Just adding a comment to say that *the elf mascara removes like a true tubing formula, with just warm water* (exactly like the Thrive does). Also, it's made in Germany!
Great, I have an elf coupon, so I can get it in Brown, for 5.00 . I’m trying to find more brown mascaras , and you’ve done it again. ❤❤❤❤❤great hoodie , thanks for wearing it online 😢😢
I love that we're in the era of tubing mascara! Recently all my mascaras have been smudging and gross but tubing formulas are always good for my lashes
I couldn’t agree with you more. I gave up on mascara most of my life unless I’m at a situation where I can look in the mirror every 15 minutes and then near a restroom to fix potential problems. I found the Blinc mascara and only buy that one. Never had a chance to try the No 7. It was discontinued asap. Most people loved it. 🤷🏻♀️ Thrive was too clumpy for me and too expensive for something so messy. Never washed off clean as well. I think for the price I will try this one.
Fully agree. If it ever gets restocked anyone who loves tubing mascara should check out the Miss A Paw Paw Big Boss mascara, it's my favorite and less than $2! Their Shocking Length Mascara is not labeled as tubing but it literally comes off in tubes and it's incredible. Genuinely both look better than either in this video and they're dirt cheap. Made me wish I could un-purchase all the drugstore mascaras I bought recently 😢
Me too, I started out not liking how my mascara dissolved when washing my face, but it was ok, now I've finally tested methods on how to apply mascara to my bottom lashes so I can vary my looks, only to learn my holy grails smude mid wear. 😢
The elf side looks so much better then the thrive side! Thanks for sharing. You've done great this week. Enjoy the weekend! I appreciate you keeping us company !
I like both eyes but Elf seems to look even better than Thrive. I can’t seem to put on Thrive without clumping. But I do have much older eyes. I must try the Elf next for sure. Thanks Jen. 👍
I didn’t realize they were coming out with a new one to dupe the Thrive. I like the Milani one but I’m excited to see how the Elf compares. Thank you for your content 🤍 Edit… the Elf one is definitely intriguing as I prefer a dryer formula. The Milani one is very wet and heavy so I have to use a eyeshadow primer on my lashes to help hold the curl. Alexandra Anele has a tutorial on that hack, works well.
Did you do anything special to get the Milani to work. The thrive mascara is my fav tubing mascara but bc I don’t wear makeup everyday, it goes bad before I use even half of it. And considering the price I can’t justify that. I bought the milani one but it literally gave me less lashes. And apparently I’m not the only one who had that issue. I’ve wondered if letting it dry out a bit or combing my lashes immediately after application might help. Anyways I’ve been curious to find out what ppl who have a good experience with the milani one have done bc I hate wasting money.
@@Comrade_mommy The Milani one is very wet...I usually wipe off the brush on a tissue to get rid of the excess and then apply it and that works much better. After it dries out in a few weeks, then I don't have to do that as much and can apply straight from the tube.
@@JenPhelps cool I appreciate the advice, I’ll def try that. Even if i only spent $14 I don’t want to have wasted the $. I just wish the Tarte tubing mascara didn’t flake on me bc it’s the best looking tubing mascara I’ve ever tried.
This is what I came to ask! So the elf is better. I got the Milani but IDK I don't reach for it a lot, I guess it's too sticky. It's not bad but I'll definitely try this.
Thought the ELF eye looked slightly more curled right after applying. Thought they looked pretty much the same at the end of the day. Just bought 2 new tubes of THRIVE on BF, but will def give ELF a shot when those run out!😊
Mascara is something I'm always willing to try because I need to replace it routinely anyway. I'm excited to try this e.l.f formula. I hope they release it in a deep brown, too, like they did with the Lash 'n Roll.
Not a huge mascara person but I like the look of the elf. I may give it a try. I didn’t understand what the tubing mascara was so thank you for explaining.
I’ve only worn this once, so far so good! I like the drier formula. Normally tubing formulas weigh my lashes down, this didn’t. I also picked up a lip oil, love it!
