a 'ghost town", but in it's day had it's share of splendor, with U.S. president's visiting there..M1 Garand..the rifle that won the war! It's a beautiful town, Chris. Enjoyed the "ride-a-long" Thanks!
Hey Dale, There is quite a bit of history in this small town and the Springs is just amazing. Ahh yes, the Garand M! - a classic. Thx for having a look - I hope later sometime to video Bedford Village and maybe too get some video of Johnstown.
Looks like a very nice place to live. Would love to drive on roads like that, nice and wide with very little traffic and being able to park like you did virtually anywhere. Didn't see no litter or graffiti anywhere, that's amazing in this day and age. Thank you for showing enjoyed the tour very much.
Hi, Pretty nice town and area yes indeed. And traffic for most part is very tolerable -- bit heavier at commuter times of course... but nothing compared to major urban areas, thankfully. :) Very little litter or graffiti - but like most places, always the few punks that will make mess or worse! Thanks for having a look.
Chris, been watching a lot of your shop videos, and enjoy the information and projects. Had no idea where you were located until you noted in one of your videos that you were 24 miles SE of Johnstown. Wanted to let you know that I am located in Johnstown. I have a shop in my garage, and really am addicted to machining. I started out welding, and just recently got into all of the other aspects. I welded for about 40 plus years. Keep up the great work. Your time efforts are appreciated!
Hi Joe, Thanks for watching -- so - you are in Johnstown eh. I'll have to try and swing by one of these days as you are so near. Maybe let me know where you are. My son lives in Richland. Drop me an email sometime - alumbankweb - at - comcast.net
Many thanks for the tour, there were far fewer people around than I expected, I thought it would be one long traffic jam, nice to see you have open roads there. Bedford County! Some nice Long Rifles made there! Chris B.
Hi Chris, Most of the time things are fairly quiet and roads pretty good for traffic - I'm glad I don't have to deal with things like the big beltways! :)
thank you very much for sharing these impressions. btw-- your shop reminds me of the one that my uncle owned for decades. he told me " who is keeping order is too lazy to search for things and also not able to discover things that you were never aware about if you kept order " all the best for you and your family. rgds michael, berlin, germany
Hi Michael, Thanks for watching. I wish my shop chaos was just a bit better organized but now and again I make a discovery of something I thought long gone! :) All best back, to you and yours.
Thanks Jeffry - indeed yes, I am lucky. Your comment got thru just fine but it's frustrating that the occasional ones get caught up or don't even appear.
I grew up in Blair county Pa. My fiance now works in Bedford and we're looking for a home there. We went on several field trips to Bedford when we were elementary school 😊💗
They still have the old water spigot at The Springs where people fill up their jugs with the mineral water? My grandma used to try and make me drink it. It was too metallic tasting for me.
Nice video! I have been to Bedford a couple times years ago on work related subjects. The business I work for manufactures sand and soil mixes for golf and sports industry and we actually shipped some bunker sand to Bedford Springs resort recently for the golf course from near Deep Creek lake in Garrett Co. Md.
south central pa the best climate and vistas in the world a fair bit of history to boot no place id rather live .my brother was watching and said to pass along his liking as well great vid he says i say so to ! thanks :)
Hi Monte, I agree regarding the general area - not immune from serious weather but overall fairly kind and I do always enjoy the scenery. Thanks you and your brother for watching - glad he enjoyed also.
I saw your video, very nice description of our town, Bedford. I was born and raised here, loved growing up here. Please don't take offense, as your driving skills are quite in a fast speedy manner. As, when going down the fort on 10:15, didn't you see that person?! Overall, thanks for sharing this.
Hello sir I do enjoy your videos so keep it up don't get discourage so you do have followers and nice to see other ways todo work and different type of jobs
Hi Steve, Been here 17 years now - if you go to my web site, which is just an index of my videos - the homepage explains a bit. - www.oldmansshop.com It was all down to marrying a precious American lady! I love the work you have done BTW - you pay great attention to detail. :)
fantastic town I suppose as an ex Brit you appreciate the history of the town, were you driving something powerfully or poorly ? wish I had moved to the US some years ago when I had the chance.keep em coming
Hi Steve, thanks, I certainly appreciate a town's history - not a city fan but small towns are usually very interesting. The truck is an old Chevy Silverado with a rather ''rough'' exhaust - still runs quite well as it guzzles gas!
Sweet video chris loved it i and my wife went to PA on vacation back in October lake harmony area went to Bushkill falls and a few other places i felt like i was home in Pennsylvania loved the whole state had to stop in Kittanning before heading back to michigan i never wanted to leave pa i plan to move there when i can find a good paying job out there btw how far is the zippo factory from where you were filming my military zippo needs some work done on it best lighters in the world have a great day chris thank you for sharing this historic town with us all .
Hi Steve, Glad you enjoyed it. The state has many facets - from my sort of area where there are quite a lot of mountains and ridges, to flatter more expansive areas out east. I do count myself fortunate to be in my area. Zippo? Danged if I remember where they are - quick search suggests they are in Bradford PA which is far north just inside state line.
Hi Ken, I may do the Village later in the year as right now it's not properly open - mainly summer season really. They have some great reenactment days there at times as you know... be good if I could manage one of those maybe.
Hi Chris, Nice PA typical town, looks clean and well-taken care... One question, do you have or use your turning flashers on your truck....??? Just asking..... lol Cheers, Pierre
Hi Pierre, Yes, pretty well taken care of generally. I have turn signals but you don't hear them usually over other noise.. they don't ''tick'' very much. :) I always use them.
Hi Bill, Right now it's around 2.59 - way more than WV for example - we have a ridiculous amount of tax on our gas. Should be down the 2.39 region or better. I remember back in about late 2000 or 2001 - for 2 weeks it was .99 cents !! Still, better than 4 bucks or so not many years ago.
@@ChrisB257 I'm sorry I've been there a million times it seems I've just never heard anybody call it Bedford town.. sounded strange...no big deal., enjoyed the video.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for dropping by. Must make some chips again soon. :)
super neat , the gulf station was featured in a documentary shown here in Pittsburgh , I would like to see more !
Hi Jeffrey,
Thx for taking a look. That gas station is the oldest I have seen I think, unless you travel some of the old roads out west.
Thanks for the tour.

Thx Kevin.
Chris the wife would like to know what was the price of gas during your tour she really liked the video

Right now it's around 2.59 - way more than WV for example - we have a ridiculous amount of tax on our gas. Should be down the 2.39 region or better. I remember back in about late 2000 or 2001 - for 2 weeks it was .99 cents !! Still, better than 4 bucks or so not many years ago.
Guess I should be happy with our $2.16 a gallon
You betcha!!
that is my dad's work
Interesting to find someone from there! Not sure what you ID'd as Dad's work.
I am over in Alum Bank off 56.
It's Bedford not Bedford town
?? - Bedford is the county town of Bedford County, although locally of course just referred to as Bedford. Semantics? :)

Yup very fruity Chris hahaha; -)
Hi Kevin,
Yup - bit 'fruity' for sure :) "Ageing vehicle syndrome"
My hometown lovely 🤞🤓🤔
Hi Gary - I look forward to the town in summer particularly when all the trees come out. :)
