Josh, good video! The rumor is the Switch 2 will be around the power of the Series S in terms of raw power (potentially), I also hope they have better policies to prevent companies from putting like 2GB of their game on a cart and 30GB download.
I felt like the switch was the perfect opportunity to combine all these cool features from the wii and 3ds but it just didn't do any of it so people didn't associate it with the wii brand
I still hope they'll utilize the "detachable upper screen patent" that leaked a few months ago and utilize it in their next console. I would be very interested if they make something in between a DS and Wii U but like similar to the Switch. Like, remember that one fake Nintendo XDS video from back in the day? They could do something like that but with a detachable upper screen that you can put on your table (table- top style) and you could put it in your dock (TV- style) so you see the top screen on your TV and the bottom screen on the controller (comparable to a Wii U GamePad or switch lite) And then you could "click" the Top Screen to the controller part with the bottom screen so you could play anywhere, anytime! (Handheld- mode)Or they could make a modern day Virtual/ Augmented reality console with physical and digital media options. The Virtual Boy was too early and the world wasn't ready for VR yet but now it could work, look at the Apple Vision the Vision Pro is really popular. Maybe they can include a stand and a head strap and some new upgraded joy cons without the drift issue and make it compatible with the Nintendo switch Joy Cons, the Joy Con, form factor would work perfectly with that. They can make some funky accessories too like they did with the Wii. The wheel thingy and the Ring Fit thingy already exist. What do you all think of these ideas? About The Nintendo Wii U: Nintendo Wii U was a good console, it was the marketing that didn't fit the platform/ audience and it was confusing. I knew someone that worked at a MediaMarkt store back then (a big electronics store in Europe) and he constantly had to explain that it was it's own platform and not a controller for the existing Nintendo Wii system. And social media was a big upcoming thing so all the negativity about the Wii U being slow, underpowered and childish spread like wildfire. I mean, the GamePad was a little gimmicky but it worked so well and it is still a really comfortable controller and i still really like the TV remote feature. I knew some people that hated the Wii U but they didn't know why and they didn't have any good arguments to say why the Wii U was bad Besides it being relatively slow (I don't think it was that much slower then the Nintendo Switch), the graphical architecture of the Wii U is pretty powerful for it's time tho and the Wii U also supported a bunch of (social) media features to watch TV shows and you could actually buy and own retro games and online play was free!
Nintendo had truly so much fun stuff when MR Iwata san was still alive, he was such a good CEO with a true passion for the company. Nintendo really lost the "Nintendo magic" since most of the old executives left. “It struck me, this isn’t the Nintendo I left,” Regie Fils Aimé said
I want to go back to the wii Era of innovation. Creative titles, alot of first party games and games from third parties that were not designed for other systems. I miss kororinpa, boom Blox, wii party and so on. Also metroid will be cross Gen 100 percent. I wish that metroid would be exclusive but Nintendo are a company who want to make money and leaving out a system that has sold as much as the switch has just wouldn't make sense financially.
Guys, I know you're excited, but I am feeling MAJOR unease about the upcoming console (don't know if it will still be Switch branded). I would also like to point out that I'm not feeling so great about Nintendo even now, during a supposed age of "success" for them. Is it really so impressive that the Switch has passed 100 Million? That sounds good, but I am not so sure. Compare this to previous decades where they had not just two consoles to manage at the same time, but 3 or at times even 4! In 1992: NES, GB, SNES In 1995: GB, SNES, VB In 1998: GB, SNES, N64, GBC In 2000: SNES, N64, GBC, N64DD In 2007: GBA, GC, DS, Wii In 2012: DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U In 2019: 3DS, Switch Now, just the Switch. Go over those and put those sales together, taking into account the lower population as well as the general lower popularity of gaming back then. Does the Switch surpassing 100 Million really look so great now? They could essentially pipeline and pedestal all the games onto it, which gives them a boost as well! Compare this to previous eras where they had the games spread out over multiple consoles and needed their developers to be experienced with different types of hardware. And you also have to think about profitability. Switch hardware and games are not cheap to make compared to previous generations. They take longer so a Switch game selling 20 million is not the same as a DS game doing the same. Everything about the system just seems sketchy and "inflated" to me. Nintendo these days feel like they are in worse shape than they used to be in previous decades, while big numbers mask it. Anyway what do you think?