I ordered the ELF one a few days ago. Needed a new mascara. I've never had much success with their mascaras but this one is exciting. Thanks for the review!
I wear the Milani one; I haven't ever tried the Thrive version. However, I am really excited to try the new Elf "dupe", especially because I think the Milani one is too wet. I just like it because it doesn't smudge and it was more affordable than the high end ones. Thanks for the thorough review!
Thanks so much for the review! I'm definitely going to try the ELF as I liked the Milani one better as it dried out (and if nothing else, these tubing formulas are perfect for bottom lashes). I'm starting to wonder though if I like the idea of tubing mascaras more than the actual product. I love how they remove, but I'm not sure they do my lashes many favors. I keep searching for that perfect one that will look fluttery and voluminous *and* remove in tubes. 😆
I’m glad I gave the ELF a chance, I loved my first impression. I think it might remove with their cleansing balm. If it does it’s a keeper, because that’s what I hate about tubing mascaras: how hard they are to remove with anything but bi-phase removers. I always end up with less lashes from all the rubbing.
Just bought the black and brown to try out because the thrive one is my holy grail! Excited to see if I can get the same look and feel from the elf one for cheaper! Thanks for the review! ❤
From further away, I notice the e.l.f. side first as looking longer and fluffier! I got so excited when I got an email from e.l.f. the other day about this mascara! I wanted so badly to love the Thrive, but it does flake on me. Also, I think e.l.f. really nailed the Lash ‘n’ Roll mascara, which I’ve fallen in love with. But I can’t wait to try this one - especially in brown!
I bought the Elf lash xtendr mascara when it launched on the website. I absolutely love it. It my new favorite mascara. I have dexterity issues and the brush is the perfect size. It does not get everywhere on my lid but still give me very long well defined lashes that last Literally all day. No discomfort or anything negative to say. Usually most mascaras cause some sort of irritation or heaviness at the end of the day. But not this one. It’s a banger.
Omg, this is a wish come true! I got the Thrive in an Ipsy and have not been able to justify the price to rebuy but I LOVED it! Ahahahahaha yyyyaaaaayyyyyy
They look very close but i think the elf side looks the best and i have used thrive before and loved it. Will definitely try the Elf considering the price difference. And i did try Milani and did not care for that one
If you don’t mind my asking, what did you dislike about the Milani? I just started using it and I do find it to be somewhat clumpy but I just assumed my lashes were being finicky, as they sometimes do.
@@Amy-qe7ti yes! A little clumpy but I didn't like the way it made my lashes feel either and I didn't find that it gave me much volume. I have pretty long lashes already and thrive enhanced them even more . But the milani did nothing!
The thrive is actually the mascara I use. Love it. Will definitely try this one. Wanted to share that my mother gave me a mascara that is a tubing one that gives dramatic volume and I love that more. It’s the wowcombo cosmetics. I love that mascara. Give it a try. Thanks for sharing. 😊
That was a great way to compare these two (three) and define what could be considered a “dupe”. It was really helpful to hear which formula is drier which works better for me since I have straight Asian lashes. I think when a mascara is described as volumizing, what people really mean is that you layer on coats AND the lashes appear girthier, if you will. Lengthening to me means coating without the rigidity and girth. The elf one being called extension is not descriptive/accurate enough for people who don’t have naturally thick or curled lashes. I would have thought it was a wet formula, so I like how you went into detail and described the feel and effects.
I'm glad to finally find a drugstore tubing mascara that comes in brown and actually tubes properly! I've used the Clinique one on and off for years, but it's over $20 and the Elf one is $7.
