  • Millions of pink salmon return to the hatchery in Valdez, Alaska, during July and August. Literally thousands of fish clog every inch of most streams. In this footage you'll gain a first hand view of how intense the run can be.

    • @littlegoobie
      @littlegoobie 5 лет назад +1

      This is low tide, the water will come up anywhere from 1 to 10+ feet and everything you see now will be underwater.

    • @deannelson9565
      @deannelson9565 5 лет назад +1

      There are literally hundreds of millions of salmon in Alaska and Eastern Russia. Hell between the two countries the Fisheries Crews take over 200 million fish a year so a few dying at low tide is of no consequence. Every one of these salmon you see in this video was dead within the next few weeks it's how it works with Pacific salmon they always die when they spawn.

      Say what?? As an Alaska resident I can tell you this is pure BS. During the season which lasts from late March through October salmon was on the menu for residents 3 or 4 times a week. We catch our own fish.
      BTW, Pink Salmon are the low quality for canning. If you catch them and vook them fresh they are great eating. Chum Salmon, also called Dog Salmon are the lowest quality. Markets now call them Keta Salmon or Silver Bright Salmon in order to fool people into thinking they're getting something good. The native peoples feed them to their dogs. They are fairly good smoked, tho.

    • @mylord8590
      @mylord8590 6 лет назад +1

      Are you kidding me?? Where did you hear that?? The people of Alaska and commercial fishermen harvest millions of pounds of salmon annually!!! They feed it to their sled dogs and use it for subsistence living.

      @@perduk1 seeing more canned coho in the past few years which is strange because i didn't think there was much of a commercial fishery for them. ...or maybe they come from another country, i've never picked up a can to check it out.
      Yeah, AK residents tend to be stuck on the reds, kings, and halibut, along with hunted game meats. When you're allowed to pick and choose, and can only eat so much, you go for what you like most. ...2 of my friends have developed a taste for pink salmon after years of the usual reds/silvers/kings.

    • @littlegoobie
      @littlegoobie 5 лет назад

      Those culverts don't go anywhere good for fish. The other side of the culvert is basically a small body of water + ditches that go nowhere. The runoff you see coming out is mostly minor ground water, it's not a river system.. The barriers covering the culverts prevent thousands of fish from crossing the road where they'll die, rot in a marsh or in parking lot size pools of water. The whole area will smell.
