Well heres the reasoning behind some of these being illegal, the punch dagger is illegal because its easy to conceal and trying to dissarm it is near impossible because even when the hand is put in the release position it can stay in the hand between the fingers and i guess law enforcement have a tough time with that. The cane sword is illegal bc it looks like an ordinary object but is actually a very large lethal weapon and the argument is that your not allowed to conceal a weapon and if your open carrying, the weapon has to be percieved as one and be vissible from at least 3 sides of your person. Being concealed as a cane is why its a problem in legal terms. Typically most melee weapons that are illegal, are illegal either on technicalities or bc they were demonized in the media. Kind of silly when we can get conceal carry permits for firearms but a kitchen knife can get you in trouble bc it was in your pocket. Also for some places if you are carrying a weapon you cannot say its for self defense, it needs to have a use outside of self defense and be provable, saying its for self defense will be used to imply you have it bc your looking for trouble and a reason to use it as a weapon. I know a lot of this sounds really dumb and like a lot of reaching by law enforcement but thats how it is. I wouldnt be surprised if politicians would use these laws to justify taking away more and more gun rights aswell.

@@MarianLuca-rz5kkprobably legal but you are still going to get messed with by law enforcement. there are laws against concealment and what you can use in self defense that might apply though. for instance the push knife, stiletto, and dagger are legal to own and carry in a sheath at your waist but if you were walking down the street with an open lock blade knife in your pocket that would be considered a concealed dagger. brandishing can also come into play. if you have a kitchen knife in your hand and you are angry it can be considered brandishing, etc. there are also specific weapons called out in laws that make them illegal to own at all like weighted canes, brass knuckles, nunchucks, and certain kinds of spring and gravity knives. to expand on your question though (keep in mind i’m not a lawyer) i do believe in CA that a sheathed sword in your belt would legally be considered a dagger and should be fine or at least defendable in court. you better be careful to not draw it in an angry or threatening manner though and i would expect people to flip out. lots of Karen’s here.

Okay but if you require a cane to walk and I try and rob you, how exactly are you going to fight back? You unsheathe the sword…okay now you can’t walk, I can push you over. And if you’re using the cane to walk, the time it takes you to unsheathe it is enough time for me to just grab your hand be like “the fuck you doing give me your money.” The cane sword defeats its own purpose by being a cane sword. Bladed canes aren't always banned though, just like pocket knives, some areas go by blade length. So instead of a sword, say it was a 6in knife, then it may be legal to use in certain parts of America from what I know, my dad actually has one. The stun ones are cool, but the ones I found usually don't put out that much of a charge, making it less effective as a weapon as it doesn't stun like it should. You have to look into buying one that is super effective, which is most likely expensive, when you can just go get a knife hidden in a cane for $100 or less.
When I was in my late teens I got pulled over in my beat-up old Toyota… A veteran cop and a new trainee. During the course of the stop the younger guy found a push dagger in my center console - “Do you know what these are for?!? This is designed to do one thing: KILL. This is illegal for a good reason” The vet steps in - “Why do you have a knife like this?” I told him I was a pizza delivery guy, and often delivered late nights in the worst projects in the city. Same. I had a $500 Microtech Combat Troodon that I took to New York City with me on a vacation trip because they won't let you conceal carry a firearm there (I'm from Florida). I was standing next to a cop at a crosswalk, and all he saw was the pocket clip on the outside of my jeans and stopped me and asked why I had a knife. I looked at him like it was the dumbest question anyone had ever asked me. He told me to let him see it, and that's when I pulled it out and he started acting all freaked out. He told me it was the same thing as walking around with a gun blah blah. Because I was from Florida and visiting for two days he told me I could just surrender it to him, or I would go to jail for an illegal weapon and be charged with a felony. Yup. Those kind of weird mental gymnastics is surprising, yet we see them again and again and again. It's an offensive weapon. A self defence tool is supposed to ONLY work well in defense and not be suitable for any offensive action.
@@Minecraftrok999 While I agree that the push dagger is clearly an offensive weapon designed to subtly kill somebody quickly, I don't agree on your definition of a self-defense tool. ANY tool can be used offensively or defensively. Pepper spray and mace are primarily thought of as self-defense tools, but both can be used EXTREMELY effectively to incapacitate a victim offensively as well. In fact, if you intend to kidnap somebody or simply incapacitate them long enough to forcibly move them to a different location for some other crime, they are some of the best tools out there. That being said, my main distinction between a "self-defense" tool or one designed for offense is the intent of the weapon. If it is a tool meant to cause pain without lasting damage, cause non-life threatening injury, or render unconscious, it is more self-defense. If it is designed to kill or cause life threatening injuries, it is an offensive weapon. Pretty much anything with a blade or bullet is an offensive weapon. A lot of things that fall under the category of "self-defense" by my definition can be extremely effective in offense (like a flash-bang grenade), but that is true of nearly any weapon. A traditional shield, the very definition of defense, can be one of the most deadly offensive weapons when used correctly...
@@Minecraftrok999 I think I understand what you're trying to say, but I honestly can't think of any practical distinction of what you're describing. All weapons are explicitly designed to inflict harm on something else. This is an inherently offensive trait. Other features like concealability or quick access don't make it less of an offensive weapon and would in fact make it more useful to other purely offensive applications like assassination. Even features like non-lethality in things like stun guns are used in offensive applications. I think we might be confusing something like "how a person implements the use of something" vs "the nature or design of something".
@@Sonicmixer85 This is the kinda mental gymnastics they were talking about. Knives inherently suck as defensive weapons because they lack reach. Their only defensive property is the fact they're weapons and generate an inherent threat by simply *knowing* one is in play. If you use a hidden knife then all you've done is remove the defensive nature from it.
@@MrAkaidu I guess I didn't really make my point explicit. If all weapons are offensive by their nature, then I would propose that it's not this nature that makes them defensive. It's kinda like saying if everyone is special no one is special. It then stands to reason that it's how a weapon is used that makes it a self defense weapon. So technically any weapon can be used for self defense. The entire point the op made that a punching dagger isn't a self defense weapon is based on a misnomer. I guess you can call this mental gymnastics, but it seems like a one point observation to me. It's hardly even a syllogism. As for it's features, personally I'd say a punching dagger is better for self defense than, let's say, a rocket launcher, in something like a mugging just because it's concealable and wouldn't kill me as well in close range. It's all about how it's used and in what circumstance.
i live in NH there are no knife laws you can have and carry anything you want also they just introduced a bill to legalize brass knuckles blackjacks and other various weapons
Kentucky law has long established that among the weapons that may be carried are black jacks, "brass" knuckles of any material construction, nunchucks, throwing stars, etc. Kentucky is a constitutional carry state, but not just for firearms. Our concealed carry permits are mostly used for reciprocity with other states, but is also good for buying firearms without a wait if the NICS is backed up. Show the CCDW and it's assumed you're not a prohibited person. Note that we have a Concealed Carry Deadly Weapons permit. It's not just firearms. The permit covers all manner of weapons, and when constitutional carry passed here, it incorporated the same "any deadly weapons" principle of our CCDW permit.
That is actually the law for guns in australia. To get a license you need a valid reason that does not include self defence (defence from wild animals does not count as self defence).

