See you in the next episode!
I was sticking on rails when I was learning to grind too. Here is the progression that I used to learn how to soul grind. Hope it helps other skaters too.
1. Stand next to the ledge that you are trying to grind on. Using your soul plate on one foot, jump onto the ledge and balance on it. Let the other foot just hang in the air. This is called a makio stall, and is a great way to learn how to grind. Try and hold this stall for 5 seconds or more to learn the balance point.
2. Once you can hold the makio stall, it’s time to start rolling. Get a little bit of speed, and roll next to the ledge. Put the soul plate of your one foot on the ledge, and slide across it. Leave your other foot rolling on the ground. This will help you get used to the height and feel of the ledge.
3. Next, you can try the makio grind. When you’re sliding the soul plate of your skate across the ledge, start to pick up your other foot. At first, you will only be able to get your foot up for a second before having to put it back down. As you practice more, you can skate at the ledge faster so you can slide a further distance. This is the makio grind!
4. Once you can slide on the ledge doing the makio grind, then move onto the soul stall. Stand next to the ledge, jump onto it, and practice locking both of your feet onto the ledge in the soul stall position.
5. Once you feel comfortable with the soul stall, you can start to practice the soul grind. Do the makio grind like in step 3, and slide for just a little bit. Once you start sliding, lift up your outside foot, and bring the center of your frame onto the ledge to do the soul grind.
6. Step number 5 shows you how to do the soul stall in two movements (makio then outside foot onto the ledge). You can practice doing a better soul stall by jumping and putting both of your feet onto the ledge at the same time. You can also practice getting more speed to grind further.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your next skate session!
This comment is so damn helpful!!! Great explanations.
You may need to try it one footed first like a makio...one footed soul grind...
That's how I started. So, instead of trying to jump in 2 footed, roll along side and put the soulplate of one foot onto the ledge (makio) with the other foot rolling along the ground. Let it slide and gradually take the other foot off the ground for longer and longer times to get a feel for the slide and then try using 2 feet. I still do some grinds one foot at a time.
Also, this sounds patronising but we all do it. You need to jump up and land on the ledge/rail from above as opposed to from the side. We all make this mistake.
Anyway, keep it up. You can skate far better than I can in every other way.
Idk i find easier the soulgrind compared to makio
I think this is the best advice! Learn the Makio first so you know where your weight needs to be. The front foot should have no weight on it :-)
Yep Makio first for foundation.
yep, one more skater to say try a makio first. Matthew said it correctly.
key here is to learn where to put your center of gravity above the rail,
Practising stalls on curbs or something is also good for learning grinding
You should watch some Acosta Blades Tutorials.
Agreed!
As Matthew Heaton said: start with makio. As for the halfpipe: I would start with smaller halfpipes until you're more confident. It will allow you to learn the basics without too many hospital visits. And. Put. Your. Helmet. On. Right. Side. In. Front! Or visit a hairdresser :-p
Don’t stop aggressive skating, you should carry this on and keep putting out videos about your progression.
Why is nobody in the skate park?
we usually film early in the morning so it's not crowded, and not a chaos with the sound too! :)
@@TiagoInlineSkater curious what type of knee pads do you wear if low profile sleeve?
I usually use low profile knee pads ( G Form pads ) but I forgot to bring them that day !
@@TiagoInlineSkater Gform is pretty good but I wouldn't mind trying the Ennui sleeve knee pads, but they are out of stock & no telling when they are available again.
This one really made me laugh. Great content and editing, Tiago! I'm pretty much the same level on aggressive skates 😂😂
Aggressive is very impressive to me as a kinda mix breed inline skater that has more Urban then Speed then hockey & slalom background it has always been so impressive to see them doing crazy tricks on these rails & stuff!! but anyways very cool vid @Tiago super brave of you to step in to aggressive!
