I'm well aware the "why?!" might have been a rhetorical question, but I'll go for it anyways. The current culture around food, escpecially on RUclips or social media in general, is incredibly snobby. Chefs (at least high status ones) are put onto a pedestal much like doctors. They even dress similarly, wearing white coats. They are also assumed to be authorities in matters of science. To stay on the topic of this current video, most other sandwich recipes you get to see nowadays involve the chef baking their own bread, mincing their own ground meats and spewing "scientific" explanations throughout. And yes, Jamie is also baking his own fresh bread in this video, but usually RUclips chefs go to a whole different level of fuss than Jamie is doing here. Jamie on the other hand, while being a well-trained and skilled chef, is all about getting people who aren't "foodies" already into the kitchen. Regular everyday people without extensive fine dining experience. Just to be clear, I really appreciate this approach and it is very good, necessary even, that someone like Jamie exists. In the eyes of RUclips snobs however, teaching these dirty poor people about food is regarded as a sin. Notice how you also never see Jamie wearing the "chef's whites" nowadays. Also notice how many times, people who don't play by the current rules of "foodie RUclips" often aren't even referred to as "chefs", but rather as "cooks" - not referring to Jamie right now, just in general. It is 100% a classism thing.
I just love to watch Jamie’s videos. He is so enthusiastic. Only me so there is no way I could entertain making anything. Remember him as the naked chef, he’s come a long way, well done to him.
