My dad never really cared for my taste in music and we had a lot of childish arguments about it, but he really liked this song a lot, he had cancer and didn’t get out much but the day this album came out I asked him if he wanted to ride with me to go get it and he said yes, and what was originally a 30 minute ride to the store turned into a couple hours of us just cruising around talking and listening to this album, one of the last meaningful conversations we had together and every time I hear this song it reminds me of that time, definitely a masterpiece and a heartfelt song.

If my assumption is wrong, I apologize, but if I'm correct, I'm sorry for your loss.
You and your father have a great taste in music, and I wish you the best in your life. Those types of moments are what make life worth it, and I wish you many more.
      Cheers to you good sir.

This song helped me through such a dark period having to face 4 years in prison. I discovered Baroness late one night when I couldn't sleep and I was in my head. This song came on an underground radio station. I was stuck and I silently cried while surrounded by bunks of sleeping women. I had an epiphany realising where my addiction got me and decided I was going to rise above this. The next day I bought and downloaded this song onto my mp3 (I know) and listened to it nonstop while I walked around the track in the yard. It was a pure spiritual experience everytime I heard it....

+LadderOfTheGeese completely agree with you. i wasn't the biggest fan of crack the skye but i still really liked it a lot, one of my favorites from that year. mastodons last one, "once more round the sun"? it wasn't bad, I'd say about on par with the lifesblood EP in terms of likability, and i just had to throw on "remission," "leviathan," and "blood mountain" right after hearing OMRS just to relive the glory days. i shed a little tear when mother puncher, hearts alive, and circle of cysquatch came on, lol. such a great discography they have.

+Javier Di Maio I agree, this is a great song but it has too much compression i guess. I think this kind of mastering is a result of records being too "loud" in recent decades therefore lacking dynamics. Finally its a matter of taste.

I saw Baroness in Buffalo last summer, amazing show. I got front row and Pete noticed that I was jammin the whole time and actually came right up to me and began playing the guitar solo directly in front of me, as if to play just for me. I mimicked all the guitar work right beside his hands and played the entire solo like that with him. Incredible concert, amazing band, and a concert I'll never forget. I even got the entire band to sign my purple CD. Thank you Baroness!

This is seriously one of the most epic metal songs I've heard in a long time. The lyrics are profound and the energy and emotion behind the music and singing...this is one of those songs that to me exemplifies what music is really all about.
A lot of people say there aren't any great songs being written anymore...IMO this proves them so very, very wrong. I'm in tears by the end of this every time I listen to it. It's made me want to get back into guitar playing after I'd all but given up on it. Thank you for creating this amazing song.

""Please don't lay me down under the rocks where i'm found, my face in the ground, hope for the fathers and sons"
Something about this line really hits me. I have had a life of feeling forgotten or treated as an afterthought. A lot of that went away after I had my 3 sons. but ill be damned if I feel like I am letting them down all the time. i hurt and I am stricken with guilt and feel like I will never be able to do enough for them in the world so they don't have to suffer like I did. I don't want them to forget their worth. I don't want them to feel like i do. They are better than me and I don't ever want them to feel like are inadequate. This line makes me feel like I am doing it right. I am doing something good and better for them. But it hurts to feel that way too. Thank you for the beautiful song. the line probably in not meant to convey this message, but that is the beauty of art. I can interpret it how I want to, for the good or the bad. Art is subjective.

When I called on my nursemaid
    Come sit by my side
But she cuts through my ribcage
And pushes the pills deep in my eyes
    The taste was much sweeter
    Than chlorine and wine
    And my doctor’s unable
To cut through cable that leads to my mind
    In spite of the winter
    There’s ways to keep warm
    Whatever you give me
Please know that I’ll ask you for more
    The day I stopped swimming
And came out of the tide
I’d never felt so uncomfortably dumb
    Here by your side
    Black rose on the bed
    Turn me to fire
    Black rose in the vein
    Shine in your eye
    Please
    Don’t lay me down
Under the rocks where I found
    My place in the ground
A home for the fathers and sons

Seeing you guys back strong and smiling and producing such amazing music again makes me so happy, and I'm sure I can say that on behalf of all Baroness fans!
P.S. saw you guys at Leeds Festival and it was performance of the day, just incredible.

I don't keep up with rock or metal at all, I'm a hip hop head but I just barely found this band and they really caught my attention. Such genius melodies, and the vocals are always on point

You're in for a treat. Baroness is an outstanding band, and I went to high school with one of the founding members. We were even on the same wrestling team. It's so cool to see them touring internationally now.

Man, I just discovered you guys about a month ago after hearing 'Shock Me' on XM, so I figured I'd check you guys out, after hearing all the Mastodon comparisons. I went and bought Purple that next day and within that month, it has literally become one of my favorite albums (and I have a lot of favorite albums.) It has such an uplifting essence to it. This song, in particular, is one of the most inpsirational songs I've ever heard. It's one of those albums that you can put on and actually get lost in, and for me, it's one of those that tell you that no matter what's goin on, it's good to be alive and breathing. A life-affirming album. So stoked to see ya in Columbus next week!

When I called on my nursemaid
    Come sit by my side
But she cuts through my rib cage
Pushes the pills deep in my eyes
    ...
    The taste was much sweeter
    Than chlorine and wine
    And my doctor is unable
To cut through the cable that leads to my mind
    ...
    In spite of the winter
    There's ways to keep warm
    Whatever you give me
Please know that I'm asking for more
    ...
    The day I stopped swiming
    Came out of the dark
I've never felt so uncomfortably numb
    Here by your side
    ...
    Black birds on the bed
    Turning to fire
    Black birds in the day
    Shining a ray
    ...
    Please, don't let me go
Under the rock where I found
    My place in the crowd
Hope for the fathers and sons
    ...
    Black birds on the bed
    Turning to fire
    Black birds in the day
    Shining a ray
    ...
    Please, don't let me go

My friends and I were just asking is there still great heartfelt music out there, poof here it is. Great to see people making music because they feel they have to, not to "chart"or as some cash grab. You think DIo was like "and then I will sing about a temple of the king, you know cause that's what the kids want" ...no. Make music because it leads you to make that particular music. Yes, it will change as you change, and yes some people will not like it. F**k em, good music from the heart will always stand on it's own. Baroness seems to get that.
