I loved the beginning of this game. After about 6 hours I felt like that John Travolta from pulp fiction meme. Like wtf am I even doing here

It's so fucking true. I've tried to finish this game so many times. I've always started from the beginning because i never remember how to properly play and it starts off so strong. But as soon as you start getting into the nitty gritty about territory and who you give it to and who you go after and the cutscenes starts becoming more spaced out, it loses steam and fast. One day I'll finish because the gameplay in terms of combat is pretty great. Just wished it had the pacing of Mafia 1 and 2.
@@garranto i get to the part where the cia guy starts rambling for about 20 minutes of cutscenes and never boot up the game the next day because it bored me so much
@@garrantotook me 3 years of on and off playing but I always continued from last save. My hack was listen to listen to podcasts while doing the open world parts and turn them off for cutscenes heh but overall I liked it
its so sad that the gameplay in this game was so repetitive because the radio, story, and setting was actually really good.
It never really bothered me in away because of the different way's you could kill people. I found it really fun yet more serious game then gta

I never cared about the gameplay being repetitive, I was having so much fun driving a maxed out car around, seeing the world details and with the combat gameplay that I completely forgot about the repetitive parts.
Driving the classic cars and listening to the radio was the best part of this game.

@@wasturtime I'd say they're actually really good for a non-racer. The thing is they just handle a lot more like an older car like that would. Once I got the hang of it, it felt super satisfying to whip all those road-boats like nothing
I love the combat in this game. The gunplay feels so satisfyingly squishy and the knife kills are something to behold

I just wanna know something , was this game rushed ? Was there a budget limit ? And the first mafia game was brilliant I really want to replay it on my PS3 again with the 50’s soundtrack.
Mafia games always seemed to just nail the feel of whatever era they were set in
@Darkhorse22 it went through several different development team's who all had different ideas and then it was put on hold when Rock star purchased the developer then they was rushed to finish the game. To many Cooks and not enough time in the end.
They also nailed the vibe of New Orleans the soundtrack was also amazing imo

I played it few months ago with Community Mods which improved the gunplay, reduced the grinds, cleaned up the UI and added better color grading and it's a way better experience than the base game it goes from 6/10 to 8/10 also because of reduced grind the story is more streamlined and immersive.

Thank you for this advice! I was thinking about replaying the game again, it's been a while. I didn't know there was mods for it. Now I know, I'll definitely give those mods a try, it might make me feel like playing a new game.

The first few hours just show how good this could have been. I really hope Hangar 13 get the time they deserve with Mafia 4 and aren't forced to hit a release date like with this game

@@onesaucynougat7471i mean it has its moments of fun times but there are those times you run into rare game breaking bugs and have to end up restarting. 2K dropped the ball if they would have let it come out in 2018 like it was supposed to. It possibly could’ve given red dead 2 a run for its money

My favorite thing about this game is the silent pistol. The headshots are just chef's kiss. I can literally do a whole mission using just the pistol.
I know about the silenced pistol Vito can give you, and the silenced auto pistol (uzi?) that Cassandra can give you. Are those the only two variations or are there other silenced weapons in the game?

I didn’t play this for years because of all the hate it got, finally played it late 2022 and I absolutely loved it 🤷♂️ … the world, the character, the story. Was a blast.
I dropped a couple years ago because of how bored I got of the gameplay. Maybe I should pick it back up
I played game around little after the launch of it. Beat it but wished the game was maybe several hours shorter. They were trying to hit a homerun with this game and be like a gta clone.
Hangar 13 should of thought that it wasn't a good idea to grind game repetitively. I love mafia games which is why when they remade mafia 1 helped redeem themselves.
I wish the territory you had to defend or have more motivation to attack them and do raid. If vito was main character I wouldn't of minded the grind needed more vito side missions.
Was so hyped when I read video game magazines and watched them talk about the map and missions.
If it weren't for the music a 10/10 and amazing voice acting and cutscenes I might of not bothered finishing it

This game holds a special place in my heart as this is what got me into older music.
Such a shame the game takes place in 68’ and they couldn’t get a license for some music from the doors. Especially since they were at their peak in 68’

I like Mafia 3, it's a fun game with an engaging story and a few very memorable, powerful scenes, the bar massacre etched itself into my brain. People say it's repetitive, but I enjoy the gameplay loop enough for it to not bother me. And the setting is great, they nailed the aesthetics and the general vibe.
Edit: I forgot how gruesome takedowns are in this game, jesus christ.
This game is very nostalgic for me because it was one of the only things I played during the summer of 2017 in the middle of the woods in Alaska
I love the engine noise in the muscle cars in this game it has pretty good sound design in some parts (others not so much)
One thing that I always loved about this game was the Drifter (Lincoln's cover car). It's based off a 70-71 Ford Torino which is rare enough to see depicted, but adding the GT's hidden headlights just sends it over the top!
Mafia 3 was like a movie with how well made the cutscenes were despite the game having a bit of repetitive missions at times it definitely made up for it with great characters like Vito (from Mafia 2) and John Donnavon also it head a great soundtrack

I maintain that if Mafia 3 just let you mainline the story - and not make you go through the tedium of grinding out the rackets - it'd be held in the same regard as the first two.
Oh for sure. Everything is top notch except the gameplay. Even the gunplay and driving I'd say feels pretty amazing. Just the racket system and the progression were pretty terrible.