I can’t believe how much I agree with you in this video lol The only thing I really don’t care too much for is a new gimmick, but I will say however I am hoping we can have 2 separate screens like the WiiU. Except this time the pad would be the actual console like the Switch.
We need a Wii Sports / Nintendo Land tie-in game that has online features and integrates Amiibo and an evolution on Miis. Something like Disney Infinity with mini games.
The one controller innovation I would love to see on a new Nintendo console are the trackpads that the Steam Deck has. They work well enough even when there aren't things built specifically for them because they can do so many things. You can use them for a radial menu, or split the trackpad into 4 quadrants to create 4 more buttons, or click and drag with them, they're pressure sensitive and have nice haptic feedback. I have no doubt Nintendo could do a ridiculous amount of things with just the trackpads alone, let alone combining it with the other buttons. They could probably make a pretty compelling WarioWare game using just the two trackpads.
I would like to see backwards compatibility with the original Switch, the return of the virtual console with games that you can actually purchase, and it has to have at least 16 gigabytes of Ram.
Agreed. More power! I hope they keep the cartridges. And, I hope they finally allow games to use both the console screen and TV simultaneously... if this ends up being a Switch 2.
I think the reason we never got a menu update is because they wanted the load times to be as quick and snappy as possible. Nintendo has said before that this was a priority for them with Switch after the Wii U, which could take like a whole minute to boot up. Even going back to the 3DS, the time it takea for the system to boot up can be painful. Hopefully with more hardware power, this won't be such an issue on the Switch's successor, though. I'm glad the Switch sacrificed personality for the sake of convenience if it had to be one or the other; the WaraWara Plaza on Wii U did not make those load times worth it. But hopefully the next system can be the best of both worlds with a powerful processor that can give us a quick-loading UI with all the fancy bells and whistles. Messaging features pose another issue, as I believe Swapnote was shut down due to safety concerns. If I'm not mistaken, I believe there may have been a criminal case where someone was using Swapnote to send inappropriate images to a minor, so I can see why Nintendo would want to stay away from that sort of thing. It's unfortunate for the average, law-abiding consumer, but I get it. As far as gimmicks, I really just want to see Nintendo bring back older ones to make the Switch even more of a "swiss army knife" than it already is. I want there to be an attachable second screen for seamless ports of DS and 3DS games. The screen could also be used as a standalone controller while playing in docked mode to recreate the asymmetrical multiplayer of Wii U. Great potential for tabletop play if you could fold it put where each player has their own screen from opposite sides of the table and are looking directly at each other--like a game of Battleship. Also, I want an included stylus pen. And I want the IR camera on the bottom of the JoyCon moved to the front, with an IR sensor built into the docking station for one-to-one pointer controls like the Wii had. I'd love to see them dabble in stereoscopic 3D again, although I'm not expecting it, since it would drive up hardware costs. It would be incredible if they coukd release some sort of peripheral that enables 3D in games that support the feature though, so if you don't want it you aren't obligated to pay extra for it. I'd be interested to know your thoughts about this, Joshy, as you're the style guy, but I don't think any of the current models of Switch are particularly fashionable. The mismatching color of the JoyCon never did it for me, and I've never been a fan of the matte finish. You like shiny things, so I'm curious whether you would agree with me that the Switch successor should sport a glossy design like most models of 3DS. I think the original 3DS is the most beautiful gaming system ever made--it looks like a premium sports car with a sick, metallic paint job. I know fingerprint smudges are more noticeable on these kinds of surfaces, but I really don't care. I want the actual system itself to come in multiple colors, and not just black with colorful JoyCon. I agree about more streaming services; it baffles me that the Switch still doesnt have Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, or any number of other services. I understand we'll probably never get a web browser again since it opens the door for jailbreaking, but there's no excuse to not have the rest. StreetPass is also a must. I want the console to support 4k docked, 1080p handheld, and there should be 256 GB internal storage at a minimum. I would love for older Switch games to be seamlessly upscaleable. Which brings me to the point of backwards