Just bought the ELF Xtndr in brown and am blown away, best mascara I've ever tried. And only £7 unbelievable value. Knocks Hourglass and other top end ones out of sight ❤❤❤
I tried the Thrive mascara a couple years ago after it flooding my social media with ads, lol…I did not like it when I tried it the first time, freshly opened. I put it down, and didn’t pick it back up for a couple weeks, (I was so disappointed after it being in my face all the time and finally giving in to try it and it’s not cheap). After a couple of weeks something magical happened, it was amazing!!! I was so confused because when I first opened it I didn’t like it at all, lol. It’s now my holy grail mascara, and I compare every other mascara to it. HOWEVER, I did pick up the Clinique mascara today in the pretty green tube! I remembered your video, and I know we have the same taste in mascara, so I’m very excited to try it tomorrow ❤❤❤. I’ll let you know how it goes! 😊😊
I agree with you about tubing mascaras. Especially as we age who wants to messing with the eye area? These look identical! I’ll be giving this a try. I love ELF. PS…CT reminds me of PA!
SHARON SHNEYER , Thenth, I haven't worn mascara in ages, but when I did, it was the tubbing one from a brand called Blinc (sp). I don't know if they're still around. I have severely oily eye lids. You can get waterproof mascara, but not oil proff.
Good morning from NJ! Last night I was shopping on the Elf website & decided to purchase this mascara. So glad you did a review & glad it was positive since I watched your video after purchase. Thank you, Jen, for all your reviews. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Looked like you got more volume on the e.l.f. side and you can’t beat the price. I am currently using the Thrive, but will certainly give the e.l.f. a try.
Definitely 100% the ELF one is so much prettier and looks flawless. thanks for sharing. BTW, I love your VLOGMAS videos and look forward to watching them everyday. ❤
I’ve been searching for a dupe on the Thrive mascara for years now! It’s my absolute favorite, and nothing has ever matched it for me. But the price is brutal! I am SO glad I found this video. This is the first time I’ve seen a dupe (or any other tubing mascara for that matter) that actually looks promising. The results are incredible! Can’t wait to try it.
Finally watching your review. I didn't want to watch until I filmed mine so it wouldn't influence my opinion. But I completely agree with you. While it's not a dupe in the strictest sense of the word, it for sure is an affordable alternative. Btw, love that your sweatshirt matches the mascara tubes😂.
Hi Jen I tried a variety of tubing mascaras including some from Japan and Korea. I have very watery eyes and had hoped for something that would be easier to remove than waterproof but still not run/smudge. Unfortunately my tears are just warm salty water😂 and the tubes fall off through the day plus they smudge/smear and flake into my eyes. Just a word of warning for others with watery eyes 😂. Instead I am back to using the benefit they’re real- easier to remove than waterproof but stays on all day. The Elf “dupe” of the benefit roller lash is far more smudgy and runny than its benefit counterpart and was a big fail for me. Looks the same on application but the wear wasn’t at all the same. It’s an area of makeup where Elf just hasn’t worked for me unfortunately. Best wishes x
My eyes water often also. Lancome Teint Idole mascara has been my go-to for 2 years. It's supposedly a gel formula. My lashes stay soft but I definitely get lift/definition/volume/length. It doesn't move but is easily removed at night. I'm curious to see if I like this elf.
Oh 😳 excited to try. I have one or two thrive in mascara drawer. If I see in store I will grab it thank you. I bought the elf lip mask reminds me of my sigma lip mask but better I think.
Completely off subject, and I know it's late, but anyone who has QVC can still catch a great TSV for another hour. 9 Tarte maracuja lip products for less than $60. For anyone who's been wanting to try these products, there is a decent shade range (though mostly nudes) that will work on most skin tones. I hope this helps some of you guys 😊
Thanks for doing this review on the new elf mascara. I, like you, am always looking for a great tubing mascara to rival the Thrive. I ordered the ELF mascara as soon as I found out about it. It was just delivered to my community mailbox, and now I can’t wait to get off my butt and go get it. BTW, that hoodie color you are wearing today looks great on you! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
I’ve been using the Thrive mascara for about 2 years. I was surprised how well the elf mascara looked in comparison. I think I’m going to have to try it. Thank you for the great review!
