All, just to clarify. My statistics for rape and sexual assault might be a little off. There are so many different websites with different data out there that it’s hard to quantify it properly. I was just trying to highlight that it is definitely a real issue on college campuses and worldwide. Thank you all for watching.
I honestly wouldn't have but any statistics, just because there is no way to really portray the issue with statistics, with how many people that have been that are too afraid to come out about it, those that were too drunk to even remember being taken advantage of. It is a huge issue definitely but statistics don't really change people minds if they don't think it is a problem
I understand that also rape and sexual assault is relevant as it first began with Brock Turner Harvey Weinstein Brett Ratner Larry Nassar and it’s intertwined with the MeToo movement and I agree with Lee on that because on that we agree I’d like to think that there would be people who are willing to swear on their lives that they only believe the statistics when it is correct

Drumdums I think sharing the statistics is important, it helps us as human beings be aware of the issue and how to prevent it. I’m a sexual assault survivor, and I wish the information was out there when I was growing up, like it is now. I also think at times, the media doesn’t handle the topic of rape well. If you are going to make rape a part of main character(especially if it’s recent), then you have to add the ptsd, the behaviour changes. When you said the male characters either assholes or forgettable, if they add the ptsd, it would make sense why the main character thinks this way, and why the exchanges are one note. Plus for this movie, I think the ptsd, would add a layer of intensity and make it more terrifying, especially with the killer.
I would say the 1/5 stat falls more in the spectrum of strong physical/verbal assault, eg: vulgar catcalling and inappropriate touching/kissing without consent.

Like it's very dumb to make a Second Remake like enough is enough with Hollywood doing this stupid second Remake stuff, they did it with Day of the Dead getting 2 crappy Remakes in 2008 & 2018 and they both suck, like here with Black Christmas (2019) this film is definitely the Worst Horror/ Remake film of 2019 and I agree with you refusing to see this terrible waste of time Horror Remake film and yeah it totally lazy with them slapping the Black Christmas name on it to make a Cash Grab Remake that has nothing good about it but just a Useless Second Remake which is Dumb and Pointless, and I'm Assuming that Hollywood going to do this trend with other Film's which is Ashamed.

I still think the whole major feminist angle they went for would have fit much better in Slumber Party. And the original isnt as well known so if they got that creative it wouldnt have pissed people off so much.
There's much better ways of doing this kind of thing...Halloween 2018 had three women best Michael Myers through skill and determination...it didn't need to step on a soapbox and announce that "And therefore you see that evil sexist men will fall before womankind" or some crap like that. Silence of the Lambs was deliberately feminist, and is a much-loved film. The art of subtlety seems to have been lost.

Corn Pone Flicks exactly, Halloween 2018 was what came to mind of a good example of a movie about female characters refusing to be victims of the killer and fighting back against him. I also think that it did a good job with showing the PTSD that Laurie experienced because of what Michael Myers put her through. The only thing I didn’t like is them retconning the fact that Michael Myers and Laurie Strode were brother and sister while doing it in a ham fisted way. But other than that I think that Halloween 2018 is a really good movie, it also had an R rating so they didn’t tone down the killing that Michael did so that was a plus.

@Russell Hunter It's an okay movie, kind of a guilty pleasure, especially if you're a gore hound. You gotta give them credit for at least trying to honor the original while bringing some new things to the table. The 2019 remake looks so bad I may not bother to watch it for free.

The whole thing about the frat boys being bad guys got negated by the fact that they were all possessed by the sexist spirit.
Bright Burn yeah, that kind of ruins the message by taking away the agency of this frat house by saying that this evil sexist and probably racist spirit possessed all of them. If they took that supernatural message out of there we would still have a ham fisted message, but the message would at least make sense by saying that it was the toxic environment of the frat house that encouraged them to do it instead of having an evil spirit be some sort of puppet master.

Sinister Cinema Reviews from what I heard this movie was bad. I remember that Brad (the Cinema Snob) calling this movie a Pureflix movie for the left which shows how bad that movie is since he hates Pureflix movies.
the only successful remakes I consider my personal favorites are John Carpenter’s The Thing(1982) David Cronenberg’s The Fly(1986) The Ring and The Grudge

I’d second Dawn of the Dead remake. That movie is just so fun. And while not nearly as good as the other horror remakes mentioned in this thread, I’d give credit to the Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes, especially TCM.

This movie looks like such garbage. It is using a classic horror title to tell a story that is completely different than the original.
The original Black Christmas had some strong feminist themes too, with Jess being pregnant and wanting an abortion, but it never beat you over the head with it like this new movie seems to be doing.
Maybe I’ll watch this if I can find a blu-ray for cheap when it is released. I’m definitely not seeing it at the theatre.

The director was upfront with it's agenda and honestly it disappointed me immensely, they could've done something good with those subjects I mean Revenge did it pretty well and it's one of my favorite films I saw in a long time.

I saw this a few days early at a screening and I can commend them for going for the narrative themes they went for it’s a ballsy relevant story that should be told but I’ve never heard an audience groan so loud when the “stuff” was revealed. The movie was already bad but how that ending got approved I have no idea. It’s embarrassing.

One of the ONLY good things about this movie was how the stereotypical "angry feminist" of the group was surprisingly multifaceted. She fought for what she believed in, but genuinely cared for her friends, and got along well with her friend's boyfriend, and during the escape was the voice of reason.

