I'll never forget wondering for years why Vader couldn't take the mask off and then finally finding out why in Revenge of the Sith but then learning from the Dark Lord novel just HOW excruciating his pain was constantly. I love your line in the beginning stating "Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire, while flames chew upon your flesh"
The pain kept fueling Vader's rage, thus keeping him immersed in the Dark Side which begs the question; What if Padme WASN'T pregnant with Luke and Leia at all? Would the will of the force have kept Anakin from being injured and ultimately he'd overthrow the Emporer like in the alternate ending of the ROTS video game? While Palpatine would've preferred Anakin to come out of Mustafar unscathed, it ultimately worked in his favor and kept Vader/Anakin in perpetual darkness until the will of the force brought about his son to save him from that perpetual darkness....but what if there was no Luke Skywalker
