    I use an ultrasonic to clean my LP record collection, works quite well. The LPs sound much better after removing all the crud that had accumulated over the years in the groves. Just have to get one large enough to submerge half the record at a time, and I built a rotating mechanism that allows the entire record to be cleaned in 5-10 minute.

      Hi - that sounds more than useful - certainly needing a big enough tank.

    Just bought a 10 liter off ebay. I love it I can clean so many things now. I just finished cleaning my 3 jaw chuck off the lathe and it came out immaculate. These things are wonderful, you'll enjoy yours for a long time.

      Hi George - 10 Liter eh - now that sounds super useful! Still, even the small has some varied uses. :)

    Excellent review Chris. This one has a good volume. We used ultrasonic cleaners in the aerospace industry to clean components prior to assembly. They are really brilliant machines. Great that this one has a heater as well. Regards Steve

      Thanks Steve - though rather small this does work out adequate for small stuff. Integral heater rather slow so pre-heat does speed things up a bit. Best.

    That was a very impressive demonstration, I really never thought about cleaning rusty items, but this has proven just how good it is at doing that, I always boil a kettle of water and pour that straight in on a good slug of detergent liquid, it really does a good job on electric shaver heads, and black power cartridge cases, although the wet tumbler takes care of those now. the speed spanners are normally too bulky to get at most fixings I need to get loose, but they can be handy in the tool box. Chris B.

      Hey Chris - thanks. Must try sometime on some really grungy cases that are too bad for the tumbler. :)

    A few years ago stuff like that ultrasonic cleaner weren't really all that common among home shops, but they are cropping up more and more. After seeing what it'll do with smaller parts I can see why. Thanks for doing a good demo on it, never thought about ultrasonically cleaning a honing stone. I have a couple old clogged ones, would be nice to de-grunge them back to service.

      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hi Everett, thanks - indeed, now these things are more available, even a small one, there are numerous potential uses. My stones need a bit more time as they were so badly clogged - large one in particular.

      I find kerosene or WD-40 a good start to get the grime from stones, so far it's been my favorite method.... Wonder if TSP would be a good alternative to dish soap to finish them up.?

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      I must try the WD and/or kero - trouble is I hate the stink of kero! Someone did suggest the stuff from one of those dish washer machines - the sort of capsule pod thingy - that might cut though quite well. So - a few things to try yet :)

      Don'T know about the dishwasher caps, a dishwasher works by blasting small particules ti the dishes, this is why you never use it for dishes with painted or gold patterns or trimmings or it disapear after a few cycles. Or maybe get the stones directly into the dishwasher instead of the sonic bath, may I suggest you wait for the Boss Lady to be out of the premises for the time of the operation... ;)

    Neat little contraption. Years ago, I had a jewelry sonic cleaner, of course I don’t know what happened to it now. I may get one of these. Good video Chris

    One good thing about wrenches that abuse the nut is that the BIG SQUEEZE tends to let the penetrating oil get to where it needs to be. Work your way around the nut to penetrate each side.

      Hi Toby,
      Sometimes situations need a lot of grab and brute strength. This tool does it quite well.

  • @Daledavispratt

    That wrench is built very similar to what I know as a "basin wrench", especially with the serrations on the jaws...a tool like that can get you out of a jam, for sure. I have used 409 cleaner 50-50 with warm water and it does a wonderful job in ultrasonic cleaners..we used them when I worked in pawn shops to get jewelry ready to display...it did a great job getting things like hair spray and other residue off of stones and out of little detailed areas like setting prongs that you couldn't get to otherwise.

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hey Dale - ahh yes, 409, another option - I use that for general cleaning and it does well. Quite a few other cleaner mixes yet to experiment with.
      Agreed, the wrench is a bit like a basin wrench in principle - I still have mine from years ago when I got involved with plumbing. :)

    I've often considered an ultra sonic cleaner. That's a pretty impressive one for the money. Judging by the crud left in the pan it's effective. Thanks for the reviews. Tc. Mike

    I had a wrench similar to that when I was a kid but it was single-ended and very cheaply made. My mother got it from Spencers Gifts mail order and I taped it to my bicycle for when it broke down :-) I have a small ultrasonic cleaner I use but the brand name is worn off from use and age. It also works great to clean my eyeglasses.