compatability; Switch has such a robust library of amazing games, and if we can't play Thousand-Year Door on Switch 2, I can't express how angry that would make me at Nintendo. I think the Switch 2 may also be the right time to launch GameCube games on NSO. By next year, I think Nintendo will have already remastered most GameCube games worth remaking--but NSO is probably the only way we're gonna see Double-Dash or Melee again. Being able to play those games portablg and with online support would be the dream. I'd pay any amount of money for that, especially if they expand NSO to include Wii, DS, and 3DS games. It would be amazing to have Nintendo's entire first-party library in one convenient place. An open-world 3D Mario with a similar size and scope to Breath of the Wild seems like it could very well be a launch title, although I'm not counting out Mario Kart, either. I think something DK related is also in the works. Given the park expansion, I think we could get a remaster of Returns this year, and then in 2025 or 2026 a brand-new, 3D Donkey Kong game. It would explain why there was so much mixed information about whether a 2D or 3D DK game was in the works from the rumors a couple years ago. It could be that both exist. I think it would also be wise to get out a new Smash Bros. and Animal Crossing within the first couple years. We obviously won't be getting a new, mainline Zelda for some time, but Nintendo can still have a stellar launch window lined up.
But some of those arguments fall apart though when you look at Ds and Wii - both have music, animations and more going on in the menu and both load very fast. Even Wii U after it's update loaded pretty fast. As for Swapnote safety concerns - play Splatoon with the messages on. It's filled with inappropriate messages and Nintendo doesn't seem to care.
That was the weird thing is this was my first home console that i paid for on my own and it felt like the fun of owning a switch wasnt there. And the charm of the handheld stuff went away after a bit. I will give some grace cause covid took a big chunk of the systems life away but the fun stuff could have easilly been done still.
Swapnote, streetpass, and themes are dearly missed and much needed to help the switch-line to not feel so empty and lifeless. So many overall missed opportunities for the Switch!! But I hope Nintendo implements more charming features in 2.
Id like to finally see the fruits of the "combining hand held and console development teams" that we were supposedly getting for forever and still really havent gotten.
The reason there aren't any Wii/Wii U/3DS features on the Switch is because they wanted to make sure that customers understand it's something completely new and has nothing to do with these previous consoles. I think the Switch successor will be something completely different and won't even have "Switch" in its name, so it makes sense for them to return to the fun apps and themes, to differentiate again from the previous system.
I think Metroid Prime 4 should and is going to be cross-gen. Even after development restarted, it was being developed for the Switch well before the Switch 2 was on the radar. Plus, I think it having access to the much bigger userbase for the Switch while the new console is just getting started, is going to be important for it to have any kind of success. I love Metroid, but it's still a niche series, and even the best-selling games Prime and Dread haven't sold too well overall. Prime 4 is going to need to be able to reach the biggest possible audience it can, and making it exclusive to the new console is going to do more harm than good. This isn't going to work the same way Halo did for the Xbox back in the day.
If it is also on the normal Switch that would mean the game had to be held back in order to also run on that platform. I don't personally want that. Also the attach rate for Switch users to new games is showing signs of wearing down, whereas a new exciting system would mean higher attach rates. Switch's time is about up, best to move forward, and I think making Prime 4 and exclusive launch title for Switch 2 would help it's sales and help it stand out.
@@TheBitBlock It's only held back if it was being developed for the Switch 2 and had to revert, which given the timings, I don't think is the case. Prime Remastered also shows us just how graphically powerful even the Switch can be, so I don't think we'll actually be losing out on that much, aside from maybe load times between areas. But your other points are fair, yea
I think the gimmick should be VR, but the caveat is all you need to buy is an extra headset. Just plop the Switch 2 in, and bam, instant VR, complete with passthrough for AR games, and a massive screen you can play your non-VR games on inside the headset. The only issue with this is cost.
We'll assuming we don't get Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and Corruption HD Remastered for the Switch, perhaps they should release the full Metroid Prime Trilogy HD Remastered for whatever the Switchs successor.