I ordered from e.l.f.'s website the day this mascara was launched and I almost got it but since I haven't liked any of their mascaras I decided not to, maybe I should have, for now I'll keep using the Relove one, it's also a tubing mascara, it does a good job and for $3 😆 can't beat it... happy Sunday Jen! hugzzz 💜
Elf looks better and ive only used thrive for past two yrs before that I love loreal double prime and tube mascara in the red tube it's amazing but I did notice u only put ur mascara on going up but not both sides of the lash and that can make them fall u should at least do one coat on the other side but great review im buying the elf for sure and u said it's dry I love a dry mascara but imho ur side w/ elf looks way better im shocked how much elf has stepped up their game these past few yrs on makeup and skincare care bringing great products to us that dont get free high end sent to them all the time lk a ton of the you tubers I hate they get all high end then start becoming a person i dont even want to watch anymore thanks for being to and i living pay check to pay check luv to know i can look my best in my budget
I just got the elf mascara in the mail yesterday and have always been a user of the Thrive, so I'm very excited to use the elf today when I go Christmas shopping! Elf has been killing it lately ❤❤ Have a safe and Blessed weekend Jen 🤗🙏🏼💯
I think the ELF side looks better! I see more definition, curl and volume! I can't wait to tray it! Thanks Jen for all your videos. You are one of my favorite youtubers because you are very authentic and honest ❤️
I just ordered this yesterday not knowing anything about it! I just needed a new mascara lol. So cool to see your review, and that it’s somewhat of a thrive dupe!
I didn’t have any luck with the milani dupe, so I am excited to try the elf one, I like a dryer formula since my lashes are so sparse and short, and plus I have hooded eyes! Thanks so much for the review, I didn’t even know elf had a new mascara coming out!!!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I am going to order the Elf one, as I used to love the Milani one but lately it's looking pretty clumpy. I still love the Maybelline Sky High, but it doesn't wash off as well as these other tubing formulas.
I feel like the Elf did a better job, initially! I’m gonna be running to the store to get me some of this! The ELF looks better! I liked the Milani but am gonna be trying the ELF, for sure! Thank you so much
Hi Jen, thanks for the video. I really couldn't tell the difference between the 2 products on your eyes! To me, if appearance and performance are similar, the products are dupes. But if other people think differently, well, then they do. My preference is for a dryer mascara. I find that wetter formulas tend to smear on me; maybe that's an issue with my application technique. Or that I don't use a lash primer. And again, with makeup, preferences can be pretty different.
I’ve been looking forward to the elf review. I loved Thrive and liked milani although it was a little clumpy. I’m definitely trying this once my current mascara is done. Sandy Hook will forever be in our hearts ❤
Thanks for the quick review! I've never tried the Thrive mascara but I love tubing mascaras (Maybelline Sky High is my current fave) so I'm excited to try this.
Oh wow, I hated Sky High. It shed particles all over my undereye area, and I had a horrible time removing it. I used makeup remover on it and then washed my face, and it just wouldn't come off. I had to use moisturizer on a swab - several times! - to get it off. It was such a hassle that I trashed the tube. I actually double checked that I hadn't bought the waterproof version, and I had not!
Wow! The Elf side looks even more lush and thicker! I have enjoyed the Milani tubing mascara, but this one looks like it can thicken a lot better! I can’t wait to try and if it wears long, I might wear this for my wedding day! I’m currently testing wedding day makeup! Mascara is the most important product in my routine and one that I am still open to finding the perfect one.
Just adding a comment to say that *the elf mascara removes like a true tubing formula, with just warm water* (exactly like the Thrive does). Also, it's made in Germany!
Thanks for this comment and for the wear test. It's amazing that a product that costs $7 looks and performs like a $25 product!
Thank you, Jen!! Can’t wait to try this!
This is just what I was wondering (since not all mascaras that make the tubing claim actually remove as tubes). Thank you! ❤

Good morning from NJ! Last night I was shopping on the Elf website & decided to purchase this mascara. So glad you did a review & glad it was positive since I watched your video after purchase. Thank you, Jen, for all your reviews. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Ohhh!! Great review!! I love Thrive but it is pricey for mascara, but it worked so well I didn’t mind. But I’m definitely going to try this Elf one!!