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Terry - eyeglasses - that sounds useful. I reckon that wrench plus a Leatherman could sort out quite a few problems when on the road. :)

    Great review Chris. I have a U/S cleaner and it works good. Try flipping your parts over for your second run, I find it helps clean both sides better. Also where the transducer is located underneath is the hotspot for cleaning action, it diminishes toward the outside although in a smaller tank like your and mine it isn't major. Take it Easy Chris -Jim

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hi Jim, thanks - must remember to flip parts and yes, transducer is over on left side and pretty logical to treat that as hot spot. On the small tank though it seems the vibrations do carry across quite well. ATB. :)

    I like those "Do-It-All" wrenches, maybe not sofisticated, but, in an emergency tool box it cold be a life saver in a small footprint...
    Tha Sonic cleaner did a cool job at cleaning the screws... Surprised me, even with using simple dish soap... ;)

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hi Pierre - yes, the wrench sure could be handy to have if no big assortment of wrenches - it was comfortable to use. The screws definitely came out well - I think the dash of "Crud Kutter'' added made quite a difference. ATB.

    Hi Chris. Yep, you'll like the ultrasonic cleaner. I suggest you try Extreme Simple green as a de-greaser, if you can find it. It is expensive but does a marvelous job. I use it in my Eumax 6L Ultrasonic. You can't leave aluminum in it for too long, maybe 30 minutes tops or you'll have black aluminum. That specialty wrench looks like it will work for a lot of different areas. ATB

      Hi Jim - I have yet to experiment quite a bit with cleaning solutions and will remember your suggestion for the Extreme Simple Green. Your 6L is for sure a better size. Later ...

    Ah Chris, you beat me to it. I have an ultrasonic cleaner review in the can. Mine is a little bigger than the one you reviewed and I do some mods to mine. I use it primarily for cleaning carburetors and I have found that Branson makes a concentrate that works great on aluminum. Also try some simple green and water for GP cleaning.

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hey Joe - had thought of trying Simple Green solution - and I reckon a small carb could fit in this one. I guess a 5 Liter tank would be a better size.

    Good idea to make sure there are replacement parts available for the ultrasonic cleaner, since I hear they fail regularly. I borrowed one once and it did fail. Ouch! Work well, though! About the same price as the HF ULTRASONIC. Bigger is usually proportionately more expensive.

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Yes, have heard they can fail - maybe the transducer is not tough enough - maybe a good reason not to run for too long at one session.. Can but imagine price on really large ones!

    That gets down in all the crevices and other hard to reach places. I have an ultrasonic cleaner. I use it for cleaning pistols. Not all the time just when the trigger group gets all covered with carbon. No need to disassemble tiny trigger parts just drop it in and let it clean then rinse with clean water and then follow up with oil. I do not know if this is a good idea or not.

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hi Harold - probably a very efficient method to deal with a trigger group - and I'd reckon if after it was totally dried off (maybe WD40) and followed by good gun oil etc, all would be well. May well try that myself sometime. :)

    Weak transducers are likely behind the half hour limit on run-time. ( less time recommended)

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Seems maybe the transducer is the potential weak link - but certainly worth keeping sessions to a limited time and then a rest.

    Chris,
    Those 'power-ball' tablets for the dishwasher do quite well in these little ultrasonic cleaners.
    It is a rather heavy-duty detergent, not the sort of thing you'd stir with your fingers...
    Toodles

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  6 лет назад

      Hi Paddy,
      Now there's a thought! Those things will shift an amazing amount of crud. Perhaps break open a tablet and use just a part of the stuff for a job. Must try that. :)

    • @gh778jk
      @gh778jk 6 лет назад

      Chris,
      Yeah, I have been using that stuff for ages in the ultrasonic cleaner...works a treat !
      just be careful with soft aluminium alloys...some brands (of 'power ball or similar) have a slight pitting effect on that..so try out first.
      But it works great on steel, silver ....iron, steel etc...

    Ho ricevuto da un amico in regalo il seguente pulitore ultrasonico GT SONIC VGT-1620QTD però non funzionante, mi ha detto che circa un anno fa quando lo ha acquistato, lo ha inserito nella presa di corrente per pochi secondi poi si sono spenti tutti display e si e messo ad emettere una forte nota acustica continua di circa 1000 Hz e non verso verso di fatto, secondo la tua esperienza si può fare qualche cosa o non è più utilizzabile?

    • @ChrisB257
      @ChrisB257  4 года назад

      Triste a dirsi, temo che l'unità potrebbe aver fallito completamente. Potrebbe essere l'alimentatore o il circuito che genera la frequenza ultrasonica. Un'ispezione interna può trovare l'errore ma probabilmente non è d'aiuto. Invia indietro se possibile.