There's a rumor going around that Nintendo's new console is similar to the Switch but in 4K, powerful then PS4 Pro and Xbox One X but its not as powerful as PS5 and Xbox Series X, it'll also have a 7 inch LCD screen and it'll cost $300 USD / $470 AUD like the original Switch cost.
Hopefully Nintendo watch this video because you described everything I would love in the Switch2! I couldn’t justify getting a Switch since I was pretty broke before, but now it’s so late I’d rather invest in a Switch2! I think you brought up some great points, I didn’t realise the menu wasn’t customisable like 3DS (I have the Star Fox Zero wallpaper with the music too!) I’d love it if they brought back Miitomo! It was fun to create a Mii, buy the clothing, select the voice, decorate your rooms, share ideas and answer the weekly questions etc! (I know it was all marketing research at the end of the day, but it was so much fun!)
I like the idea of bringing back the fun little quirks of the 3DS Wii u era menus and all but the most important thing are the games and I hope to god the games are a bit more ambitious Like no ports of Mario kart 8 lol and no more half baked “free DLC” games.
Maaaaaaan street pass was the shit! I loved street pass along with the miitopia adventure game when you interact with real ppl. They have to install it back! Yesss! Buying menu screen themes! That would be so great! That would make perfect aesthetics! 60fps. Plz. Having to take care your mii like in that app Miitomo! I’m still pissed they abandoned it!
Joshy, me and the boys have been begging for switch themes for about 7 years. RIDICULOUS that they don't exist. Nintendo please take my money so I can have Vivian from ttyd hanging out with my game icons
3:38 Probably not going to happen. It’s probably going to be about as powerful as the PS4/Xbox One. Besides the fact that it would be expensive, it would also kill the battery, should this device have the same “hybrid” form factor. But I do agree on the performance side. I don’t really care about Nintendo’s games looking that much better, but if the additional power allows them to create larger worlds that can load faster, and if larger portions of said world can stay in memory without performance suffering… that kind of stuff matters to me more. Bowser’s Fury was pretty great, but it’s clearly held back by the Switch’s hardware. If the next true 3D Mario (which might also be a Switch 2 launch title) plays like Bowser’s Fury but with better performance AND the world is larger and more varied.. this is where I think the additional power matters more. Also, this isn’t 2005 anymore. Even if Switch 2 has PS4-esque visuals, there isn’t that much of a noticeable difference between the generations like there once was. Hell, there wasn’t even that much of a visual difference between the PS3 and PS4 generations… you had to actively look at games side by side to actually spot this. Ever since the 2010s, shoving in more expensive higher performance hardware has given video game systems diminishing returns, increasingly so with each generation.
You really highlight the hallmarks of what made previous console generations so great from Nintendo. The personality and charm imo trump pure technical power/spec (although fidelity would be nice). Great vid Joshy!
Yeah I hate trasfering photos though Social Media, using sd card or use cable just to share. Build-in would be nice. lol you're too optimistic of Medriod Prime 4. That logo was to save Nintendo from the embarrassment on that year e3. I believe that game is never made to begin with, despite the reports of being "developing."
I just want power. I don’t care about anything else. To me Nintendo generally make the best games so I don’t want them looking very dated on arrival. I want them looking the best they can look. And someone for the love of all things sacred, give their staff a crash course in anti aliasing.
Metroid prime 4 was made for the switch saying it would be held back is silly because it was always designed for the switch. As for power let's be real the law of diminishing returns is hitting the gaming industry hard this generation things aren't as impressive as they once were. Graphics are less important now more then ever
6:08 "I find it hard to believe that somebody could be a Nintendo fan and be extremely opposed to controller gimmicks" Well then you haven't met a Star Fox fan because the last thing we want in our Star Fox games is hardware controller gimmicks. They've killed the series because of that "GIMMICK FIRST" philosophy for StarFox. I'm looking at you Star Fox Zero and Command
@@undergroundhiphopfan6335 recently yes, but I am someone that understood the controls right away. However... that doesn't change the fact that nintendo allowed a game like zero or command to happen. Cause clearly the common consensus is "it would have been great if it didn't have those controls".