I’m definitely going to try it. I like to put a coat of tubing mascara over my regular mascara.
I have use thrive for many years but I also use the Loreal primer first and the combo is amazing ❤
I’ve never tried to find a product so fast. Hope it comes to stores!
I think the EL.F. mascara makes ur lashes more fuller and thicker.
I agree with you that they look pretty much the same. Thanks for testing it out for us.
Very excited to try this as I didn’t care for the Thrive formula. It was too wet and heavy, weighed my lashes down. Thanks for the comparison!
Oh 😳 excited to try. I have one or two thrive in mascara drawer. If I see in store I will grab it thank you. I bought the elf lip mask reminds me of my sigma lip mask but better I think.
I like the elf side. Thanks!
Wow that's an amazing deal!!
Wow amazed by the elf mascara. It may just be me but I felt the elf side looked better. Great review 😊
I’ve been using the Thrive mascara for about 2 years. I was surprised how well the elf mascara looked in comparison. I think I’m going to have to try it. Thank you for the great review!
I ordered from e.l.f.'s website the day this mascara was launched and I almost got it but since I haven't liked any of their mascaras I decided not to, maybe I should have, for now I'll keep using the Relove one, it's also a tubing mascara, it does a good job and for $3 😆 can't beat it... happy Sunday Jen! hugzzz 💜
I've been waiting for this review since I heard about this mascara coming out!! I love a tubing mascara so I can't wait to try this!
I prefer a drier formula. I’m excited to try the ELF mascara!
The Elf looks amazing to me
I just got the elf mascara in the mail yesterday and have always been a user of the Thrive, so I'm very excited to use the elf today when I go Christmas shopping! Elf has been killing it lately ❤❤
Have a safe and Blessed weekend Jen 🤗🙏🏼💯
Jen...that color turquoise is everything on you!!!
Merry Merry
Godspeed
Dee
Aw thank you Dee! Merry Christmas to you! 🎄❤️
I think the Elf side looks better! I just bought this Elf mascara. I can’t wait to try it!
I'm glad you managed to get the elf I'm interested to see what you think xx
Definitely gonna try elf
I always appreciate your thoughts on mascara, so thanks for the comparisons!
Edit: Your eye color is just soooo pretty! ❤
I like how ur hoodie matches the color tube mascaras. Keeping it with the theme 💙
Thanks for the review. I loved Thrive, but hated the Milani. I am going to try the Elf.
I think you'll like it much better than the Milani...it's less wet!
I like the Milani, but going try the Elf, frankly I think your lashes look better with the Elf. I used to use Thrive, dont know why I stopped!
I’ve ordered a tubing mascara from Heimish. Have you seen it? I’m excited to try it. ☺️
I've tried that one before! I liked how it made my lashes look but unfortunately it flaked into my eyes during the day and I just couldn't wear it. :(
I’ve been looking forward to the elf review. I loved Thrive and liked milani although it was a little clumpy. I’m definitely trying this once my current mascara is done. Sandy Hook will forever be in our hearts ❤
Yes!! 💕🙏
Thanks for the quick review! I've never tried the Thrive mascara but I love tubing mascaras (Maybelline Sky High is my current fave) so I'm excited to try this.
Sky High isn't a tubing mascara, it's a good mascara that's all.
@@KarlyNicole it removes with warm water and comes off in tubes. They may not market it as a tubing mascara but it certainly performs like one.
Is it tubing??????
Right off the bat I like the elf better but I’m waiting to see your wear test.
I think the Elf side looks better, too. I will give it a try. Thanks!
I returned the thrive and stuck with my elf because I liked it better!
I love all the variety of birdies in each intro. ♥️💚
I honestly thought the elf side had dropped less and your lashes look thicker on the elf side.
Definitely going to give the elf a try!
It's definitely not as heavy as the Thrive so that's probably why! 🥰