I've discussed black jacks with former law enforcement officers, before. They told me the main reason you'll sometimes find laws or ordinances banning people from carrying them is because of how they're "supposed" to be used. I put that in quotes because law enforcement in the U.S. aren't allowed to hit people in the head, anymore. But even the consensus among those I've asked is that it's ridiculous to ban civilians from carrying them. Because giving someone a solid (and potentially fatal) blow across the temple or base of their skull is preferable to letting them slash you to death with a broken bottle, or something.

We immediately bought a new one once we were back in the States. 😂
I bet an awful lot of places have laws against carrying tools as "tools", though. Sure, if your job requires you to use a box cutter, the law will understand why you're carrying one. If you're caught in a bar fight with one, though, the law might not be so kind.
Fun fact: "Stiletto" heels in shoes are named after Stiletto daggers, like the one shown in this video. (Because the long and thin heels look like daggers) The word "stiletto" is in Italian but it originally comes from the Latin word "stilus", the thin pointed Roman writing instrument. (Because the long and thin dagger reminded them of the writing instrument)
The stilletto as a type of dagger is also not recent by any means, it was a type of dagger in the middle ages and renaissance, known to be used for assassinations and self-defence, for the same reason of it being very easy to hide in a sleeve/ pocket

Also a big reason why the knives are illegal is because of the shape, the stab wounds caused by the shape of the blade are extremely difficult to close and can cause the person to suffer a slow painful death.
I’d far rather more people have easy access to the concealable weapon of their choice so they can defend themselves. Even prisoners find ways to hide makeshift blades on their person and use them to deadly effect _inside_ prison. None of these bans makes a shred of difference to people who want to murder or steal: they just make it far more messy when they do these things and far easier for them to find soft, unarmed targets.

There are tons of knives you can easily deploy with one hand. Anyways, most people trained in the use of blades don't recommend people that aren't to carry them. It doesn't help you if it only gives you a false sense of security in a deathly dangerous situation. There's a reason for the saying "In a knife fight the loser dies on the street and the winner dies in the ambulance." I don't wanna sound mean, but if someone really wants to hurt you and you already can't move well a blade that you aren't used to handling is not gonna help you at all. Self defense is already tough for people that are physically fit and trained.

The push dagger was actually an ancient assassins weapon. Like the original "hidden blade" it was not designed for self defense 😂
Nice! All states should learn from NH they obviously have their priorities in line!!!
God I love NH, West Virginia of the northeast.

System is corrupt. Do what you think you should just because it’s law doesn’t mean moral.
In Michigan it is illegal to carry ANY knife for defense... mine are all tools I use for work...
That is actually the law for guns in australia. To get a license you need a valid reason that does not include self defence (defence from wild animals does not count as self defence).
@@jezzdogslayerhuh. I just finished paying off a new twelve gauge and celebrated by ordering a new pistol lower from PSA.