I really don't think it matters that much if Im being honest. I think everyone is just using discord on their phones or other devices for voice chat, at least that's what I have seen in my experience. I cant remember the last time I joined a Playstation party or Xbox Live chat. I do think there should be discord integration on the console tho like Xbox and Sony have. Easy, cheap solution that requires very little effort by Nintendo.
@@JsYTA no like a built-in voice chat like when the wiiu if anyone has played before the online play shut down yesterday it had a built-in voice chat to talk to other players on the wiiu I understand that there's an app called Nintendo switch online that lets you chat with other people on the app but you have to create an account for that but the switch 2 needs a built-in voice chat to talk to other players or friends that's just my opinion

Wacky, creative & unique softwares/applications; Streetpass, that arcade badge game, AR card game, the face shooter game from 3DS & those other fun Mii, Wii, weather/news applications but make them unique to the new system. Prioritise Miis more, they’re seriously some unique avatars, would love to see them get more front and centre stage like the Wii/Wii u & add more customisation like you said. A messaging feature & more social interaction like within communities & stuff Backwards compatibility A great starting launch for the new console; hoping for Mario Kart 9, a new 3D Mario, Metroid Prime 4, a New true Donkey Kong game & a new Splatoon or new IP that utilises the new gimmick. Also Tomodachi life 2 would be incredible but unsure if it’s console launching material. Finally I hope it’s powerful, like you Nintendo needs to REALLY step it up, switch is Great but it’s so behind, they could do so much better, I hope it’s on par or better than the steam deck, that’s a great system imo.
About The Nintendo Wii U:
Nintendo Wii U was a good console, it was the marketing that didn't fit the platform/ audience and it was confusing.
“It struck me, this isn’t the Nintendo I left,”
Regie Fils Aimé said
also if the weather just casually shows in the corner or whatever, it give me an indirect heads up for the day!
I want to send this to Nintendo directly! This is spot on.
In 1992: NES, GB, SNES
In 1995: GB, SNES, VB
In 1998: GB, SNES, N64, GBC
In 2000: SNES, N64, GBC, N64DD
In 2007: GBA, GC, DS, Wii
In 2012: DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U
In 2019: 3DS, Switch
Now, just the Switch.
I can’t believe how much I agree with you in this video lol
The only thing I really don’t care too much for is a new gimmick, but I will say however I am hoping we can have 2 separate screens like the WiiU.
I hope they bring back the virtual console just like the Wii days.
I would like to see backwards compatibility with the original Switch, the return of the virtual console with games that you can actually purchase, and it has to have at least 16 gigabytes of Ram.
The Mii's Need to return, even though they were on the Switch they weren't in that many games.
They were IN the switch. You gotta dig for that Mii Maker. Super depressing…
Been loving your content recently
Agreed. More power! I hope they keep the cartridges. And, I hope they finally allow games to use both the console screen and TV simultaneously... if this ends up being a Switch 2.
It needs Backwards compatibility.
Needs better Labo integration. And Street Pass.
Great video! :) was really sad we never had themes... and even if it pushed 1080p 60fps constantly, that'd be great 🙏
I think a second screen could be a crazy good addition if added properly
I agree with everything in this video and more. Give us a better menu and games that for the most part are finished.
Great topic 🎉
TheBitBlock is back!
I like the idea of bringing back the fun little quirks of the 3DS Wii u era menus and all but the most important thing are the games and I hope to god the games are a bit more ambitious
Like no ports of Mario kart 8 lol and no more half baked “free DLC” games.
I hope to god we don’t have to use friend codes anymore it’s annoying and lame Wii U had it best look up a name then add to f-list
The more I hear about what Josh wants, the more I think people just want a console 3DS. It has basically all these features
System wide achievement system so I can track my progress in all my games
You really highlight the hallmarks of what made previous console generations so great from Nintendo. The personality and charm imo trump pure technical power/spec (although fidelity would be nice). Great vid Joshy!
How should Mario Kart 9 iterate upon the series to be a worthy successor of 8?
