Saw your post on the LF forum. I go back to photojournalism, too, but small-time. After a financially obligatory leave from my photographic career, I returned non-professionally about 5 years ago to my beloved B&W film work, primarily natural light, mainly portraits.
I can't put two pieces of wood together without making a mistake, so I can't say much about your room construction. The ventilation/ducting plan was a bit hard for me to follow, but probably not for those who understand such things. I was a little surprised that you didn't locate the out-take vent where it would more directly pull chem fumes away from you, but your darkroom experience trumps mine; I have designed as many as you but never built more than counters/tables, and never had the circumstances to deal with this aspect.
I think these four videos are a good start. I found the first, with your face on Zone III, a bit disturbing as an intro. The explanations of the light switching layout were valuable, but perhaps a bit rapid for someone first getting started. When we're intimately familiar with a subject or practice, it's easy to forget that challenges newcomers may have in understanding all the details and whys of the multiple processes we have come to take for granted. Looking forward to future episodes. Congratulations on your illustrious career and on being asked to provide new prints.

I thought I commented yesterday but I dont see what I said. So: thanks for the comment. that is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I actually re-did the dark video but my words didn't come together as well. My goal is to provide information for aspiring photographers. Once I get the room up and running I plan on doing more 'How To ' videos. Truth be told, after all these years, I have to look back at my darkroom notes and re-remember stuff! Merry Christmas!!

@@asa1000photography Re: looking back at notes, don't I know it -- except that my return, non-professionally, to my cameras and darkroom after 13 years was tougher. I returned to a favorite film, HP5, and paper, but changed to a field camera, and different developer and additional processes to suit my new direction (out of the studio and back to (mainly) natural light for location portraits. And, I had only time on interspersed weekends to re-establish my moorings. Instead of a few months, it took me several years, including sorting out variables throwing test results off, and stupid mistakes I can't believe I made. Then Covid hit... You'll surely beat that dismal record!

Now it's been almost two years, and it's working out well. Thanks!