@@latinobunny9882 It's not supposed to be like the original Mafia, that game was set in 1930's Lost Haven, so it reflects how the world was back then. Mafia 3 is set in 1968's New Bordeaux, the world is a very different place in Mafia 3, so why would it, in any way, be like 1930's Lost Haven?
The only game that was like the first Mafia is Mafia II as that's set from 1945-1951 and picks up immediately after the end of the first game.

This is GOLD in comparison with titles released recently.
The first time I played this game I was in my dorm room when Sal torched them at the beginning, Paint it Black was playing in my ears, getting me in the feels, and my roommate looks at me, and screams I MADE A STARSHIP IN MINECRAFT!!!! worst mood kill ever.
Sounds weird and oddly specific but I love how they did the teeth, they just get glanced at in games. It doesn't cross your mind but once you see it you can't unsee it
I had this game started and 2 hour into the gameplay on my shelf for over 2 years now. Seeing this video a few weeks ago made me give it a 2nd chance and I don't regret it!
The story, the music, the vibe, the city and world design are all great. The gameplay is repetitive but not as annoying as I'd expect, the stealth mechanics make it more fun. Especially since gunfights are a bit bad. Also driving is a bit janky, but overall that's a good experience.
I'm around halfway in and I'll definitely finish the story this time around.

The presentation of this game was quite original and unique. The whole flashback documentary style. The soundtrack was top notch. The characters were really interesting. The gameplay was a bit subpar compared to those elements but I still had a great time playing the game.

Mafia 3 is what introduced me to the Mafia games in particular
I loved the dialogue and characters in this game. The atmosphere was great, and the side missions were great. The ones that strayed away from the repetitive "go here, cause some ruckus, kill this guy, take the business" gameplay. The missions like Donovan's, and all the side stuff the leaders get you to do were awesome.
Lincoln’s stealth kill animations are so brutal and satisfying.
Might not be my favourite mafia but the story and the music alone really made it something

This game has sooo much replay value I’d love more dlc content !
Great sound track, solidarity animations, amazing voice acting loved the game overall despite its numerous bugs.
I really liked the story and the character of Lincoln Clay, but I recently replayed it and played all 3 DLCs for the first time and “repetitive” is, undeniably, the key feature, even more so that other open world games. It’s all about taking over territories but how you do it is exactly the same: each zone has two bad guys running two different businesses. You run around the zone killing and collecting money until the boss comes out of hiding then you go recruit or kill him. Even Ghost Recon: Wildlands felt more varied in the gameplay although people had many of the same criticisms about repetitiveness. Plus, there’s no fast travel, and that was brutal after awhile even though the music on the three radio stations is top notch.
What I love about this game is how creative the ways Lincoln kills the important guys are. They are actually very different from each other.
but the missions are all the same, just go to a place, meet a guy, fight through some enemies and kill him, and then rinse and repeat.
Love this game, grinded the hell out of it and got the platinum back on PS4. Soundtrack was 🔥 and the story was just chefs kiss 👩🍳
I didn’t really mind the gameplay formula. Sure it got kinda old but the combat and whatnot was so much fun to me I couldn’t get enough. The story was damn good too and I adore the 60’s so, just right for me.

Out of all of the things you could say about Mafia 3, the one thing that absolutely nailed for me the open world and this game is like already 5 years old and it might not be greater than Mafia 1 or Mafia 2 because of the well written stories and the authentic setting, realism and the graphics, but this game has a lot of classic cars and excellent radio and side content as Mafia 2 had. And also the Classico suit makes this game 10% better also with the trench drum and revolvers and the setting in this game is really well with the 60’s vibes

I have never really considered Mafia games true open-world games.
They're stories that take place in an open-world settings, so I never judge the games based on how good they are as open-world games. I remember playing Mafia 2 without ever touching any of the open-world stuff and it's still a brilliant experience.
Underrated game they should of added 60 FPS to the definitive edition tho would make all the difference
Got this game back in 2017, immediately loved it. I remember me and my gf at the time would spend hours taking turns playing and getting the rackets. Also the music changed our taste at that time too ! Went mediocre pop to classic 60s radio !! What a game, of course if the gameplay was up to scratch it would have been a classic
A lot of people shit on this game for being repetitive and while it definitely is I really enjoyed this game the story is amazing the choices feel really fleshed out and the gameplay is really enjoyable so I don't mind doing the same things a bunch of times because what they have works and I'm just down to play it
I gotta admit - unpopular opinion, I know, but Mafia 3 was the best one. The Mafia 1 remake's open world is a little too stuck into itself. Big and wide open, yes, but with little chance of going off script to explore it, and Mafia 2, well, that one was just a little too small. 3 had the perfect size, perfect amount of freedom to roam, a little repetitive and sparse with side activities, but it made the most of itself.
Personally, I'm just more than a little damn impatient wondering when we're going to get a trailer for Mafia 4. It's been MONTHS since the game was announced, and I am hype as can be for its Italy-in-the-1890s setting.

