I assumed this was just going to be a curtain wall install in a residential building, but then they mentioned it was Pella brand and they talked about a nail flange, so this is truly a massive residential window. I wonder how this compares with commercial glazing in terms of cost and quality of envelope.
I finished building my second home about a year ago. I was the homeowner/builder. I took a lot of knowledge from Matt and his channel. Every time I see a new video I want to start a new one!! Great content from you and your network of builders. Thanks Matt for putting out great content that we all can learn from. 👍
That was really nice to see, pretty trick on those big windows. Not something you go cheap on. Charles
@finishcarpentryTV got a pretty hilarious quote from Pella.
4:40 Funny I use them on all my professional camera and video gear for mounting to vehicles and planes, they are great! 🤠👍
Okay, that is going to be a ‘basketball court/pickleball court/ gym’, that has to be, at a minimum, tempered glass, but optimally laminated safety glass.
Yeah, first thing I pictured was the huge expensive glass windows getting shattered the first time a ball comes their way.
@@makerpatI have thrown hammers at old large tempered windows we removed. It's very hard to break. Tap the edge with the hammer and it shatters.
Wouldn't those metal plates conduct a lot of heat and cause condensation?
Yes, aluminium is the absolute worst material to use for this... Will probably be dripping wet and have a cold draft around it
@@tullgutten I was thinking the same thing.
Installing Pella is a whole other animal. " They make it look easy" is an understatement. XOOOOX. The dealership openings, do you do that?
Amazing work ❤
Is it an optical illusion or is there a dip on the left side at the base of the window opening?
I put in 95x42" tempered double pane, argon flushed from a canceled defense contract which I got 15 windows for 2k. brand new never installed in the crate.
How much would this normally be?
Matt why didn't they use the stretch tape on all four sides of the opening? The heavyset window my father installed was a eight inch thick window for a swimming pool viewing space. 1800 lbs I recall.
What's the airtightness performance of Pella windows vs Jeld-wen, passive house windows? Do you get overall similar blower door test results?
Did they mention the size? 16 x 10?
Wow Matt, amazing you put out this video when I really needed to know this! Thank you! Awesome!
Amazing, might be the biggest window I have ever seen.
you haven't seen enough windows. cardinal glass is miles behind the sizes from saint gobain and others.
That Aluminium brace should really have been thermal broken/stainless steel or glass fiber composite. 😳
This will be a hell of a thermal bridge to the outside and will show extremely well on thermal imaging!
Hope to see this in thermal when finished and a large temperature difference innside vs outside
The average temperature for winters in Salt Lake City is around -2°F so it should be perfectly fine. ;)
@@joeblack007forever and how would it be fine with nice indoor temperature all over the house expect in the middle of those windows where it will be outside temperature and very likely a puddle of water or ice from it condensing all the indoor humidity? It will lead to damaged floors windows and mould.
PELLA is junk they should have used Andersen .
This is an indoor sport court for an obviously wealthy client. Something tells me they can afford to mitigate any factors of having giant windows/doors in that room.
@@joeblack007forever I think you meant 27F for the LOW average. Maybe you're just trolling.
What’s the best window brand in your opinion? My parents had Pella and I put Pella in my new house and Pella actually installed them. I’m not totally sold on them, had a little trouble
Andersen is a better deal, cheaper, cus they sell so many. Sunglass for hot spots is magic...
I was look into at Aplen windows there mad t here in the USA. They have r11 windows I’m just carouse what you think about them. Seance there made right here in the USA
What’s the Rvalue of the windows?
If you truly have a difficult or heavy window to install look into the smartlifts for glass.
I wonder if the Pella "innovation" is European tilt turn windows.😂
LOL. That would be great if they come out with them. Marvin did but discontinued them. They had them priced so high, probably too few purchased them.
Up in Utah if you travelling from Texas. Awesome video!
Would be nice to chat about how the flange is thermally broken…didn’t look like it, but I’m sure a detail would properly explain it.
Love the videos but dont always catch on to all the terminology used since i dont do this for a living. Would be nice to see close-ups of the details she was explaining. Like the platform she created to sit the window on and how/where those structural straps were installed
Surprised no one mis-stepped into that gap in the exterior staging platform while lugging those 600lb units.
Glad she got her own installers. The Pella installers I had were amateurs at best.
You should come check out the largest Passive house here in Utah. It's nearly 17,000 sqft.
Folks in Utah tend to have large families, large houses are a thing there
@@robertwalter2841yep, LDS suck up more money per capita than almost anyone else. Gotta get to those higher seats in heaven..