@@jezzdogslayer I’m moving to Australia! To hell with these trigger happy rednecks and pigs

If someone gotta walk with a cane, they don’t need a sword. They need a gun.
Agreed a firearm would be a better option most likely a 22. Just because of the jumpy nature of anything more than 45. Acp
If they're in America, the best self defense is a Kinder Surprise Egg. Americans are terrified of them.

@ChrispyThings your part of the problem. You're wastful attitude and disregard toward a better system in place is exactly why your country sucks. You will probably defend the right to bare arms for self defense purposes when the reason it was put in place was so you could over throw your corrupt government if it ever got to that point but news flash America's to far gone to take its self back so guns are strictly for self defense purposes now. Every mothefucker walking has a gun because their too pussy not to. I personally love guns I do not think general public should have access to most guns outside of hunting weaponry. Fun story. My mom had a push dagger on her keys when we flew into Canada from the US. (Forgot to take it off). It somehow made it through US customs into Canada. Coming back to the US, Canada Border Control caught it and called the police on us. Everything worked out, and no harm done they just confiscated it. We immediately bought a new one once we were back in the States. 😂
Screwdrivers and test lights are great to carry for defense because they are in fact "tools"
Also certain designs of steel water bottles make great impact tools, especially when full.
I bet an awful lot of places have laws against carrying tools as "tools", though. Sure, if your job requires you to use a box cutter, the law will understand why you're carrying one. If you're caught in a bar fight with one, though, the law might not be so kind.
As an electrician, can confirm you can do a lot of damage with a hammer and screwdriver alone.

Fun fact: "Stiletto" heels in shoes are named after Stiletto daggers, like the one shown in this video. (Because the long and thin heels look like daggers)
The word "stiletto" is in Italian but it originally comes from the Latin word "stilus", the thin pointed Roman writing instrument.

The old man's name was Mr Rebollar and he was fuckin cool. I'll never forget that moment
No melee weapon should be banned. Honestly if you kill a criminal with a sword, dagger, etc... you deserve praise cause those mofos are almost always carrying a firearm
Great. So you've never come up with the idea of banning guns.
@@AngryCoward firearms shouldn't be banned either. It makes 0 sense to ban melee weapons and firearms. Weapon bans are what tyrants implement
@@edjr8892 What do you think would happen if the government bannes firearms? Did that really happen to UK or Japan? Gun restriction made people unhappier? Ridiculous. That makes 0.000 sense.
@@AngryCoward the answer is simple, banning firearms will only allow for more violence. Criminals don't care for the law as it is, so who is actually affected by bans? Law abiding citizens. Therefore, crime rises. Criminals will be emboldened. So yes, gun control makes 0 sense unless you are a tyrant
@@edjr8892 oh you ignored my second question on purpose. I ask you again, did that really happen to UK or Japan? Certainly not. Murder rate is significantly lower in Japan than in US. Because even criminals can hardly reach any firearms. Doesn't that still make sense to you, huh?
I'm a double amputee. I carry a pistol everyday bc I understand how vulnerable I am to attack. I also believe disabled people should be able to defend themselves in any way they see fit. We can't fight by the same rules able bodied people do, for the most part

The reason why those tend to be banned is because they are very concealable. Outside the Dirk which is over the 12 or so inch amount.
Yup, people forget this and then surprise pikachu face when they get caught with one.
Also a big reason why the knives are illegal is because of the shape, the stab wounds caused by the shape of the blade are extremely difficult to close and can cause the person to suffer a slow painful death.
I should be able to conceal my weapon used in self defense. Not gonna have it in the open like a knight or cowboy and be the robbers first target. :v

How mobile are you once your cane is useless? Great way to hand your attacker a deadly weapon.
@@Jumper1155 perhaps I should carry a flower pot? As with any attack, having a weapon just increases your chances. In a country where such attacks end with the slaughter of the victim, the cane would give me a chance, no matter how slim.
@@jimmcdougall9973 you might as well carry a regular knife that you can use with your free hand. You'd still have a usable cane and a blade in the other. There are tons of knives you can easily deploy with one hand. Anyways, most people trained in the use of blades don't recommend people that aren't to carry them. It doesn't help you if it only gives you a false sense of security in a deathly dangerous situation. There's a reason for the saying "In a knife fight the loser dies on the street and the winner dies in the ambulance."
I don't wanna sound mean, but if someone really wants to hurt you and you already can't move well a blade that you aren't used to handling is not gonna help you at all. Self defense is already tough for people that are physically fit and trained.
If you really want to improve your chances I'd recommend getting a mace spray, preferably the foam kind over the spray kind. It has some range and might buy you some time. You can always carry a knife if you really wanna be sure, but if you aren't ready and trained to kill someone in a really damn personal way that thing will do you no good.
Simple to make blackjack... 8 to 10 inch piece of garden hose. Epoxy a plug at one end. Back fill the hose with about 2 inches of lead shot. Epoxy down the length of the hose, from the open end, to cover the shot. Now you have 6 inches worth of a flexible handle with a dense thumper at the other end. ... at least that's the rumor 😂