10:32 This grind called a frontside, seems to be more of a "Safety" Trick for you than the left footed soul grind you are attempting. Looking solid bro keep practicing the frontside! awesome content
Wax! Skatboarders will hate you, but i think you need wax ...
thats why i go to my skatepark early so I can wax away and not have to ask the boarders.
@@alleystargrowley2784 snap. It's gotta be done!
@Tamara Fletcher Generally at a skatepark bladers like to wax everything we grind like the coping and rails and grindboxes. It's so nice to slide and not stick!
Most skateboarders I've ever met don't like wax on things or if they do then only a tiny bit. 🤷♂️ It's cool if you use it or don't, but it would appear the majority of skateboarders don't like people waxing things at the park.
I do inlining and BMX with BMX waxed coping is my worse nightmare but in lines I understand it it’s a love hate relationship 😂😂
Don't jump *up* to the ledge. Instead, aim to stomp your rear foot (the Soul foot) *down* on to the ledge.
Oh my god my friends and I are going to a skatepark for my friends birthday. I've only been to a skatepark ONCE in my life and idk of my friends have been either 😬. Needless to say I'm kinda nervous 😅. However watching you go on the quarter pipe looks really fun!
Don't stress it man, if you do something stupid just remember that you are always the one to judge yourself the hardest, if someone laughs at you, join in it probably looked really silly. But be safe, if you get hurt don't hide it, you need to let someone else know that you are hurt. It's not cool to get hurt and act like its no big deal. If you seem like you are just getting worse and falling more and more, you are getting tired and maybe it's time to call it quits for the day. Also bring knee pads and a helmet. Stay safe and have fun! ;)
Omg
I love your hair 😂💓
Seing such an expansive skate getting gutted to fit an intuition in it feels realy weird, That is such a pricy set up! You have to keep pushing, aggressive takes a while to get right. If you dont practice often you wont see your skills evolve much. I used to practice stalling tricks on curbs for hours when I started, not even rolling in. Keep trying, youll get it. Plus your skating skill s are really good so that already a win! And most importantly have fun doing it, wear protection and remember, everyone fails and falls!
ps: at some point the skates wont make all the difference. Find one where your feet feel good enough and stick to them for a while. Changing skates can completly change the feeling you will have riding (probably urban skates are the same?). So sometime it might feel like relearning, especially jumping from hardboot to soft boot to hybrid to carbon. They all have different feels when riding. Choose one you like and ride it till its destroyed.
On the idea of screwdriver in pocket; also best to not skate with keys or other sharp instruments in pockets. Falling on these items can be terrible and injurious. (Same as the idea of not chewing gum while skating, or sticking out tongue)
that or, for keys, at least keep them flat in your wallet, that way you wont even feel them + extra padding when you fall.
I always have a backpack for everything I want to bring with me. Also it is a really good idea to have a screwdriver, alenwrench, duck tape, zip ties and a multitool with pliers. They have saved me in many situations.
Lookin’ good Tiago!👊 Got to hand it to those aggressive dudes, they make it look easy! I find it such a workout. When the better weather arrives I’ll defo be at the skate park more often. I love that your park has a roof, that makes a lot of sense, or so you would think. We get a ton of rain but have no roofs... go figure.🤔
I used to skate since i was 12 but i did not keep it up, would quit for a long time then try again only a little, and only got to the level you are at here. I had too much fear about falling and my autism and mental health got in the way of getting any good at it, I also was tired of falling so much that I just quit. I also had gotten Razors genesys, picked up skating again when I was 23-25 but the skates are not very comfortable and felt unnatural compared to USD or shoe like skates (and they were very stiff and made noise moving in them) and so I got frustrated with my fear of falling and lack of progression so I quit. But I tried skiing only recently (im 31 now) and found i could learn it easier since i used to aggressive skate I think skiing also helps with learning balance and building leg strength, I would like to try skating again. Keep aggressive skating alive!!! Thanks
always bend your knees and get ON TOP of the ledge or rail...don't look at your feet, look towards the direction you are grinding in...best advice someone gave me...also I just noticed, you're coming at the ledge to head on...skate along side it and hit it
Doing this is not easy. Everyone thinks it is. Think this. If you ride a bike you fall on it but you can run in your shoes. Skateboard same. Scooters same. If you bail on blades you fall. EVERY TIME. Not easy at all. I bet my snowboard crew feels me. Its a part of you. Glad you youth are keeping it alive. Keep on going. It takes a long time to get good.
