My stroke was one year ago. Videos like this have helped me get more results than the therapy I was given. The idea with the card board is spot on and so helpful. I'm the type of person who works off the concept of "why", I do so much better when I know why Im doing it that way.

Bob and brad, regarding taping the hand to a cup: I put on a rubber glove from my kitchen, gripped the cup and used tape to tape the glove loosely on the cup. I cut the glove short so that it was easy to slip on and off the hand. Easy to use over and over. My affected hand was the non dominant hand. I have a problem with spasticity, so this really helped me work on those stuck muscles.

You, guys, are awesome!!! I am a Conductive Education practitioner. I can acknowledge and highly appreciate your contribution to the world society. I am quite certain that you help thousands of people. The only thing I want to mention (hopefully anybody can read that) quite a few conceptions mentioned by you, guy had been already well-known to the people behind the Iron Curtain a long while ago (you know... such as neuro-plasticity, advantage of the Can do attitude over the compensation..importance of feel of success.. that stuff). This is one of the evidences when a human brain can not be boxed up and demonstrates way more potential than it seems to have, contrary to the new era behavioral approach when the human behavior is presented on a basis of cause and effect, exactly like the mice that they run their experiments on.

Brand new DPT here. Wanted to just hop in and say that my first impression of you two were that you were a bunch of old geezer PTs that taught too simple exercises that anybody could find in a protocol book. Then I realize that the PTs nowadays try to be to hip and use all these special techniques and movement screens etc... Sometimes I just need to look up a few simple things for patients, and have an actual hard to thinking about them without it seeming boring. You guys provide that resource for me, and I thank you, sometimes just gotta go back to the basics.

One question... how to isolate the movement so that the person is using the shoulder as opposed to just rocking back and forth from the hips. What was so hard for me was getting controlled movements. My hand and arm COULD move, the problem was it moved at it's own volition, and I dropped and broke a lot of dishes, etc, because the hand would just open on it's own, or the arm would fling out unexpectedly. I've done most of my own physical therapy using therapists on youtube, like you all. Keep up the good work.

You guys are so handsome. My father had a stroke 5 years ago on February 26th, 2013. I was 16 years old and my little brothers were 13, 11, 10, 8, almost 7, and 4. On February 26th, 2013, I was walking home from school carrying a container of chocolate frosted chocolate cupcakes with chocolate sprinkles and a chocolate bar and some iced tea and some milk since Daddy loves that stuff. When I got home, I saw Daddy's youngest sister, my aunt Becky. I asked her what she was doing at the house and she said, "Daddy had a stroke." I got very scared and started crying my eyes out, so my aunt comforted me. My little brother Isaiah, who was almost 7 years old at the time, was so upset because Daddy had a stroke right before his birthday. He was crying because he wanted to celebrate his birthday with Daddy. Now I am 21 years old and my little brothers are 18, 16, 15, 13, 12, and 9. When Daddy had a stroke, we all prayed for him. I just wish that Daddy could walk and talk and speak in complete sentences again.

He is very lucky he has people that care about him. My isolation and loneliness has been horrible. I had my stroke in 2013 as well.