@Navy1977 yes
It's funny, I was about to say that looks more like a gymnasium than a house. Hopefully it's all tempered glass.
pella windows got installed in my family's Michigan house after we had a complete loss fire and a full home rebuild. The pella windows didn't last 15 years. They were absolutely trash.
She is 🔥
At the end of the video I still think Matt's voice was higher pitched.
Used Pella for our widow upgrade.
Not seeing the point of super expensive tall windows where the view & light at the top third is blocked by a big porch roof overhang. Plus the actual vista is a bunch of neighborhood housing…
👍
My Pella windows are junk and the support is non existent.
Wood?
They do nice work, but the houses the build have horrible architecture and design. I guess they're just building what the client pays them to, but it's sad to see so much money and work go into those things.
pella wanted 16K for 6 lifestyle windows. hilarious........
They better have been paid well to move and install those windows/doors I deliver windows bigger than this and I barely make $23 an hour
Has Pella in anyway caught up to EU standards?
No way
Beautiful window to look into your neighbors window. Cannot believe people spend this kind of money just to be stacked on a neighbor.
I hate it when I get stacked by my neighbors
@Navy1977 close to. Are you dim? You can Google that one as well.
@@mrstinky2421my brother in Christ, you can’t call someone dim while simultaneously being dumb enough to say it means close to. In no way shape or form is stacked even appropriate for describing being too close to something.
Have you seen his neighbor's wife though?
Who cares? It's a basketball court. People can see you play. So? People can see you play if you have a hoop in front of your house. People are too worried about what other people think instead of living their life how they desire.
Here in usa there are homes made of wood that last 150+ year's.
$ per day thats a grest investment for a wood frame.
3 months later, service department will have to come out and reglaze it due to stress cracks
Why would you want a giant window to allow your neighbor to look into your house? This makes no sense to me for the site.
Landscaping and interior work (drapes, blinds etc) not yet completed so yes, at first it does look exposed. Additionally, many hours of the day the windows will often provide some reflection that adds to the privacy. Add a plant or two and with the extended porch, you’ll get incredible light but not the harsh sun.
We did the same at my previous house, and at the same point in construction I felt maybe it was too much and will neighbours always be looking in, so we invested in custom blinds that we could drop down when ever we felt ‘exposed.’ In the end, we rarely dropped the blinds. The floor to ceiling windows became a major selling point when we left the house.
so where is the giant window? All i see is a bunch of sections. stupid title

Never, ever, ever get windows from Pella. Unless you want no details on delivery, trash installation by techs who don’t care, incorrect measurements and lousy post sale support to remedy the shoddy installation. Every person that was on my file has been fired and has frightening stories about working there.
Owning multiple properties, people often ask me what windows I recommend. I offer them $1,000 if they pick anyone *but* Pella.
Literally any other supplier will do a better job.
Similar experience. Endlessly sending the wrong sized exterior door. Rep "disappeared". We installed them, so no comment on the Pella installers. Got custom made double hung Fir(extremely fine grained) windows for nearly the same price as Pella.
All she does is stand around and flap her gums. Pella is a decent product but it's also expensive and easily beaten by European products. My experience is 5k for 4 windows in a new bathroom. Totally not worth the expense.
Jesus fuck how much do these cost
Totally ridiculous weight on these windows. Someone is going to die. Wouldn’t installing a combination unit get you to a similar U-value?
A double glazed window with a removable storm window built in at the factory. Alpen makes the WinSert interior storm window in single or double glazed. These could be specified in the design to double the U-value of your best double pane units.
@@Krunch2020 single glaze windows are mostly illegal, doesn't meet any standards, min is sealed low e..even now just standard low e is way behind technology. When there are several versions of low e coatings. Look up cardinal glass, they make the actual glass and sealed units for Andersen, lots of choices in coated window glazing. i use low e 4 sunglass glass all around even the sliding doors, fantastic to keep out the heat in summer, and adds privacy, since they don't look clear from outside, but are perfectly clear inside looking out. Magic, science, technology Low e 4 sunglass Andersen calls it, cardinal uses generic terms, since they make the stuff for lots of the window mfgs. glazing is Cardinal, as with all the different coatings. There is even different variety of sunglass, just look at the numbers...it matters
Windows are better than entire house. House is made out of woods 😅😂😅😂 never ending repairs

@@sethdistler5332 guy i know has a house in Italy where he was born, well past 700 years old, like every 100 years they redo the insides., people still live in it..we make houses out of dead trees,Europe has houses out of stone, and are still more energy efficient. We just started to realize mini splits exist in the U.s., we are always behind, just blow a lot of smoke, rah rah rah.
