Meat Loaf could have had a career in the opera world. He was offered the opportunity to train and get paid as an opera singer in the early 70s. Meat turned it down because he thought it was too limited for him. Glad he chose rock, we are privileged to have him. This performance is magical!
Although he had the voice, he would have had to strip away the technique that he had (which worked well for his type of operatic rock, but wouldn't work singing classical repertoire) and completely relearn how to sing. At the end of the day, he made the right choice because he sang his kind of music better than anyone ever did.....and there was no guarantee he would have been able to become a top level opera singer even if he trained.
He’s amazing, his emotion is so heartfelt. My parents saw him live when he was much older, and when I played Heaven Can Wait in the car with them, I said time for Meat Loaf, and they said he sounded so much better than when they saw him. The poor guy just got hounded and worked until his dying day. RIP. 🙏❤️
Meat could take the heat! Even when it comes to opera. I knew he could. I have more respect for him now, after watching this performance. I never saw it before! RIP, Meat! God Rest Your Soul.

Love it when rock meets the classical world. Pavarotti had a lot of confidence in Meat Loaf, he went into full Tenor. With Bryan Adams, Pavarotti toned it down a bit so as not to overpower Mr Adams.
Michael (formerly Marvin) will be missed... What surprised me about this performance is that he stood so still... He was such a physical performer. We were so used to his active stage presence... It must have been difficult for him to dial it back to being so sedate.
Mesmerizing duet! I’m struck by the sense that Meatloaf wasn’t a performer, he just sang from his heart. I don’t know how else to put it. He would have sung the same songs the same way whether he was alone or with 20,000 people. If anyone knows the song Mr. Tanner by Harry Chapin, you might understand what I’m trying to say.
Of all the artists performing with Pavarotti Meat Loaf was the one who didn´t appear to get blown off the stage by the opera singers´ bel canto technique.
RIP Meatloaf just passed, Pavoritti already Heavens resident. I preffered the operatic performances of Meatloaf but what a transition he made. Thoughts to his loved ones and grateful he passed this way.
Love this!! All these rock stars that can actually sing good like Meatloaf w / Pavarotti. (Tho imo Pavarotti blows em all outta the water, they're still good). He seemed a gentle, beautiful soul. Not to slight the others w/ him, but it's like watching Baryshnikov dance w/ Gregory Hines in White Nights. Both great dancers, but my eyes still gravitate more to Baryshnikov's dancing. Ppl that excel in what they do to that extent are just scene stealers, ha!
The beautiful talent our Creator bestowed upon him was wasted on R&R. Heaven doesn't wait for anyone. It is our obligation to be obedient to God Almighty. His pour soul needed prayers. Not accolades thinking he automatically went to Heaven. GOD have mercy🙏
A couple of years earlier and Meatloaf would still have had that wonderfully powerful voice of his and this could have sounded so different BUT this is still beautiful to listen to. It reminded me of Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballé, just as unlikely a pair of singer's to put together.
Is this from a d.v.d.? The volume here is atrocious and unlistenable. Thanks for posting though, I guess...so we at least know it exists and to look for it no thanks to other sources.

This just shows that rock and opera don't have to be do far from each other. They can work well when mixed well.