Josh is on top of his game lately, great video!
JOSH THOMAS!!
Big thick long wii? Pics?
Yeah I hate trasfering photos though Social Media, using sd card or use cable just to share. Build-in would be nice.
lol you're too optimistic of Medriod Prime 4. That logo was to save Nintendo from the embarrassment on that year e3.
I believe that game is never made to begin with, despite the reports of being "developing."
Need a new Mario Party at launch too
I just want power. I don’t care about anything else.
To me Nintendo generally make the best games so I don’t want them looking very dated on arrival. I want them looking the best they can look.
And someone for the love of all things sacred, give their staff a crash course in anti aliasing.
Just bring back Miiverse, that solves a few of your requests/needs.
I WATCHED THE ORIGINAL CUT
I had it in the background. Was there a difference?
There was just an editing mistake where he cut it early I think, that's it lol@@aBathingSloth
I think the Switch 2 needs more classic games
I hope this is true!
Metroid prime 4 was made for the switch saying it would be held back is silly because it was always designed for the switch.
As for power let's be real the law of diminishing returns is hitting the gaming industry hard this generation things aren't as impressive as they once were. Graphics are less important now more then ever
I hope you are prepared to get literally nothing you asked for except more mario kart.
6:08 "I find it hard to believe that somebody could be a Nintendo fan and be extremely opposed to controller gimmicks"
Well then you haven't met a Star Fox fan because the last thing we want in our Star Fox games is hardware controller gimmicks. They've killed the series because of that "GIMMICK FIRST" philosophy for StarFox.
I'm looking at you Star Fox Zero and Command
Did you ever do it two player? Might be the best one if you play it like that.
@@undergroundhiphopfan6335 recently yes, but I am someone that understood the controls right away.
However... that doesn't change the fact that nintendo allowed a game like zero or command to happen. Cause clearly the common consensus is "it would have been great if it didn't have those controls".
What the new switch 2 needs is a voice chat
Nintendo doesn't know what that word means.
"Voice Chat? Were you prehaps referring to the Nintendo Switch Online App?"
@@starfoxmaster" ......built.....in?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you are referring to the Nintendo Switch Online App for Android and Apple devices."
It needs an internet browser so i can 🏴☠️ all my movies and shows
We want tomodachi life (without gay marriage) and Pokemon Battle Revolution DX and Pokepark 3 and Pokepark DX in Nintendo switch 2
without gay marriage? 😂 weird detail to throw in there but ok
@@poopy6969lol Tomodachi Life in 3DS is without gay marriage. 🏳️🌈
I want a world without religion too but hey not everyone gets what they want.
@@duckking09 Lol true. It's just how life is. 🏳️🌈
whats the difference between adding and not adding gay marriage 😭 LMAO
Wait... Bit block is back?!?!
Edit... Just checked the channel... Was him not making videos on this channel anymore a fake memory? Loool
There was a while where he stopped and was posting on his JT Shine channel (including some opinions). After about a year or so, he returned to this channel.
I want Xenoblade X and Nintendogs.
Backwards compatibility and games like Mario maker 3 and Tamodachi life 2 with physical media! If they go digital only im out~>
Switch 2 doesn’t need anything because it doesn’t even need to exist. The current switch is more than enough for what Nintendo does.
The state the obvious video:)
I got this video in my feed. I am disappointed. All you care about is more. You're fueling the fire for failure
The Switch has been a poor console.
Incredible video!!
You mentioned literally everything I want that should be prioritised!!
What I really want:
I want the screen to be much bigger. (Assuming its like the switch)
Better aesthetic/design for its menu, I loved the Wii U menu.
STREETPASS IS A MUST!! I can’t express how much I loved that mode, it was exciting & got me active and out.
A messaging feature & more social interaction like within communities & stuff
Backwards compatibility
A great starting launch for the new console; hoping for Mario Kart 9, a new 3D Mario, Metroid Prime 4, a New true Donkey Kong game & a new Splatoon or new IP that utilises the new gimmick.
Anyways great videos I can’t wait to see what they do and how they handle it
