The motors are rebuildable, I fixed issues in all 8 window motors of a 67 Cadillac all 4 of the window motors had 1 issue... the plug prongs on the motors rusted off... So I took the motors apart cleaned them, lubricated them, replaced the brushes, soldered new wires onto the brushes with new copper plug ends, and sealed the motors with silicone. The 4 wing window motors just needed cleaned & lubed none of worked because of grease & dirt on the commutators. I then fixed and cleaned the loops in the plugs at the window switches & cleaned each switch. I took time but very little money and took just a weekend to do. I also cleaned the door grounds to get the door lights & cigarette lighters to work at the same time. The 67s have removable armrest pads to give access to that nightmare door latch handle screw, What a time saver! I weep when I have to remove the door panels of my 65. I saved the guy with the 67 Cadillac $600.00 and made 300 for that weekend That was back in the 90s.
I had a similar problem with one of the rear windows in my 1977 Olds 98 sedan. The motor was OK, but nothing moved. So, I covered every moving part I could reach with WAY too much grease; it was dripping out of the drain holes. I just left it for a week or two, and the next time I tried it, it freed up and from then on it was the fastest, smoothest, of the 4 windows. That door also stayed rust-free, unlike the driver's door. Sometimes, the quick, dirty fix is the best one.
When my dude said it cost...... not a small amount of money. Bro, as a fellow 66 owner, I feel your pain. So many times I was so close to saying eff this car and sell it. But yet here I am on ebay and any website I can find looking for parts still lol
About once a week I’ll just search “1965 Cadillac” on eBay and sort by new just to see what comes up. You can find some good deals if you’re patient. It’s the “oh crap I need this now,” that kills your wallet.
I just bought a 65 coupe in the same color. My first car was a 65 coupe in gold my grandfather left me. I got my license in 1981. So im living in the past.
Looks cool, but should'a read the shop manual, removing the regulator & motor together is the way. thats why you can't just remove the motor alone...its also very dangerous since the window is under spring tension. Also gives access to the tracks and guides to be cleaning and lubed and It will work like new. I've done these on my 67' Caddy Convertible.