After this massive disaster Blumhouse better make dame sure Halloween Kills is something special! Keep in mind that the 1 in 5 number is an exaggeration and that the actual number is around 1 in 50. Mind you, even that is way too many but their criteria considered stuff like unwanted kisses and hugs as rape so of course the number got super inflated.
As for the film itself? What baffles me about this remake is that the director wanted to make it as a way to open up the horror genre for women and making it more friendly to them. Let's just ignore decades and decades of strong female characters in horror films, the final girl trope and the many horror films that dealt with issues that affect women more than men in a far more interesting and subtle manner. See The Babadook, Antichrist, It Follows, Revenge, Proxy, Contracted and many, many others.
The whole woke culture is shallow and superficial. That's why the write characters like this.

I don't plan on seeing this Movie just saying cause of the Political / Agenda Over-tone of the Trailer , there are good way to have a Political message in the movie but it's seems like it is a forced Girl power thing . It just turned me off , my best example is Laurie Strode in Halloween or even Ellen Ripley in Alien are one my favorite Horror movies with female characters that do not feel forced . You and I have the same opinion on this. I was really disappointed. I bought the remake before I went into seeing the new one and thank goodness I did. After I did my review on the new one I popped the 06 one in and had a blast with it. Also they shouldn't have even went with the Black Christmas title for the new one. "The Cult of Sorrority Row" or "Sorrority Row: Girly Power" would have been more plausible. Lol

The original "Black Christmas" was and still is very unsettling & bone chilling. The atmosphere, the lack of authoritative figures, the mystery and the ending are what makes that movie one of my favorites. With all due respect to those who took part in this new version, I WILL NOT be watching this newer version 💯🤷🏾
I have no desire to watch this reboot. Don't get me wrong, the film has a right to exist, like all films. The problem I have is the in your face politics in modern films.

It genuinely upsets me to see such a trendsetting horror film be turned into cliche garbage. The original had a strong female character that could only run and hide and you wanted to see her survive. Actually, most of the sorority sisters had distinct and memorable personalities. In the reboot, we have "strong female characters" that we couldn't care less about facing up against a stereotypical slasher baddie when the original killer didn't even wear a mask. I'm officially scared for the Scream reboot/remake(or Screamake, if you will)

After the failure of Black Xmas, Bob Clark announced that he was gonna do a sequel 2 the original film but unfortunately he & his younger we're both killed in car accident by a drunk driver in April of 2007.

I unfortunately saw this movie the other day and I wasnt expecting much but wow was it BAD what a shame, it had absolutely zero scares and the trailer gave away everything. I got dragged into seeing Black Christmas(Remake in Name Only) I wanted to sleep and snore through the movie I mentally checked out I felt like I got stabbed in the back to me personally I feel compelled to buy the BluRay of Black Christmas(1974) and made it my wish list that the 2006 remake deserves a much better BluRay release as it is currently on HD-DVD
All this does is make me appreciate the original 1974 Black Christmas all the more and I would encourage everyone to go out and buy it on Blu Ray or DVD or even just watch it for free on RUclips. It's really smart in what it's trying to say and feels like a well thought out film that's made to make its audiences feel unnerved and think.
The same cannot be said for its 2019 remake. Which Instead, resorted to ignorance, mistrust, and bigotry to get it's point across.

Blumhouse should've just did what worked for Halloween 2018 and just make a direct sequel to the original Black Christmas. Bring back cast members who survived the end of that film and have it set in the same sorority house where Billy returns 45 years later. Sure he'd be an old man now but if they can have a 60 something Michael Myers running around wreaking mayhem then the same can be said for Billy.

That people say that this is a "woke" movie. Now, the definition of that word is to be aware AND alert to social injustice. The problem with that is that being alert to a problem, especially one that affects several people can lead someone to becoming arrogant, ignorant, obsessive, mistrusting, and paranoid.
I know this from experience and Black Christmas 2019 pushes these terrible morals by believing that it cares about women.
I didnt get a chance to watch it yet. Decided to watch Jumanji 3 instead. Ill have to check out Black Christmas hopefully this weekend.

Black Christmas(Remake in Name Only) almost made me fall asleep in the movie theatre I wanted to snore through the entire movie and unfortunately Black Christmas(Remake in Name Only) ended up making me suffer from a cold case of buyer’s remorse
I predicted this movie would bomb after seeing the RUclips trailer because it gave away so much that makes you want to say why bother paying to see it when the trailer gave away so much.

Agree with everything, 100%. Everything about the movie. And also everything surrounding real life issues. My daughter is only 4 just now, but I am dreading when she's old enough to go out on her own!

As many have pointed out before me... I don't require forced strong females in my horror movies. We already have 100s of great females in horror. I could make a list but it would take longer than this 'movie' is worth.

I used to not really like the 2006 remake, but I appreciate it much more after hearing about this train wreck.
I got nothing against feminism, but good lord they’re really trying to throw it in your face with this movie. I don’t really get why either, the original was already quite feminist for its time (abortion subplot was very taboo in the 1970’s; plus the bad relationship between Peter/Jessie)
Honestly tho, I could forgive the stupid plot if they had some entertaining kills/effects, but this one did not.