I remember getting this game when it was free through ps plus, the music and story were immersive, sure the gameplay was repetitive, the a.i was dumb at times and it had alot of bugs and glitches in the past but I still think it's worth playing

I got to respond to a certain 3-letter alliterative "Southern heritage" group with appropriate levels of violence. All the game needed to become a favorite. Guess I never noticed the grind because of who I was mostly grinding through.

To be specific though Lincoln is Army Special forces if basing on what Donovan said about him also since Lincoln himself said it...he's probably a Green beret at best i just don't know which SF group also they were known working in the MACV-SOG along with the CIA during the vietnam war
I have played Mafia 1 and 2 multiple times before, but I played Mafia 3 first time only last year. Knowing the previous games pretty well, I have to say Mafia 3 has the best story, dialogue, characters and protagonist, and also the best shooting mechanics.
3 is good, but the tedious gameplay drags it down. I still think the first story is the best overall imo - Mafia Remastered is my favorite overall of the series

One of the best Open World games ever. The sound design is AMAZING! The Combat is average but the gun play is superb.
The game was hionestly amazing to me. IT has such a bad reputation, but I guess thats mostly because it is called "mafia". The repetetive missions are actually quite fun, u can either go guns blazing or just be stealthy. Also I like that there are some unique ways to hurt a business, not just "shoot up this place, steal money", for example, you can blow up a crane to hurt an operation. Ill definitely replay this game one day, because it was just really really good to me. 7/10.

I mean it’s alright, like…
People said when Mafia III released that it’s just GTA V in the 1960s. Even saying that Lincoln Clay is the fusion of Franklin Clinton and The Punisher. But in my opinion the story in the Mafia games is the best highlight. The combat system is heavily reliant on a tactical playstyle on Hard Difficulty since you can die faster than a shotgun blast in Rainbow Six: Siege, but is fun for the challenge. Plus the multiple possible endings is a neat touch considering there hasn’t been a Mafia game set in a later decade yet, which allows the player to choose how they would personally end the series.
Really the downside is since I’m a car enthusiast, and I’m especially fond of cars from this decade, that almost every car in the game is a mish mash of several cars made into one. But that’s no big deal breaker. The structure of reclaiming territory is a little too much like Saints Row, but if it works, don’t fix it.
Critically, this game features a lot of racism. But if you can look past that, you got a great story with great character growth in Lincoln’s case.

I saw a theory that Lincoln may be Joe's illegitimate son he had while he was away in Mafia II. And honestly, looking at lincoln, especially with his hair in the prologue, i can totally see it. Similar physiques, facial features and hair. Plus, Father James said Lincoln's father may have been Italian
I think they should've made a character switch system with the underbosses where you would assign them to take over a racket. For example, you could assign Vito to the Guns racket in Barclay Mills and Burke to the Garbage racket. Once they've dealt with the boss, the racket is automatically theirs. Lincoln still gets the story missions, though.
I'd imagine each underboss would have their own unique skillset, like for example Burke being able to carry extra throwables at the cost of having bad accuracy or Cassandra being able to run faster at the cost of her only being able to carry one gun.
I’m gonna be honest, I know it’s not the best game even in its own series but I did enjoy this game. It did good at setting a realistic a immersive kinda world.
Obviously it’s fault is repetitiveness but I actually didn’t mind personally because the weight behind the movement, execution and gunplay felt so good. The main missions were also super satisfying, I really felt like I was dismantling the mobs entire operation and it nailed that feel. Downsides put aside I don’t think this game gets the love it deserves
I actually liked this game. Gameplay was a bit repetitive but it was a fun storyline to follow and kept me interested the entire time. I’ve played it multiple times since I got it during release. Also like the DLC games. The one where you play as the CIA guy in the jungles of Vietnam was a good one. The one where your doing race cars and I can’t remember the third one but I played them all and enjoyed them.
I loved Mafia 3. They don’t really make too many games I appreciate anymore so when I get them I really love em. I wonder what happened to console games like this, Kane and Lynch, GTA 5 and Max Payne which used to be so common but now seem to be less produced. Probably more emphasis on micro transaction games on people’s phones.