I'm glad you finally had a chance to ride with Intuition Liners :) May I ask if you if you did a "full" gutting? Was the integrated insole dug out as well to reveal the carbon underneath?
Those are basically the most expensive aggressive skates I’ve ever seen
then u should see the pro USD, the way most of us run them out. that is by far the most expensive skate out there, but also the best in my opinion.
Oh yeah the liner alone costs more than my Chris Farmer USD Sways!
And he sucks so bad my eyes are bleeding
BTW, why did you leave the tags on the skate? you plan to return it? :D
I also felt like i was going to have a heart attack on inline skates... what a rush🤣🤣🤣
Love your vids bro. I skated in the 90s and just getting back into it. So stoked to see your enthusiasm. Cheers!
It's kind of comforting to hear that you also don't always find the comfortable sizes / skates, because you're so good and you managed to find the right ones for you. That means all the skates I returned to the online shop aren't a waste, it's just an attempt to find the best comfort, so I can become half as good as you and have the best time skating!
first 4 secs literally me lmfao
Try to grind with only your soul-foot first, because it goes all on that one. Then add the other one and you got a soul grind. Think of the grinds like a fusion of several micro-movements that verges on one final thing.
Rodney Mullen talks about this in a TedxTalk and it was HUGE for me.
Before that, i was "oh no man, my body is not athletic enough for doing this." Then i started to think about it thru physics and, in one day, i learn every grinds and how to switch and do a 360 from soul.
Best wishes for you and keep up the good work.
I used to aggressive skate when I was 13-17 years of age. I had the K2 Backyard which I wore out. I also still have the Oxygen Argon skates. I'm in my 30's now and tried to grind recently, and it was pitiful. I'm afraid to fall now. I still skate, but no more tricks for me. haha. Kudos for trying.
Give yourself time and you will get there:). Everything is about the basics, good weight distribution and air time. Maybe it would be a great idea to do a collaboration with aggressive skater that can help you :) Keep pushing:)
Hello there. I'M AN AGGRESSIVE SKATER... HERE: 6:00
All you need to so is practice standing and jumping onto the object you want to grind a few times. Locking on before rolling up to it at speed.
Literally just stand as you are at 6:00 parallel to the ledge and in ONE JUMP, LAND BOTH YOUR SOUL FOOT AND FRONT FRAME FOOT ( SOUL GRIND ) TO GET FAMILIAR LANDING BOTH FEET SAME TIME, JUMPING DIRECTLY IN TOP OF THE LEDGE - NOT AT AN ANGLE. Practice jumping, on and off the ledge, in place, no roll up.
Then get speed and roll up to grind that puppy. You will carry speed to if you land on top, centered. PLUS WAX IF NEEDED. That box rail was like sandpaper XD.
I'm crying watching you cut those sebas. But the intuition liners are expensive and beautiful.
Now that you have a Carbon Seba SX, PLEASE get a Wizard Frame and test it for us.
I'm so excited to see you jumping back into aggressive inlines again.. Can't wait to see you progress
FANTASTIC!!! great video!!!
Love the content bro keep on rolling!
Great seeing your progress, dude!
Like you, I had an issue finding skates that fit, and that had the support that my wrecked ankles need. Sounds like the SX might be a good skate for me as-is, without gutting it. I'm also a US9.5, which has no direct EU size equivalent, skates are either too big or too small, only a handful of skate makers make US half-sizes, and not everyone carries them anyway...
