En plus d'être un petit génie de la musique, le mec est passionnant et intelligent !
Merci pour cette belle interview.
he's so beautiful just look at his hands
+matevskij wow ur so edgy can you spread butter on my toast
Just came to say that is the weirdest choice for a thumbnail.
Hi, it's Madeon and we're on WeLoveMusic.fr.
1) You are only 20 and you already have a big success. Can you handle it ?
I'm always amazed of course, it's been few years now that I have the chance to do professional music and you start to adjust what you're doing.
But I always try to keep the sensation that I have before, when I was doing my music alone in my bedroom, doing homemade album (like diy) trying to fake the fact that I have a real album.
I still live and work in the same studio, in the same place and when I came back home it's like nothing have change. So it help to keep a distance with all this success.
2) Do you think that you have keep you're teenager energy that you love ?
Yes but it's true that I don't wanted to simply do an album without any reason, just because it's mainstream and it's inevitable.
For me, I've wait to have an idea that need to do an album. I've done single, EP. And so, yeah, for me the album is beautiful because it's like a time travel machine.
The album can capture a time and if I listen to it in 20 years I could feel what i've been during my teenager's period.
So finally with a discography a can create a chronology of my evolution and so it that that make me do an album.
It's true that here, with adventure I wanted to keep the teenager's energy, my feelings, my sensitivity while it's still near by.
3) When do you feel ready to record this album ?
For me it's have begin with a desire and a frustration because with that video on RUclips PopCulture I've been lucky to do a lot of tours in a early age, more than a hundred of show like a DJ.
And I've love that. It was really fun and pleasant but in the same time it's feel like disconnect with what I wanted to show and I begin to feel a little bit shut in (?) with all this DJ's stuff.
And it didn't feel like I was doing something deep (important) with all this DJ set. So one day I've decide to stop and I've refuse all the other job (Invitation to do another dj set) and during more
than 6 months I've locked myself in the studio to do the album. Already I wanted to make a turn, to stop this form of career where I felt shut in (?).
I wanted to try a new type of things, I wanted to try much longer songs and create a new live (set) that will fit with all my new feelings, songs but always in a electronic style.
But that still sound like me and so all this things make me want to do this album and also I've been thinking that I begin to change with my musical taste and I absolutely wanted to capture this moment right now before i start to explore nex things.
4) You travel lot. Where have you record the album ?
I've done the majority at home in Nantes (France), I've also done some concert during this time, so some tracks have begin in Los Angeles or New York but in the end it's always return home in Nantes and it's always there that I finish the track.
Also I've done some featuring with some artist from UK or USA and so I've work with them in their studio. SO a lot of travel with this album too but for my it's important that the origine of the album come from my home.
5) You have done a lot of featuring with many artists. What do you remember ?
A lot of things for sure. Because I'm a home producer I'm not use to work in a real studio with other musician for my own music. I really wanted to have a human touch, to be in the same room.
I noticed that I've learn a lot because every single featuring was really different in the process. For example with Mark Foster I decided to come with nothing prepared.
So just me and him with a keyboard to make a song and to care about all the sonority of the song after. But with Dan Smith of Bastille I came with something totally finished and we just met to write the lyrics and it was the total opposite (than with Mark Foster).
With all I want and what these artists's needs every single featuring where unique. And so after I came back each collaboration I was inspired with many different aspect of the music that I can see with their music.
6) How could you describe the atmosphere of this album ?
I have two point in this album that I wanted to joined. I wanted to start with a very happy thing, a little bit like kid stuff with hopping sound, pop style and then end with something more larger, more epic.
So like in the track "La Lune" this one combined both of them with this nostalgic style but it's also like the starter for the next song. It's a very good track to introduce the rest of the album.
7) There is a real progression in "Adventure". Is there any synopsis ?
Yes actually I have a real structure before I even started to write the songs. I knew that I wanted to begin with a pop style then go to a more electronic style, darker to have a good ending like a sweet thing.
And then start to grow and become bigger and more sensitive and epic.
8) It's been the first time that you actually sing. How it happened ?
It's not a desire in any mean. I wrote this song "Home" and so I've done that during one of my regular sessions where I locked myself for 24h and I force myself to write 3 songs. It's something very intense and with that I can create new song that will not show up without this process.
And so I were alone and the only way to record the song was to sing by myself. I had a mic and so I did it. After it seems that the actual track seems to be more cool and it will be awkward to ask someone to sing that song.
The vulnerability and the amateurism of doing it by myself make this song very personal and I find it interesting, so I decided to kept it but I didin't wanted to be a singer it's was more an honest thing.
9) Where do you think you are in the french electronic scene ?
It speaks to me as a listener, it's true that I don't feel inside a electronic movement or in a particular scene at all. It's something that I really like cause I can make my music for my part.
My desire is to make pop music with feelings because that's what I like and I just use the electronic sound cause for me it's the more largest type of sound and the most interesting.
So I use it, instead of making club music or dance music , I use it for pop music. It's my way to feel the electro.
Skyn3N English is not my mothertongue so I surely make mistakes. Please be kind ;)
Skyn3N the translation it's perfect to me :) (i'm mexican) THANK YOU SO MUCH ♥
Hey thanks for the translation.. Your english's fine.. Damn this kid is epic
Skyn3N " more largest type of sound" That's wrong isn't it, I don't know what he meant by that. Thanks DOE
lllJoseLuislll I do not know how to perfectly translate what he said . But it just means that for him pop/electro music is the best way to express his music. Moreover , he finds that the possibilities are enormous and he can do what he wants without limitations.
Omgg he's tooo niceee
