Im gonna miss you, mangini. For the last few years, your drum was absolutely perfect in the new albums, unlike when you just joined DT. Im one of the fans who is missing earlier DT songs, but with current songs, i cant imagine that MP can play with the trend now

I am so happy to see that he is doing what he loves and has helped make great music over the years.
Mangini is a genius and an absolute master. It is a crying shame he gets so much hate because he replaced Portnoy and actually gets blamed for DT's sound going soft, like he has any control over the mixing and production of the DT records.
I don't think anyone thinks he's not a master drummer. I just prefer Portnoy's sound more than Mangini. Mangini's sound is just so hard. Portnoy's drums sounds more organic, softer.

Watching drum cam footage of Mike playing to any dream theater song feels like an education. The way he chooses every note really seems to flow and follow the music so well. His playing seems to go beyond playing the pocket and really adds color and shape to the groove. He's technically amazing, but I find his drumming in DT boring and flat compared to Portnoy. I don't think that's entirely his fault though; he probably doesn't have the dame degree of freedom as Portnoy did with writing his parts since he's not a founding member.