I ended up picking up a pair of USD Aeons, but had to replace the liner with some Reign V3-Vcuts. Learning aggressive from scratch on a flat setup is difficult, though... but still fun.
I agree with many of the comments. One observation I made is that it seems you are stabbing your feet onto the ledge with your soul grind. Try to think of it as a smooth movement where you use finesse to move your feet onto the ledge.
As another person said, Acosta blades is great. As well, check out aggressive mall. I love their tutorials.
Cheers from the Philippines!
I think the key to grinding well is to come in fast as for you to be able to grind a much longer distance, and I think you should squat down or lower your knees a bit more.
Leaning forward could help bring your center of gravity in line with the grind rail.
I never thought aggressive skating was so difficult and I do consider you and expert urban skater.
When I was learning this grind, I jumped up to land a makio while not moving and got good at being able to jump up, lock in, and stay. Then I moved on to working on getting my other foot up and locked in.
After you have that down, doing it while moving becomes much easier
Your helmt is so off, i hope you dont fall doing agressive skates with that helmt
It's the hair lol
I have the same thoughts, that helmet will not help him... 🤔
8:29 "ye acting BŒUF and stuff"
You usually just wanna wax the curb or rail when it sticks. If you put wax on it while it's already slippery it will be really hard at the beginning because you will be slipping alot.
It's really fun to see your trial and error in learning new tricks!
Funny that both, you and bill Stoppard are starting with aggressive skating at the same time.
Tiago tried months ago and couldn't get into with it, like he said with the boots bring too big, too small
for soul grind you hav to be parallel with your box or P rail or ledge and focus on your makio foot { soul plate must be flat while your landing}
hehehe you made it look crazy hard to do. when its really not that hard, balance and just landing it is all it really takes mate, practice on ur stance before u try. go to a ledge and just jump up and land those tricks before trying them. then in a few minutes u will land them i promiss. Ps if u ever come to copenhagen, then contact me and we can go skate the parks and spots around town. ill show you it all and maby teach u a thing or two ;) and keep up the awesome vids mate
THIS video started after I threw my phone 15 feet from falling off my skates and it was nothing but laughter,
coincidence?
I THINK NOT!!!
You are doing great man! Come to Norway one day and I will teach you alot of tips and tricks!
Tiago inline skater, I would like you to purchase a pair of mission inhaler skates and do a review on them please. YOUR THE BEST!!!😁
He's not a hockey player, he has freestyle and aggressive skates
Man, please tell me, please, what are those wristguards?
I'm a musician but really into skating, so I trying to find the best protection set out there.
Yeah! Your are getting it! But, I cannot stop to watch all those trash on the floor :(
Dude it takes years! & usually you start when your young and your bones are still bendy.
It’s not the skates, it’s the skater. Ten years ago, Connor O’Brien made a small profile skating with a pair of destroyed Remz OS3 previously destroyed by Nick Wood
Hello Tiago !
I’m 13 years old and I’m doing slides. I’m currently using Seba skates but my wheels are already eating the plastic inside the wheels after like less then 3 months. Please help/
If you are going to be doing slides, you are going to need to buy new wheels more often. If you want to save your wheels for longer then I would suggest not doing long slides. But don't worry it is perfectly normal for your wheels to wear out within a couple of months. Hope this helps! ;)
Awesome job gutting the liner, it looks great!
Salut Tiago, je voulais savoir si c'est autorisé finalement de faire du Roller à Courbevoie pendant le confinement ?
you could have just replaced the tongue without gutting it , get a tongue from an old beat up skate or liner, stitch some fabric onto the bottom part and lace them in.
Make more vids at this park! I love seeing all the graffiti pieces
I am normally right foot dominant when I do grinds however I do the soul grind with my left foot in the soul position the same way that you are attempting in this video perhaps should try doing the soul grind in the other direction and it might be easier for you
Maybe you should try staling a grind first and try to stay as long as possible in that position then try adding some speed that's how i used to learn new grinds
So just to be clear, there's nothing wrong with cruising in aggressive skates right?
Land flat on it bring your upper body over the ledge parallel to the grind surface but just stall on it for a couple of times without rolling or falling lol
Il a l'air super cool le skatepark !
first jump on the box from a stationary position, for your soul grind.. till you can jump on top. and not towards the rail.
you need to jump a little higher then the object, to get on top
Oh man, if you have a hard time finding your size just imagine how is it for me. I have a pair of k2 recreational rollerblades size 40 that were originally my dad's, and I'm size 36.
When landed the makio foot ur knee of the makioside should be bend and lean over the ledge that way u wont get ejected from the ledge
No sé si ya lo lograste pero yo lo que hago para hacer un truco es primero caerlo sin movimiento y mantenerlo ahí y después ya lo vas haciendo con velocidad
Keep it up man!! I will get there
I like your actitud good job 👍🏻
He's not committing. You can't skate scared
Try first makio grind, once You figured out how to reach the rail, you will get the soul grind
Why didn't you remove the tags?
Also... Did you wax the rails?
He did use wax, you can see him applying it when he moves from the small rail to the box along the edge of the skatepark.
@@calebdostal669 I must have missed it.
Hence why I asked
Ok, I can just barely skate but I watch tons of videos including all of yours. I think you should stick with the low rail & do your run up from farther back so you have more momentum to hold the skates on the edge. Try not to pull yourself off as soon as you get on the edge. I think you need to concentrate on that. You’re a really great skater just trying something new. You will get it. 👍☮️🌞
You gotta go fast and you def need to have wax handy. Just send it! Great stuff T!
Bill Stoppard does Agressive, you do aggressive, what is going ooon?
Nice! I’m 32 and haven’t skated in over 10 years and I’m going to buy some Razors
Hey Tiago, what is the best skates for slalom/freestyle in your opinion? :D
Practice stalling and your stance a bit more till you feel like you have more control and BREATHE!!!
It was fun to watch the video 😂☮️❣️
I LOVED this video. Thank you
I tried jumping with my skates and almost died :> Thank goodness for grass. You earned a sub!
Idk if you still taking advice, but it looks like you gotta lean more into the obstacle, hence why your soul foot slips out... Get more on top! Keep it up!
It looks like the angle you're going into it might be to much of and angle but that comes with practice.
The quarter or half pipe looks a bit long too.
Then ending was good!
don't try to land your soul foot straight, try to lock it at an angle because it's coping box,and you need wax as well 😊
jump! bounce! brinca, salta!
I am so happy he put on a Helmet this time, too bad the Helmet did not agree with his Hair.
hey tiago any tips for beginners trying to get into this lifestyle i love this
Buy inline skates. Skate. ✌️
The tongue breaks in. If you keep with other aggressive skate, you can speed break in by skating cuffless.
His is this already 2 years old? Time flies
I wish I had your feet man, nearly every single aggressive skate you can buy is always left in those smaller sizes!
I feel cursed having the common size EU 46 feet.
P.S. you sound French Canadian. Love for the Bois in Canada. Batstone. I don't know how to spell it in English its Charge! Or Lets go get em! Battle cry.
I'm actually from Paris, France ^^
Hehe, the only thing wrong with this video was how badly I wanted to cute the tag off his right boot 🤣
I think the tag is still there to this day lol
@@TiagoInlineSkater nooooo😱😱😱😶🤣
That helmet doesn't look to be regulation fit :D
Why would anyone NOT skate aggressive... AGGRESSIVE SKATING is so much fun. It serves the same purpose as a speed skate - so just skate aggressive man. Tricks and AIRS are where its at.
dude trust me... you got the landings (almost).. give a little more speed, and believe it.... you will feel it instantly if it locks prober... keep practice bro.. the only way
